Thanks! I needed this. Question: I'm having trouble getting my phone to connect to my theta z1 via bluetooth. It will connect via wifi, but not bluetooth. I do turn on the bluetooth, and my phone just won't pair with it. It tries, but then just stops trying. Is there a trick to this?

You must first connect your mobile phone to the Z1 for initial setup and registration of the camera using the official mobile app. After this, you can connect the mobile app to camera with Bluetooth without having to use Wi-Fi. The mobile app cannot show the preview in with Bluetooth, but you can take a picture with Bluetooth. I have an URGENT question, can I use another USB-c to USB cable than the one provided with the camera (way too short)? The reason is I need to do a live streaming of about an hour, while the camera is plugged to the computer anD OBS and keep the camera alive.

Yes, I use a 10' cable for live streaming which I bought on Amazon. I personally use the cable below for Z1 live streaming It works for me, but not guaranteed to work by RICOH. This is an independent site. We don't work for RICOH. amzn.to/328P6za

Is there a quick release system and plate that can stay on the bottom of the Z-1 and you can still charge it without removing the plate? My 1/4 inch is getting worn

@@josephl2546 I thought that it preserve auto. I need to test this again. There is mySetting that you can save and it will preserve the settings. The official mobile app may be changing it back to auto on wake from sleep. However, you should be able to use My Setting to set the default to manual.

I think the camera needs to be in auto for the EV settings to have an effect.

Few questions: 1) Is there an easy way to Format the theta after you take pictures? I can delete all the pictures with Image Capture, but it still has some folders I don't want - can't seem to delete them> 2) What is the bluetooth functionality for? To take screen shots? 3) I've been using the dual eye fisheye plugin which seems to take very good pictures. Just need to edit them in LIghtroom because they're always underexposed - not sure why. Do you use this?

I don't know of a technique to delete all the sub-folders of the Z1. this plug-in comes with a built-in file manager, it may work., but I have not tried it for what you're trying to achieve. pluginstore.theta360.com/plugins/com.kasper.authydra/ The BLE can be used for third-party apps. Hello, I have tried using the USB data transfer plug-in on my Z1, but it does not seem to transfer anything to my 128GB Lexar USB flash drive. I have the correct USB-C to USB-A adapter too. Is there any reason for this?

Hi, for some reason I have lens misalignment and different exposure in both lenses. live preview and recorded video looks really off. Should i return my theta to the supplier for a fix? I upgraded the firmware to the latest and the problem is still there

I think it is a firmware upgrade. You can use either the free desktop app or the free mobile app to upgrade the camera firmware.

Is it the same as the compass calibration icon that is shown in the video? Or, is it a different icon? If it's the compass recalibration, you need to move the camera in a figure 8 as shown in the video.

Thanks for this video! Question: camera connected to a phone, outdoors, timed shot 6 or 10 seconds, it seems that the camera records the gps position only of the first picture and than copy that position in all the following pictures...

You might be right. I have not tested it in that way. Are you using the official mobile app with "interval shooting"? I believe people are using it with Streetview in this way and the GPS info is sent from the phone. Could you explain your use case more? You should consider posting this question in our forum. community.theta360.guide/ I'm not an active Streetview photographer for the type of walk and automatically take shots using the interval settings. But, I think other people in the community do this.

@@LorenzoMarianeschi Thank you for the update. You may be having an unstable Wi-Fi connection between the mobile phone and Z1 which is why the GPS is not being sent to the images sometimes. @@THETA360Developers Thank you again. Another important UPDATE: the problem seems solved. There is some problems importing pictures to my Mac computer with the program "Photos". Avoiding importing photos to a Mac computer, the gps data are correct!

you'll need to check with Matterport. Their mobile app likely uses custom camera settings to optimize the pictures for their service. There is also a "MySettings" feature of the RICOH THETA official mobile app. If you have specific settings, you can install them there.

When the phone is connected to the Z1 with bluetooth, I have heard that it does record the GPS location. However, I have not tried it myself.

Are you referring to HDR or bracket shots? Using the the official mobile app on iOS, you can set the camera to take HDR or handheld HDR. You can also take bracket shots at different exposures. Multi-bracket shooting is in the mobile app from RICOH. You don't need to program anything. It's on the same screen as Normal Shooting and Interval Shooting. I see that long pressing the FN button let's you see the camera settings but can you change the settings or do you still need to do that on the app? Thanks..

you need to use the app to change the settings. You can call up pre-saved mySettings from the button that were pre-stored from the app and then you don't need to use the mobile phone. However, you can only store one set of settings in mySettings. If you change it, you need the mobile phone again. There's more flexibility with the X because it has a touchscreen.

