DIY workstand tip: Use something like the Iron Gym pull-up bar in a doorway to hook the saddle on, and then work on your bike while it's hanging in a doorway. I've been doing it for years.

Great video! I'm glad you brought up Park tire levers too. They were the worst in my experience. I broke a pair while mounting a difficult tire never experienced that even with cheap tire wrenches.

Dude, you are the best source of info on fixies. In fact you're converting me slowly to fixie from geared. Road bikes are just so damn expensive, along with the gear. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a Wabi Classic

As a professional mechanic I can say that in the case off all steel and some titanium frames as well as older aluminum frames you can put the bike in the stand by the top tube.

Just going to comment that for the larger allen keys (8-10mm) which can be used to tighten the cranks for external BB cranksets and some pedals, it's good to have long ones so you can get enough leverage to loosen those parts. If the allen key is too short's hard to get good leverage. For my 8 and 10 mm allen keys I have separate ones that didn't come with a set so I don't have to strain my hands too much on those parts. Some other great tools are torque wrenches (to get the specified tightness) and calipers (for measuring the diameter of things when you're looking for new parts). Not essential, but I'm sure they make working on your bike even easier. I don't even have either of these yet but I plan to buy one of each.

Yeah I have a miche pistard 2.0 (also external) and I have a huge allen key with a rubberized grip to tighten it, but it starts to get loose after I ride a lot. No creaks but it scares me.

Yo Zach man, if you wrote a manual of how to mechinic your fixed-gear/track I'd buy it. I snapped my stock Tribe Bicycle left crank arm today while on a job and fell hard as shit! Now I have to buy a bottom bracket tool, crankset, crank puller, and possibly a new bottom bracket! My day has been screwy.... >:(

One of the best dreams I ever had was to be able to skid my fixie. I honestly had the best time of my life, but then I woke up and realised my life was still a mess.
@timeslowingdown

Are you trying to learn how to skid?
@Jeesus353
@Jeesus353 5 жыл бұрын
The Lazy Logician honestly Im just trying to learn how to stop on my bike, at lower/walking speeds its no problem using my legs to slow down but if going a bit faster/at the speed of traffic I might as well be riding singlespeed bike with a front brake as it takes like a mile for me to stop using just my legs
@thinkintime1
@thinkintime1 5 жыл бұрын
@@Jeesus353 dude this is a great position to be in! Just keep riding as much as you possibly can and your body fat will slowly decrease, your legs will become stronger, and your technique will improve. It's an amazing feeling when several months later you try to stop suddenly because of a poorly timed red light or something, only to find out you just accidentally on purpose skidded for the first time! After that you feel like you just got a new bike and you have a fresh motivation because you realize if you could go from no skidding to accidentally skidding, you can go from accidentally skidding to skillful skidding. Best of luck and keep riding homie!

@@Jeesus353 you can also play with different gear ratios, handlebars, and lighter bikes, but you can't go wrong with constantly riding

Torque wrenches are essential for most alloy parts and especially carbon fiber. While anti-seize compound is necessary to prevent galling caused by oxidation. And, a carbon fiber paste is required for some connections. Lube, grease, anti-seize or paste can effect torque readings. So, unless it's specifically required by manufacturers instructions, you probably shouldn't use it all of the time for everything. Thanks.
