Here is my theory - just like how Jason was losing his Gold Zeo Powers and it was killing him that led to Zordon and Alpha discovering that the Zeo crystal was too strong and unsafe for the entire team of Zeo Rangers to continue using. They are attempting to perfect a new set of powers using a shred of each Zeo crystal within a turbo key, but have no way to stabilize it until Lerigot arrives. The experimentation with the Zeo powers and attempting to create a new set left the morphin grid unstable which is why Kat demorphs easily. Lerigot helps safely bridge the the Zeo crystal and Turbo power technologies that Zordon and Alpha come up with using the morphin grid and thus creating a new set of powers independent of the Zeo powers. Because the each turbo morpher uses only a shred of a Zeo crystal it explains why they were able to make additional sets for the robot rangers and why Justin is able to have his powers back later in In Space. The Power Rangers with Zeo Morphers are secretly instructed that after they transfer over the Turbo Powers to a new team to only use their Zeo Powers in extreme emergencies. This means that the Zeo Zords are safely stored away as well. I would like to think that one day there could be a comic book that shows an alternate perspective of Countdown to Destruction where we see struggles on multiple continents and planets - there would be an opportunity to show the Omega Rangers, the Zeo team, Kimberly and her alternate team of Rangers and the robotic Turbo team.

Something that I remember reading that I liked a lot was that zordon had the zeo rangers waiting in reserve. Since the powers grew over time they would be impossible to beat as they would be called in as a last resort. And to keep them safe they would give the turbo powers over so the zeo energy would grow without them being in harms way. It’s a stretch but could be why they come back for legendary battle as they are facing planetary devastation

I have a theory, I call it the cracked crystals theory, it goes like this The zero crystal itself was the source of all the power but when it was split into five pieces thst split compromised the ability to contain that power, since the crystals can’t properly make the power flow properly from the source and user it becomes cracked and should the crystals shatter the energy real ease would cause a extinction level explosion, so in a last chance effort zordon and alpha eithire created or had created the first artificial team, makeing some cars into zords, taping into the grid in a new way, the dominant type of zords are allways animal based but every seson that has car zords they are artificiallymaid, think light speed rescue, rpm and over drive.the zero powers are still their but they rarely use the powers to help make sure the crystals won’t shatter.

I dig this video and the possible theories. I always assumed that since Rocky was injured and the Zeo Crystals were specific to that group of people they needed a new set of powers. I was a toddler when Zeo was happening so I can’t imagine I cared deeply about any detailed explanations when Turbo rolled around. Definitely curious in retrospect though lol

I always assumed every new power was a new power. A good theory could be that the crystals needed a recharge after the machine empire since the final battle might have put a strain on the crystals. They needed to become one again so that they can recharge because they were separated too long and didn't have enough power to fight the new enemy. Thus the new turbo powers were created. The whole water thing might have just screwed up the morph because a new element was introduced in the middle of transformation. Aka air then water. So for Kat if she was fully underwater then transformed. I think it would have been fine.

I think there's a missing movie before Turbo (it wouldn't end positively so I can see why it doesn't exist - maybe Boom Studios can resolve it one day) where the rangers lose the zeo crystal or have to give it up as their power source, and then they have to start work on deveoping a replacement power source (Turbo). Meanwhile they can use Zordon's energy to facilitate the occasional morph (falling Kat) like when Tommy was still able to morph into green ranger after the green candle. It would tie up the loose ends and explain why it just isn't explained in the Turbo movie!

I’ve always believed that the Zeo powers used life force when ever they morphed it wasn’t safe and why zordon made them switch.it does get stronger over time but should only be used in emergencies like in soul of the dragon

I wished Turbo: A Power Ranger's Movie was longer in length and i think the cast thought so too. Imo, I thought the rangers should've all been seen in their Zeo ranger outfits. Im in the minority but i enjoyed Power Rangers Turbo compared to seasons that came much later. Especially when the 2nd half of the season got better in story. And the season finale was awesome! to see the Power Chamber actually be destroyed from the inside this time and the rangers desperately defend it. And i thought the monster in Chase Into Space Part 1 that destroyed both megazords should've been Dark Spector in Power Rangers In Space and the showrunners considered it but went with the Maligore monster from the Turbo movie as a planet size leader to all previous season villains.

