Nice paint jobs on both rockets. Argh, the brutal truth of staging high power! I sometimes add a few extra yards of florescent surveyor's ribbon -- under $3 a reel at a home store -- to the recovery rig of a high flying model. It is a very visible both in the sky and on the ground.

That was a heart breaker!!! Don’t give up yet though. They could still show up at some point! Glad to see the Phoenix crew growing! Can’t wait to get down there and fly with you guys! Look into the Eggtimer Mini Tx GPS. It can provide you the landing coordinates, which can then be plugged into a map on your phone. I’m enjoying mine.

Definitely doing this again. And going on another search. Just seems to be getting really far from the area🤔 Could be though. I'll look that up. Also we should've been deeper (west) in the field.

Beautiful flights! When I get mine done, I plan on adding about a 10 foot long bird-tape streamer in addition to the stock recovery. I'm hoping that lets me see it better on the way down. Stay safe in the heat!

I replaced the kit streamers with Apogee Mylar streamers with this exact same thought. Pretty sure they just did not deploy. There’s no way we could miss seeing those, even at 3000’ if they were out 🤷‍♂️ 🚀🚀

@@mobrockets Ouch, not deploying would mean closer to launch pad lawn dart crash landing. How soft is the dirt out there now?
@mobrockets
@mobrockets 10 ай бұрын
@@michaelc6817 Soft as asphalt after it’s been reduced to rubble after an explosion. 💥 I figure they tumbled down with the nose cones dangling by their shock cords. But both rockets flew waaaay east and then were most likely pushed around a bit by winds at that height. So they did not come straight down even so configured…

Man, some binoculars would be nice to have, maybe on a tripod. Man. Stay cool out there until this dome of El Nino hot air moves on. Hydrate! Bummer about losing the altimeters too. Great video though. Thanks.
@mobrockets
@mobrockets 10 ай бұрын
I actually had binos! The real issue was that I think neither rocket popped out its streamers. I had Apogee Mylar 2”x56” streamers on mine. Keith used the bright orange ones that came with the kit. 2 streamers per rocket. We saw neither set. Even at 3000’ we should have been able to see at least one set! So, they did not deploy… Not. Good!

I built my So-Long placing the second launch lug on the top stage. On my channel, I launched it with one E16-6. It flew great! I was able to recover it. I can hardly wait to do a double stage launch. The point is that launched as a single stage rocket it still goes out-of-sight.

I was hoping to see you bring them home. I might skip the altimeter in mine and add a beacon, like the old Estes sonic one and one that has a flashing LED and bring the directional microphone for a simple locator. It is a risk no matter what you do. Better luck next time.

I didn't understand why you guys weren't running in their direction immediately after launch because there was no danger at the pads, especially after seeing the eject charge at least you knew there wouldn't be a lawn dart coming down. Dang, great launches though, but I wanna know who won lol.

Great Video. Open Rocket shows an apogee of 3298ft and Rocksim shows an apogee of 3936ft. If it went to almost 4000ft, that could be why you lost it. Rocksim also shows it arcing over and being blown 2100ft from the pad at apogee. It could of came down 1/2 mile from the pad. I hope you find it at some point.

SO LONG!! Great matching ascents!! Bummer though on recovery. To minimize weather cocking, try to mount altimeter close to the CG. Any additional weight near the nose is likely going to shift the CG forward and cause pitch into the wind. I didn't open my kit yet. Does Estes have you put clay weight in the nose cone?? If so, maybe reduce clay weight by the weight of an altimeter?? A straight up flight, if possible, should reduce your search area. My money is on Keith going out and searching some more! Hope you find them!! The cost of the motors/engines is enough without also losing JL 2s.

I did go out again yesterday lol. It's either on a roof or in a tree or on the ground where noone goes. It has contact info on the fin. If someone finds it they may contact me. But good idea on the altimeter position. No clay included. Finally. The space is so huge we should've been out further. Hindsight is 20/20. We had very little breeze and should've both recovered in that field.

@@modelrockets3215 If those rockets possibly did not deploy their streamers, you might try looking closer in to where they were launched from, as they may not have drifted as far as you are looking for them. Distances can be deceiving for sure. If anything, the prevailing wind should have brought them closer to you, provided they pitched into the wind during flight.
@modelrockets3215

@michaelc6817 I took that into consideration. I checked near and far out. Yes it can be deceiving. Right we saw the ejection puffs of red dust but. Never saw streamers. Odd.

@@modelrockets3215 Just think how your eyes would see those streamers at a distance of TEN football fields or over a half mile away. You have found much more difficult finds in the past, so I am rooting for you :.

Something you could try would be to add some talcum powder inside the body tube after you pack the streamers that way when the recovery system deploys you’ll get a big proof of Telcom dust for easier spotting.

Well- Beautiful flights- the end was pretty much my standard- I just wanted to see how high I could go, didn’t have the clear area for flights over 5-700’. My best 2 stage was the Centuri Long Tom- Straight as an arrow, It was one of the sweetest launches. And i just watched it drift and drift. (think brother found it 1/4 mile up the road 2 years later in tree 😂. You’ll be back Keith. and agree with some comments in regards to the altimeter and CG. may want to try a string test to see how it balances. (I’m going back 40 years) Let’s get them flown again. love ur vids. Thanks
