Chelsea needs one left wing, one striker, one defender

The jury is still out on Darwin Nunez at Liverpool after 2 seasons where he’s blown hot and cold and has been hit or miss particularly in front of goal and he’s continued to divide opinion. On paper he’s had a very good season, but when it matters the most he has crumbled and has missed so many easy chances that’ve costed them points which has led to them missing out on the premier league title after spending majority of the season in 1st place. It’s concerning that a 75 million striker in crucial games isn’t clinical enough and that’s been an issue for him and there’s literally a KZfaq compilation on the chances that hes missed and until he adds a ruthlessness about his game when it comes to the goals, he’ll never be classified as an elite striker. He’s not a terrible player, I think he brings a lot to the table going forward, but there’s a feeling that he’s not good enough to be Liverpool’s starting striker especially on a team that wants to win the premier league and compete for multiple trophies in a season. They have no choice but to rely on him even though at times he’s a problem for the team. Other than Mohamed Salah, who’s consistently scoring the goals for Liverpool and he’s not been at his best of late even though he got a goal and an assist against Tottenham after his team was out of the title race, Diogo Jota is one of the best finishers in the Premier League and his scoring ability is lethal, but in a season you can’t fully rely on him because he’s always injured, Cody Gakpo is also hit or miss and he’s still not guaranteed a regular starting spot in the team, Luis Diaz is full of energy and running and his dribbling is fantastic, we’ve known this about him for a while, but he needs to improve his finishing because he’s an exciting player to watch. Under the new manager Arne Slot, they have a good squad that he’ll try to get them to the next level and make that final push for the premier league title, I think what Liverpool are gonna do is give Nunez a season or 2 and if he continues to misfire and Jota keeps struggling with injuries, then they have to make a decision and they might even sign a new striker who can actually score goals in big games and stay fit throughout the season in all competitions.

It depends on if they can have better luck injury wise.

Well, if Chelsea buy a good centre forward in the summer and get the six players, who will be definite starters back from injury. Reese James, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Enzo, who’s been playing with a hernia for five months and Christopher Nkunku. There’s also Lavia who only played 32 minutes all season.

Since the midway point of the fixtures so far this season Chelsea have been forming enough consistency to be 4th in the table. I would hope next season they continue to improve enough to get at least a CL spot next season.

At best when everyone is healthy and they have a proper striker, Chelsea are a European team. Them competing for the premier league title they’re years away from that as they’re not at that stage of doing that. Top 4 getting back in the champions league is exactly what they’ll be striving for next season especially they get European football. That’s seen as an improvement for them because they finished 12th last season and that’s been the minimum for them. I’ve brought this up many times with this being a long term project building on the results in the present day and being patient when it comes to recruiting and the managerial role is what’s gonna make them an elite club again. The reason why I say that they can eventually get back in the top 4 is because obviously strengthen the squad even more by signing players that’ll elevate the team rely on core players and hopefully the players can stay healthy because injuries has been their biggest Achilles in the last 2 seasons. This depends on who the manager is because is Mauricio Pochettino the right manager for the short or long term. They’re not consistent enough because of the injuries and unpredictability of results as well, Chelsea’s squad is very young and they’re trying to get back on the right track even if it’ll be inconsistent.

It's a general rule of thumb in the prem that a team that does good in the end of the season (like, at least last 10 games), also does great the season after. I think they'll compete for top 5, maybe 4 if everything goes right. I don't see man u staying up there, and same with villa.

Stats can be used as an indicator what a player can do, but they don’t tell the full story unless you watch the games because sometimes numbers are misleading. Because Jackson has scored 13 PL goals without taking a penalty that means he’s better than Salah and Havertz, same with Havertz over Palmer. It’s true that Nicolas Jackson isn’t a flop because he’s had a good season from a statistical perspective with 16 goals and 5 assists in all competitions and at times he looks good and he does things very well but he misses so many chances. In the premier league he has 13 goals, 4 of them came against Tottenham including one of the worst hat tricks I’ve ever seen. People that look at numbers without watching the games would praise a guy for scoring a hat trick against a team with 9 men. I will make two blatantly obvious points. The first is that the racism of the media is amazing. Last Chelsea game, Palmer missed an open goal with no player or goalie in sight and this game Gallagher missed an open goal with no player or goalie in sight with the and not one negative word was said about them by the commentators. But when a black player has a goal attempt saved by a goalie or makes even a difficult attempt at goal from the edge of the box, the commentators talk about how they should have scored or should have done better, driving fans into negative hysteria against the black players across social media and mocking videos. It's disgusting. When a white player is one on one with the goalie the goalie makes a save, they say the goalie made a great save, as they did with Palmer in that same game against Tottenham, but if it's a black player they say he should have scored and magnify it, digging at him as a failure and then the pundits too go on about it. As for this game, I've been saying since the beginning of the season that Madueke should be playing on the wing as he is obviously an all round better winger than Palmer because he is good not just offensively, but defensively while Palmer cannot not be bothered to do defensive responsibilities. resulting in over 10 goals against Chelsea in 4 or 5 games. With Palmer away from the wings and Madueke there instead in the last two games, Chelsea have produced 2 clean sheets. What we have also seen is that Caicedo looks a better player when Gallagher is next to him doing his part defensively and martialing Mudryk to not forget his defensive responsibilities, and we see a wall of resistance suddenly appearing in front of the Chelsea back line while the backs also get support with no Palmer on the wing as a defensive liability. What is concerning is that these decisions have been forced on Pochettino by injuries and so when the players are not injured he will return to the failed unpredictable system with Palmer on the wing and Madueke on the bench to run from the real question he must ask himself which is which three players midfield should he play out of Caicedo, Enzo, Gallagher and Palmer. The fact is, he has believed that in midfield if Enzo his fellow country man is fit, he must play, Gallagher and all his running too must play and Caicedo with all the defensive help he gives Enzo, Pochettino's countryman must play, so he has to find a place for Palmer and puts him on the wing where he is a defensive liability. Sure Palmer gets goals from their, but he also a defensive liability there that turns the team into an unpredictable defensive wreck making Chelsea lose and draw games they should win. In short, the Chelsea manager must decide if he wants Chelsea to be a mid table team that ensures a lot of goals from Palmer, but concedes too many because of his defensive inadequacy, or a team that is strong defensive and wins games they have been drawing and losing by ensuring Madueke is played on the right wing, not Palmer. A player knowing when and how to attack and when and how to defend and incorporate that into their is a necessary skill and quality to be an effective and good team player, it is not enough to just know to attack, but Palmer has been getting away with that all season, with other players being blamed by the media for the results of his defensive liability when things go wrong, while praising him for being there for goals he manages because he ignores defensive responsibilities as expected of an attacking player in a pub team or in teams long ago, not a professional and certainly not an attacking player in a team that wants to compete in the top 4. This is why Man City did not play him and then sold him. If when injured players return, Pochettino continues to choose Palmer goals over a winning Chelsea team without Palmer on the wings and so with Palmer possibly on the bench because he prefers to keep the defensive success of Gallagher side by side with Caicedo and so Enzo ahead of them, instead of Palmer, then so be it. That is clearly Chelsea's offensively and defensively most effective team and top 4 team and it looks very close to their pre-season team that looked so promising before all the big changes to fit Palmer in. These are decisions Pochettino has failed and struggled to make, refusing to bench his country man and in fear that putting Palmer who the media are obsessed with on the bench would have the media calling for his head, but has only now made because he has had little choice due to injuries.
