Dr. Max, great points on all levels, especially the huge point to not lie or make up an answer to something you don't know or have not done. Far too many of us in the medical field during our training years are almost 'bullied' into never asking for help. A fatal mistake on too many levels and as I always told my students, "The truth only hurts for 2 minutes...(mostly).

Hi Dan, thanks for the nice feedback! I agree with you, it’s very easy to feel like asking for help is a no-no.

I found this video particularly insightful. Considering what path I chose as an actor, those two factors that you stressed, being motivated and well organized have been key in getting what I've achieved in the industry, meaning consistent work. I'm not an A-lister, not do I strive for that, just to do the best work possible given whatever role offered, and those two factors are right at the top. You'll get out of it what you put into it. I guess you could say that about any venture, be it vocation or avocation. Thanks, Doctor.

@@MaxFeinsteinMD When I got out of pa school I had very rough time with reading ekg’s. I would constantly call the on call cardiologist and second guess myself. After approximately 6 months working in the emergency department i was much more familiar with them and more confident. I purchased a nice Christmas gift that year for the cardiologist that I would pester the most. Take care and please stay safe and healthy.

Should I still consider becoming an anesthesiologist with a 3.8 gpa ? What are some tips going into a university ?

Mine was less than yours, I wouldn’t worry about it. 3.8 is a fantastic GPA. I made a video about becoming an anesthesiologist in which I offer some suggestions about what to study in college, hope that’s helpful.

Im in premed after furlough from job,I understand from this I have to be more organized in my studies even now especialy,I went to college in the 90s in electronic engineering before computer learning was popular.Im used toTraditional classroom lectures and books. Now both hybrid and zoom , collaborate lectures not much choice if want a reasonable schedule. Terrible badly written powerpoints.Interactive studying,Blackboard assignment submissions have to be done correctly no second chances blowing a quizz from forgotten algebra,Biology phylum changes each year. The text pubishers have to make their billions. My free spell checker goes to town on badly written powerpoints word documents from the professors. When marticulated in School the school owns the student .One missed lecture or assignment can cause a low grade which cannot be made up.In the University world you have complete freedom to do only what the professor wants on a task not to deviate at all.

i'm not a med student, but after hearing your day to day life. i almost wish i was. writing notes for 30 patients??????? Wow. Be thankful you don't suffer from inflammatory bowel disease or have peanut/wheat/nut allergy. That combination REALLY is fatiguing.

Yes sometimes as an intern I rotated on services where I had to write lots of notes and look after a lot of patients at once! Going thru med school has made me very grateful for my health. IBD sounds really tough, I remember thinking that as I learned more about it.
