I've been considering the ESEE 5 as an indestructible urban survival blade (already own some Izulas, Izula II, ESEE 3,4,6 and a Laserstrike) and after seeing that the only way to kill a 5 is hammering against a well drilling pipe until exhaustion, I think this blade should easily survive anything encountered during real world knife use.

@wesleysnider2915
@wesleysnider2915 Жыл бұрын
@@impermanenthuman8427 They just run it ultra soft, so the thoughness is very high. But on the other side, they stay not sharp very long. The sharp edge rolls fast, chipping is no problem on the other side because of it. So for hard work like batoning, chopping and such stuff, they are awesome. But for carving and such stuff they are not the best choice.

@@bufonidae get two knives, a bigger one for chopping and such stuff and a smaller one for carving. Or a axe and a knive for carving is what I prefer. If you want a survival knife that does everything ok, I would buy a custom in a steel like cpm4v, vanadis 4e or cruwear at arround 63 hrc. Zlk knives is a nice person to order custom stuff.

Sorry for the mass comment flood, but have you thought of testing Cudeman brand knives? I have an MT-5 that I'd love to see put through your testing process but I am too scared to destroy mine. It has some sentimental value. It's seen me through some hunting and self-imposed 'survival' scenarios so it would be good to see how tough the Cudeman N695 Bohler or (in other knives) their MOVA 58 fairs being destroyed.

I modified mine. Thinned out the grind and reduced the edge angle to make it close to a knife you can work with. The screws on the handle also loosen up with mine while batoning. Almost lost 1. I put loctite so that shouldn't happen again This knife is a prybar an as it comes i don't think it should break while batoning or prying....but the shock! Steel on steel...that can be a killer. TBH i did not see that coming. I know it is softer than others because it should take it... Did you go ahead with the warranty? ESEE shoud replace it! I hope you do and let us know how it works out!

@@baine5.7 I hear ya. I tend to buy from specialist knife dealers in my home country. I've seen the fakes, counterfeits, and knock-offs online and it's a minefield of junk knives with a few good deals in between. I have a knife shop about half an hour's drive from home and they have an online store. So if I know what I want, I just order it to be delivered. Saves on fuel etc even with the freight cost. I try not to go into the store because they have some one-off Benchmades in there that run around 1600 to 2000 dollars and I fear I may make a deal I can't afford just because they put a bright, shiny object in front of me LOLZ!

JOE, it seems to me that you gave ESEE 5 lighter treatment than others...no antlers, stone block, ski edges, and not so much jumping on it and trying to bent it as with others...Any chance you'd be a little biased towards it? :) I love your videos and they are so funny and useful and I think it would be a big upgrade if you followed more standardised procedures of the knives' torture so that they really get the same treatment and the results are more objective. Maybe the same number of hits on the same objects? After all you do pass judgement on their quality so I believe they would deserve it:) Of course, at the same time, it is your channel and your show so whatever makes you happy is fine :) By the way, I really hope and wish you stay safe and don't hurt yourself too much doing these absolutely most extreme knives tests! Thanks, stay healthy and enjoy ;)

@@joex Yeah, the claim is, no matter what you do to it, we will replace it. But they are not happy when people start throwing them. They will break also when doing that. The heat treat of the steel is not suited to that. A BK2 also broke due to throwing.. And from what I read, the handle on ESEE is not under the warranty. Some guy broke his handle. He didn't get that replaced. It may be changed now. Not sure about that.

@@joex Well, you may point them to these video's. If they did well, then this is advertisement for them. The fact that they broke doesn't mean they failed. The glock broke also. But it's mighty tough for me. Same with this ESEE-5.
