Went to visit Esko today because I needed some lumber for a frame in the trailer to haul materials. It cost about $2000 to build the mill. Most welded material was scrap metal salvage. It has a 20 foot cut capacity with another 4 foot by adding the extension. The wheels with axle come off to keep operating height at a lower level. It uses a 13 HP motor which could use more power for cutting large hardwoods.

Esko is not just your average old man. He has had some very special mechanical training, possibly a machinist. This saw puts everything else I've seen to shame. Well done and thanks for posting this.

I like the way you have the back posts set up. That is a very good idea. I have never seen that before. Your clamping system is great also. The companies that build mills should hire you to design their mills. Fantastic job.

This is the best DIY (or BIY, Build It Yourself) saw mill I ever saw on KZfaq. Its not only well made but he has incorporated safety features too. The main chassis I see, one can use old trucks chassis rails for that, and I would use as much scrap steel for the rest. Thumbs up #596.

Nice mill, great set up ,,, damn nice logs ,little taper and straight . Well done old man. Love the safty idea on the log stops, that will save a few blades, also love the idea of not pushing from the sawdust side. And wood on the wheel guards

Your post is old so your probably thinking what the heck and so think the very best sawmill to date, even Cook has too much on his mill and overloaded with remote this and remote that. This mill can be remade and if I have anything to say about it, I will share this video far and wide. It made me a little nervous when he tightened up the blade, I just wasn't there but I have broke blades back in the day when I first started sawing on one. That was a shake saw that I started on but the very same concept. He put them all to shame and with a quickness. He is my age probably (72) and getting around better than me. His log ramp is flat ingenious plus his log dogs are so simple you wonder why they are not all like that. He is to my word, a master of this trade

I've never seen anything from your channel before now. As an American Finn in the South Puget Sound region, as soon as I saw the name "Esko" in the title of this video (uploaded 7 years prior to my viewing/ comment in early December 2022), I thought, "that certainly looks like a good Finnish name;" confirmed by seeing the Suomi 🇫🇮 flag sticker on his sawmill 💙👍😀. It would be interesting to know whereabouts in Canada either you or he may be? My own Finnish-American family on my äiti's (mom's) side has had several connections to our neighbor to the North over the years - my great-grandfather who prospected up in the Yukon and staked the first claim on Bear Creek during the Klondike Rush, and met and married my great-grandmother-to-be in Dawson; my grandmother who was born at their cabin at the claim on Bear Creek and later came rafting down the Klondike as a young girl in the early 1900s (along with her parents and the rest of her siblings born later in the YT and/or Alaska) to ultimately settle in their farmstead in Southwest Washington; my namesake grandfather who rode herd for a time as a cowboy in Alberta as a young man, and extended relatives who supposedly still live in or around Nanaimo. Not surprisingly, several of my relatives also worked directly in the woods, or in other roles for major Forest products companies in the PNW (WA State). Lastly, I got to personally see a good portion of Canada from practically one Coast to the other through various invitational/international School band competitions we participated in there, during my Junior High and High School years, so I've had an appreciation of your country for decades. Apologies for being long-winded and rather tangential, but it was interesting to see this video pop up in my feed today, and for whatever reason, I felt the need to comment. In the event that Esko is still doing his thing, please tell him "Kiitos paljon!"

Päivää Matti ! I'm Janne from North Bay, Ontario. Esko is 80 now and lives slightly east from here. Not as many Finns in my area as there are in Sudbury, the Sault and Thunder Bay. My father decided to come to Canada when I was 5 back in 1970. You have quite some history in western Canada. thanks for the family history. I could only imagine what it was like over 100 years ago.

I had an old cantilevered wood miser , only had 8.5hp B&S motor . Electric feed on anything up to a 16 inch face you could run it full speed , daily down the speed as the log got bigger than that . To watch it , it seemed to shake all over the place, but sizes were always very good ( The four post design just seems to be more stable ) how did it run with the tire wheels ?