Hi, great video :) Thx. I have a few questions please when using the THETA app on my mobile phone (Samsung S24). 1) in the camera's LED, what is the flashing icon to the left of the WIFI icon? 2) why is that when my phone connects to the camera with WIFI (Access Point Mode), as soon as it connects, the WIFI icon stops flashing, yet I can still take photos? Doesn't the WIFI icon have to be continually flashing to indicate that the phone and camera are connected? When I go to Cam Images > ALL, not all the photos I took are there, only a few. 3) And just to confirm, I can shoot using WIFI with no internet connection - correct? I don't know if you still monitor these comments, but if so, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -

The WiFi icon flashes when it is not connected to your mobile phone with WiFi. The camera and phone could theoretically be connected with Bluetooth. When the WiFi icon is solid, then the phone and camera are connected with Wifi. You can shoot with WiFi no internet connection. However, it seems from your description that the phone and camera re not connected for some of the pictures. The camera WiFi icon needs to be solid and not blinking. Also, if you download the desktop application for the Z1, you can upgrade the firmware to the newest version. You can also upgrade the firmware with the mobile app.

Thanks for your reply, appreciate the info. I bought this Theta z1 used and in the OLED, I never can see the Bluetooth symbol, only the blinking "pineapple" which indicates that the BT is connected to a Remote Control TR-1 unit. So maybe the previous owner had one of these remote control units and my camera still thinks it's connected to it. Would you know if there's a way I can disconnect this Remote Control TR-1 unit? I think it's preventing the camera from showing the Bluetooth symbol (I may be wrong about that). Thanks again...@@THETA360Developers

Hi. When I long press the MODE button this info appears in the OLED (shown in the link). Does anyone know how to fix this? are you on an iPhone or Android? You need to make sure you have the newest firmware in the camera and the newest mobile app on your phone.

i have 3 issues with my z1 1) I have to keep recalibrating the compass, 2)it keeps. shutting down during the scans, #)the audible beeping that goes on during the scan is muted. it is turned on and high volume in the app. has shut down

for the compass, is it possible that the camera goes near a magnetic field from some equipment? For shutting down, can you provide more info on what the scan involves? You may need to contact RICOH official customer support. (this is not an official RICOH account. This is a community account). There may be a problem with your camera that you need to address with service or replacement. The situation where the compass goes out of calibration regulary is also unusual, so there could be a real problem with the firmware or main board. Try to reset all your settings by pressing and holding down the power and wifi buttons simultaneously for 18 seconds. This will delete your settings, so you will need to decide if you are okay with losing your settings. Thank you for all the tips. My camera storage was full and I deleted all the images but instead of having a storage of 2500 images (number on the camera screen), I only have 480 images available. Any tips on how to get the full storage back? Thanks!

maybe the internal counter of the images is off. You may actually have space for the 2500 images. When you view the Z1 as a storage device, does it show the full capacity available?

@@chloemeynier6644 If you plug it into a Windows 10 or 11 computer (or Linux or ChromeOS), can you see it as a storage device? I don't think it will work from a Mac. Maybe a good excuse to visit a friend and check their computer? There is no API to reset the counter. The only option I know of is a long path of using developer mode to delete all the settings. Suggest you contact RICOH customer support and explain the problem. They may have a solution. BTW, this is not an official RICOH channel. This is a group of community members, so we may not have the most accurate information here.

Go to 6:20 in the video. Move the camera in a figure 8 as shown in the video. It should recalibrate the internal compass and clear the error.

So if you use a power bank with the Theta Z1, can you shoot with it while it's charging? Also, the battery last longer when plugged in to a power bank correct?

I can shoot when it is plugged into a powerbank and the battery lasts longer. We plug the camera in when we do development and it stays on for the entire day. I don't know if it is a supported usage by RICOH, but it is common to plug the camera into a battery and shoot. It will charge while you're using it.

Another tip is that if you use your laptop to charge the camera, the Wi-Fi is normally shut off when you plug a USB cable into the THETA camera and laptop. This prevents you from using the mobile app while the camera is charging from the laptop. However, you can attach a data blocker to the USB cable to allow the camera to charge from the laptop with Wi-Fi enabled. The data blocker is about $5-$7 on Amazon. I just ordered another one for myself yesterday.

quick question, the dual fisheye plugin. In order to control the settings for different shooting methods using the DFE, can that be set in the iphone APP. or is that just avail as an android paid app?

