I prefer the counter clockwise method to confuse the coffee bed. Makes the flavor so much weirder.

Neat tip if you wait till your fire is just hot coals you can place your cooking pot_ tea kettle on the coals and cook, that way there is no nasty soot to be cleaned off after

Crema isn’t an indication of the quality of your extraction or the taste. It’s just foam. I can make a crema out of Folgers coffee pushed through a small hole at high pressure.

I roast my own coffee and grind just before brewing so yes, the coffee is very fresh. I’ve managed to get a very little bit of foam since then but it only lasts a few seconds, it’s not real crema. However, I still like the Aeropress.

@@alakazam482 There is a difference. Espresso crema is comes from carbon dioxide released from the grounds. In an aeropress that same CO2 is released during bloom when you pour your water into the brew chamber. The foam that this cat is making is generated by churning up the coffee under mild pressure. That’s why it looks so weak. Either way, the goal is to make coffee, not foam.

It is possible to generate only a little over 1 bar of pressure with an Aeropress. Real espresso requires 9 bar or even more. Good coffee concentrate with a bit of foam, but not real espresso with crema.

Just wanna point out, you used a paper filter so no oils and it is no where near espresso. You’re getting there is a very strong, paper filtered coffee that has good clarity but most likely rather bitter

There are a few things you can try: Method 1-Add a little water to bloom the coffee grounds, wait for 30 seconds then add the rest of your water. Insert the plunger at an angle then pull it upright, creating suction. Allow to brew then push through. Method 2. Use the aeropress upsidedown. This is called the inverted method and should be used at your own risk.

The cap it comes with will not do what he is doing here. He is using the flow control cap. The only way to not have the water start going through the coffee is to use the inverted method, or try to put the plunger in quickly, and pull out a bit to create suction.
