This is part 3 of 3 of my review of the Estes Tandem-X launch set. In this part, I do a complete build of the Crossfire ISX with tips along the way for this Skill Level 1 rocket. It can be launched on A,B,and C engines. At the end of the video, I launch it on an A8-3 and also a B6-4. Great flights both times.

I second this! I'm 43, and the last time I did a project like this I was maybe 10. I remember as a kid how excited I was about how cool the rocket looked in the package, but how disappointed I was to find a toilet paper tube and a bunch of parts. I remember it being hard, even with my dads help back then. Well these instructions were still pretty confusing even now that I'm the dad. Thanks for the video!

I too found the directions a little lacking which is why I searched for a video, so thank you very much. I will say to others who are getting ready to build this rocket to use extreme caution If you are using an exacto or razor blade utility knife to separate the nose cone pieces. I separated one piece using a new blade and had to score it quite a few times before I was able to snap it off. The remaining unit I feel is too small to handle and is an accident waiting to happen so I am going to buy a mini hack saw tool to remove the rest. Do not let your kids work on separating the nose cone/engine components. If you are going to use a utility knife, start from the bottom piece and work your way up, it will be easier to handle.

back in the day when nose cones were wood, we used screw eye and snap swivel to connect chute and shock cord to nose cone, allows for easy removal of body tube from nose cone for removal of a damaged chute due to improper wadding and burn or for repainting nose cone. I am going to modify build on mine to old school nose cone attaching...also adds 1/4 ounce that helps slightly swifter decent...1/4 ounce on a 3 to 4 ounce rocket is significant..also by using a screw eye in cone allows for adding nose cone weight.

Additional mass has no effect on the rate that an object falls back to Earth. The localized acceleration of Gravity is a constant. x = v(initial) t + (1/2) *g* t^2 Since v(initial) is zero at apogee then we can write x = (1/2) *g* t^2 Solving for t... t = SQRT(2x/ *g* ) where x is the height at apogee, *g* is the acceleration of gravity, and t is the time that it takes to travel. (Mass is not a factor in that equation. Weight, W = m *g* ) And at constant velocity, as when descending suspended under a parachute, there are ZERO unbalanced Forces acting upon you. *F* = *W* = m *g* = 0 (Although mass is a factor in that equation since the product is ZERO then the Mass has no effect. in fact you are essentially experiencing weightlessness during that condition. Free Fall...terminal velocity.) Drop a ten pound weight and a one pound weight at the same time from the top of a ladder so that they fall an equal distance and then tell me which one strikes the ground first. (They hit the ground at the same instant.) Weight has nothing to do with it.

@@24kGoldenRocket Consider the affect a parachute has on decent. The rocket is not descending in a vacuum. The parachute is creating drag due to the atmospheric gases. Put the same size parachute (e.g., 12 inches) on a penny and on a ton of lead. Which will descend faster when apogee is 1000 feet?

I really screwed mine up. I cut up the engine holder tube because I wasn't looking at the instructions and then I broke the shock cord/parachute hole so I drilled a hole in the side and put a key ring on it. I'm launching it tomorrow with an a8-3 engine and I'm hoping for the best. Wish me luck!!!

My engines arent igniting even though the launch panel lights up. Amy suggestions ?
@Malikot3

Most likely the cause is wire leads touching right where it bends, causing a short. Also make sure you're holding both the safety pin as well as the launch button for a good 10 sec. Check if you have new batteries.

The coupler with grate in middle of body shows in directions that it goes other way,grate towards bottom not grate to top like you did so I was wondering if that affected your flight at all. I am currently building this amazon rocket and crossfire rocket,Thank you for doing the video it helped me alot on both builds
@Malikot3
@Malikot3 3 жыл бұрын
You mean the coupler on the Amazon rocket? It won't matter. The grate thing is only there to keep the wadding and chute from falling down too far I suppose. Both my Amazon and Crossfire have flown great several times. C6-3s are perfect for the Amazon.

@@Malikot3 yes I was asking about Amazon coupler I did it same as you now I'm debating about where to tie parachute to shock cord or cone? I want to launch them both sunday,also I'm doing c6-5 in amazon and c6-7 in crossfire I hope it goes well idk this my first rockets and first launch ever.thx very much for fast reply
@Malikot3
@Malikot3 3 жыл бұрын
I have better luck tied to nose cone. The chute gets out right away, less chance of it sticking at the end of the tube. Apogee has a great video of rocket prep for first flight. I highly recommend that channel as well
@Malikot3
@Malikot3 3 жыл бұрын
Also, the c6-5 in the Amazon should be fine. The chute may pop late but as long as it went up straight in low wind, you should be ok. The Crossfire with a C6 is gonna scream! Have a big field and watch it closely. Good luck!

I dont remember seeing a long clear decal. Im sure youll be fine. I just looked at the box and tried to match how it looked in the picture. Many people paint it however they like. Sometimes I fly rockets with no paint at first. Once retrieved, they've 'earned' their paint...
