I bought the orange g-10 ESEE4 years ago & I stripped the coating on the blade too.

RAT/ESEE 3s have been my most consistent carries for many years now. Love the 4 & 6 also but most often have one of the 3s on me.

Same! I really like the 4 as well (although I know it isn't as popular) and the 6 is an essential outdoors blade for me. Thanks for sounding off man...

The 4 was the only Esee I didn’t like it was too heavy for its size . If they made it in the same stock thickness as the 3 it would be perfect IMO .I also have the Gibson axe and absolutely love it but it does have some limitations .

I know what you mean about the 4. I really liked it but couldn't figure out a good use for it so I ended up selling it years ago. Now, I'm thinking it's perfect for an urban "get home" bag. I loved the feel of it, I just couldn't figure out what it was good for. haha. I am interested in picking up that ax in the near future too... Appreciate you tuning in! (new vid every Sunday)

I got this but it’s too big for edc. The izula2 is the better edc but I have both and love both and would wield both for edc no questions asked.

I will never understand why people strip off the best coating on market
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Because it starts to come off after a lot of use (I've had this knife for a long time) AND this lil guy is mainly used for food prep so I like less drag... but still a better coating than beckers I'll admit. Either way the coating rubbed off years ago so I just cleaned it up. So now you understand. Never say never. haha! Thanks for tuning in!

Because it's too rough it causes drag when slicing.

What about for bushcraft?
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Great Question! That's what this lil guy was designed for but the finger choil is a little small for a comfortable grip while carving or feather sticking. Plus the flat grind isn't ideal for bushcraft. You'd want something with a saber grind for that sort of thing. I would look at the brothers of bushcraft knife (4 inch I think) or something from the mora line (much cheaper). Thanks for tuning in brother!

I work on a farm. And I am torn between the essee 3 or 4. It’ll be my work horse. Anything from cutting bailing wire to prying and etc it’ll be a work horse and I can’t decide between the two as to what will for best bc it’ll have to sit on my hip(on my belt or clipped on my pants) and not be bothering me as I climb on equipment. Along with possibly being my firearm companion.

I grew up on a farm, so I would say you need a folder of some kind. I know that anything on my hip was bumped all day. Also something with partial serrations (I was mostly cutting twine). I wouldn't go with a fixed blade for the farm. Now as far as your camp/hiking knife, THEN I'd say the Esee 4 with extended scales from the knife connection (And a custom sheath from me? 😂) Thanks Elias! 🍻

@@5MinuteKnives I agree a good folder is a good choice which I normally carry. But I have found myself gravitating towards a fix blade. I have been carrying my Crkt minimalist and like it. But I find it very small for some tasks. It’s amazing for cutting twine. But I’m trying to find a the right knife to fit a quite specific niche. And I have found the two I like the esse 3 or 4. Bc a folder I find is hard to do certain things (I also carry occasionally a kershaw lucha and the blade size is perfect) like sharping the end of post to be pounded in for fense. Cutting larger cage thing like hydraulic hoses. And lord Forbid defending myself bc coyotes are horrible on my family farm. And using the knife also for bending barb wire to gain tension back. And I thing a fix blade will fit the niche for me but I can’t decide between the esse 3 or 4 bc of the sizes.

Makes sense, then def go for the esee4 with the extended handles scales form theknifeconnection.com (then maybe a sheath from me 😉) Hope that helped!

Do you know if removing the coating voids the warranty
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jarrett! I'm not totally sure, but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Esee offers a "no questions asked warranty" and the coating comes of fairly easily with a lot of heavy use over time anyway.

I noticed that you removed the coating. Does the knife rust at all? If so how do you deal with it?
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 10 ай бұрын
It definitely can rust but I generally clean my knife often enough where it isn't an issue, but then again I live in a dry climate. I would just keep a light coat of oil on her if you live in a humid place.

Just force a vinegar patina & you won't have to worry about premature rusting.
