If you want to get the shine back in the plastic, spray some tire shine on and let it soak for an hour up to a day, depending on how bad it is.

better to just use a torch and run it over the plastic for a sc, much faster and cheaper

WD 40 on the plastics Brings them back to almost new appearance. A local body shop tech gave me that one. It works great.

My 03 had the 16 tooth front sprocket when I bought in 2016 . I immediately shitcanned it. Put the stock one on. Its for on and OFF road.

Braided brake lines go a long way towards making the stock brakes better. Fork springs and a rear shock are mandatory mods to go along with the fork brace. Open air box and exhaust are worth a little extra noise. I had to replace my clutch at 20k miles because of off-roading with a 16T front sprocket. Your clutch wont last much longer.

I agree the braided brake lines make a difference, ive installed them since this video. Fork springs and rear shock on not mandatory if you are not carrying any extra weight. I've got 30k miles on the stock suspension. Only thing I've done is fork seals. Could it be better, yes, mandatory, nah. But you are carrying any extra weight, yeah, the upgraded suspension is a must. The stock exhaust is nice and quite. Just the way I like it. I wish there was a light weight exhaust that was near stock noise level. Most I've seen and heard are too damn loud.

I have a Honda XL 250 and soon I hope to acquire one of those KLR650 or failing that I would go for the XRL650L. The enduro is the true dual purpose

Hi, im thinking of getting a 1990 model, does that year need the doohickey doing ? thanks
@RedEyedJack
@RedEyedJack 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the early two peice doohickey. Plan on changing it and the spring. I recommend the torsion spring. There is a great video from big rock moto featuring Eagle Mike. Just search "Eagle Mike Everything you need to know about the doohickey".

@@RedEyedJack thanks for the reply, i was chatting to the man selling the bike and turns out it is a 1992 bike, that one also needs changed or not? cheers
@RedEyedJack
@RedEyedJack 2 жыл бұрын
@@vajracitta6408 really, any year KLR can benefit from changing it. Whether its the Doo itself or the spring, or both, even the new Gen 3s have the weak spring.

"it doesn't give you the protection from mud as the stock fender does; but I like how it cleans up the look..." Owellian how clean=dirty; is this guy for real? Walking contradiction also rides with highway sprocket but dirt tires... lol Interesting mods but weird logic; backwards mind.

i have had 3 klr's gen 1's stop replacing the tensioner spring its the biggest KLR myth there ever was,Even Kawasaki mechanics will tell you that.
@RedEyedJack
@RedEyedJack 3 ай бұрын
If it's such a myth, why have so many broke? I'm good friends with a kawasaki tech, he had a coffee cup on his tool box with 10+ broke springs and a handful of broke doohickeys. For me, it was piece of mind. I'm a natural tinkerer, so it was a fun Saturday wrenching on the bike. And there was zero tension left in the spring for any adjustment. The torsion spring will hold up for the rest of my bikes life.

Intro is way too long, tedious. Otherwise, you're doing fine. Hand-waving has to go. Makes you look like a junior rapper. The front fender is oddly attractive. Overall, you have done well. I hope my honesty helps. 😀