Finally, somebody explained the internal compass error message on the screen. Thanks so much! A follow up question. How can I make the wifi automatically be "on" when I power up my theta Z1? Every time I turn on the camera, I need to press the wifi button to activate it. Kind of annoying. Thanks in advance.

The Wi-Fi on/off setting should be saved in your camera. When you turn off the camera with Wi-Fi on, it should retain the setting and the Wi-Fi should be on when the camera is powered on the next time. I just tested this with my Z1. If the camera is plugged into your computer with USB, you can't turn on Wi-Fi. Can you verify that the Wi-Fi switches to off on power on even though the Wi-Fi was on when you powered off the camera? if so, that is not the expected behavior of the camera.

@@THETA360Developers I can verify that the Wi-Fi switches to "off" on power on even through the Wi-Fi was on when I powered off the camera. This behavior is the same when I put the Z1 into sleep mode (quick press of the power switch) and then wake it up (again, quick press of the power switch). Basically, I have to enable the Wi-Fi every time I turn on the camera. Any thoughts on how I might correct this issue? Thanks.

@@therealvideotour The connection between the Wi-Fi and the phone will stop on power off or sleep, but the Wi-Fi icon on the camera should still be on when you power the camera back on. The icon on the camera will be flashing when you power it back on. I'm not sure I understand the problem. @@THETA360Developers Not to beat a dead horse, but I think I figured out what is going on. When I switch my WIFI to 5GHz mode, then the WIFI does NOT automatically turn "on" with power on. But, when I make the WIFI 2.4GHz, then the WIFI DOES automatically turn "on" with power on. Seems pretty random to me, but I have tested this operation on two separate Theta Z1 cameras and they both behave that way. I usually like to use the higher frequency WIFI when I can, but I suspect the difference will not be very noticeable in my particular application. Can anybody confirm this is the proper operation, or have I found a bug? Thanks!

@@THETA360Developers Yes i did that already, does not work either. I bought the Z1 used from USA and i live in Chile in another hemisphere, could be that the problem?

@@HugoBarrientoss I don't think it should be a problem in Chile. Try searching on google or equivalent normal Android phone internal compass reset. The Z1 runs Android OS internally. Try watching the motions for a normal Android phone on KZfaq and try different techniques with the Z1.

Many times this camera has been underestimated, with this video I've just learn a lot. But the valuable point is: Read the manual.!! With this tips one can simply get rid of many "malfunctions " ppl said this camera has. Thank you..!! [EDIT. 10.06.22]: Id like to have a more clear idea on how to use the camera with an iPhone. Bc my z1, does not run on that phone.

Use the desktop app to upgrade the firmware of the Z1 and make sure the mobile app on the iPhone is upgraded to the newest version. The Z1 should work with the iOS mobile app

in the mobile app, there is a setting for shutter volume. If you set it once, it will stay silent for subsequent pictures even when you are not connected to your mobile phone

it syncs with the mobile app and is set automatically. Try connecting the camera to your mobile phone.

@@laurencegrant2882 I'm not sure if the Matterport app sets the time for the Z1, but if it doesn't (and it sounds like it may not), you just need to connect to the Z1 one time using the free RICOH THETA app and maybe take one picture from your mobile phone. The camera will grab the time from your mobile phone. It is only a one-time setup. After that, you don't need to use the official RICOH THETA mobile app. Just to clarify, there is no button to "set time". The app will do it automatically. Or, it should.

@@THETA360Developers Thanks for info. I did connect Z1 to Theta app and took a shot. When I plugged camera into Image Capture on my mac I still got shot with 1 Jan 2019 at 00:00:06. I took another shot and it came into the Capture screen but date still wrong :(

@Laurence Grant If you just bought the camera, can you try going to the web site for the theta360.com and contacting the official customer support? If you have trouble reaching them due to your work schedule, a quick thing to test is to press and hold the power button of the Z1 down for 12 seconds, then start up the camera again, then connect it to the your mobile phone. It's difficult to isolate the problem on KZfaq comments. sorry.

@@THETA360Developers Thanks for the reply. It turns out it charges perfectly in a wall socket with a different plug and usb-C cable. I guess now I need to figure out whether the issue was the usb-c cable, the usb-plug adapter, or the power extension cord at fault. Fun times, but anyway, I jumped the gun - most importantly - my Theta Z1 is working just fine!

@@declanmurphy1006 For the Z1, the charger should deliver 1.5A. If it is below 0.5A, it may not charge. The cables matter. You don't need an expensive cable, but just make sure it supports USB-C charging. Most cables you buy now days have the USB-C charging, but an old cable may not. If you're using an old mobile phone charger, it may not have enough power. Thanks for letting us know the solution.
