Comme toute voiture ancienne, sa valeur varie en fonction de son état général d'origine, mais plus encore de sa restauration. Ainsi aujourd'hui une Austin 1300 GT s'échange entre quelques centaines d'euros et 7000 Euros pour un état concours...

Comme écris sur l'essai de la mini des années 90, oui, du siècle dernier, je découvre votre chaine, alors merci pour ces essais fort bien montés et présentés. Bravo ! Mais de grâce Jérome, ne posez plus vos fesses dans une totomobile de plus de 5 ans !!! Les gens qui regardent les vidéos d'anciennes savent freiner sans ABS, conduisent tous les jours sans assistance aucune... et traversent la France dans une deuche sans souci... en fait comme nos parents qui ne sont pas tous morts d'un manque d'antipatinage. Non, restez avec vos déplaçoirs de 150cv, à minima, pour une citadine qui se tape les bouchons et plus de 250cv pour rouler à 80. Bonne route à vous et merci de ne plus regarder nos braves ancêtres qui nous ravissent encore autant que lorsque nous étions gosses mais qui, manifestement, ne sont pas fait pour vous.

This car was my first girlfriend. As an engineering student I learnt more about engineering by trying to keep her roadworthy than I did on my 4 year degree course. I now drive an AC Cobra replica that I built… thanks to everything this car taught me. I even saved the Smiths rev counter before scrapping the Austin and it now sits in the Cobra, still working after 40 years. I'm also now happily married to a proper woman.

Le monsieur présente mal l'hidtoire de cette auto. Il n'y a jamais eu 2 millons d'exemplaires d'Austin 1300GT produites pour la bonne et simple raison que la GT (comme son nom l' indique) est une version spécifique à tendance sportive et peu produite. Par contre la gamme issue du projet "ADO16" a , elle, bien rencontré le succès. Les versions 1100 ont été les plus courantes et plusieurs marques (issues de la "British Motors Corporation" ont diffusé ce modèle et ses dérivés (Austin, Morris, Wolseley, MG...) comme cela se pratiquait couramment à l'époque. Il est navrant de constater que sur bien des chaînes "spécialisées" sur l"automobile, les présentateurs n'y connaissent strictement rien et se permettent de raconter n'importe quoi!

You can change the video settings to get English subtitles but the translation is poor.

Nice video I always wanted one of these in purple with a black vinyl roof quite a trendy car in its time could we have some English subtitles please

My own car was purple! But that was the incorrect resprayed BL colour.. underneath was the correct, Black Tulip. It had black vinyl roof and red interior.

I had an mg 1300 get in 1980 as my first car after passing my driving test was a great lirrle car but the engine block blew a hole in the side of it and couldn’t find another engine for it was in red with black vinyl roof reg if I can remember was RDO683J

silly exhaust endpipe. Otherwise more or less the Mini Cooper engine.

Yes, very silly. That was not standard. My GT just has a standard pipe, but it comes out one of the rear corners of the car, not the centre.

Yes, and that's correct. We had a Wolseley (with the "half-Cooper" engine, 65 PS), whose pipe ended centrally. Seems strange to have changed it just for the GT (and for the MG two-door), but that's what they did. Fantastic cars, never sell yours (despite your moniker).

@@1258-Eckhart Wolseley and Vanden Plas just standard engine but with twin SUs. Riley, MG and GT use Cooper S head and block (with standard camshaft timing) but mostly from cheaper materials. Probably why the effort to use a larger bore exhaust with extra silencer on these models. Btw, probably difficult to find the correct exhaust for these models these days.

@@keithdawson4804 You can have an exhaust made bespokenly, there's no difficulty there. Heads and blocks were std. over all the A-Series range, the GT & MG had a higher C.R. of 9,75:1 (not 8.9 as with the Wolseley) and THAT free flow exhaust, but the same 2x 1,25" SU's as for the Wolseley. BHP was therefore 70 as compared with 65 (Wolseley), not a world of difference. The concurrent Mini Cooper S developed 73 bhp, don't know where it found the extra 3 bhp but again, not really GTi territory.

@@1258-Eckhart Of course a one-off exhaust can be made, but depends on price. Non-standard block and head. As in Cooper S, 11-stud head, double valve springs and larger inlet valves, and LCB and larger bore exhaust. Plus close-ratio gearbox from Cooper S. Cooper S made 76bhp, from different cam.