I was under the impression that Zordon and Alfa modified the Zeo powers i.e “turbo charged them” and that they are still using the Zeo powers.

This “Zeo powers are not waterproof” is a bs statement: the Super Zeo Zord IV (Green) was a specialist in underwater battles, being even able to hold its own against Impulsonator and make her - Rita’s and Zedd’s strongest monster EVER - be forced to return to land quickly.

The one flaw with the zeo powers having an issue with water is that in one of the episodes of zeo we see them sometimes fighting underwater in their superzeo zords.

I like the theory of the crystal being potentially being too powerful. This seems to remind me of how in the Rangers were told in the Japanese counterpart that Choriki can take a lot out of their stamina.

With the anniversary special coming out in April I have the following theory: The barrier to Maligore blocked mystical powers and magic, and Turbo is the first man-made powers, making it possible for them to cross. The Answer is quite simple: The Turbo Powers were more powerful, in 1997 (by the time of Soul of the Dragon in mid 2030s, this has changed) In the Turbo Movie, Zordon says that the zords (referring to the Zeo and Super Zeo Zords, possibly Pyramidas) werent enough to stop Maligore. And then in the end of the movie, the Turbo Megazord destroys Maligore.

I thought as a kid that it was because the power was transferred into the Turbo morphers because the tech around crystal were starting to wear out. But looking at it now, the Zeo powers grew the longer a conflict went on and they needed that to combat an entire empire, but that doesn't mean that they could handle extensive use in harsh environments, but the turbo powers have more endurance, stability, and versatility like a well maintained range of vehicles maybe?

Actually... the Zeo Crystal looks an awful lot like a selenite crystal. Selenite crystals are water soluble. So it makes perfect sence that Zeo Powers are NOT water proof, since the Zeo Crystal which is essentially a selenite can disolve in water.

i was writing up an alternate storyline where the Zeo Turbo shift was done via some wizard mechanic from space who was a huge ranger fan after Edenoi was saved, and infused the crystal energy into the Turbo Zords’ engines as thanks for saving him from RYGOG’s City Planet HQ, and it involves the 2nd team

Well, in the movie the Turbo Keys were similar to Lerigot's Golden Key. But if I remember some series intersimensional need faster speeds to breach dimensional barriers. So I believe the Turbo Powers were created to fight in other dimensions. Especially since Divatox was capable of capturing Wizards able to open dimensional gateways before. It was a necessary and helpful addition because Zeo is strong yes. Turbo is fast. Which was what was needed to defeat Maligore and save their fellow former Rangers.

My theory: we saw the Zeo crystal separate into 5 crystals that connected to each one of em, now maybe the more they used the Zeo powers, each one of their crystals slowly begins to shrink and disappear that's why they had to switch powers, also it's giving us an explanation why kat d morph in the water, bc that was the moment her crystal was gone

My own theory. Over time the Zeo powers grew to strong for the rangers to use without damaging the rangers themselves. Billy was working on turbo powers but was unable to finish them due to him moving to Aquatra.

I am not sure if I have gotten your points correctly. The Zeonizers aren't waterproof. That's why Kat's power shorted when she felt into the sea at the movie. They needed something waterproof, hence the Turbo power and car that's float on power. Since Divatox wasn't as great a threat as machine empire, there was no point switching back to the stronger Turbo power.

You can make any theory, but in reality the answer is quite simple: Saban run out Oh-ranger footage, so they should write a scenario to excuse rangers transition from Zeo to Turbo even if it create plot hole and unanswered mystery.

The thing about Zeo it had showcased the powers of the crystal, but the transition to Turbo had a missed opportunity to explain why they had to give up the powers. Like they had to use the full capabilities of the crystal to partially destroy Serpentera to the moon, which explains why it was buried under all the rubble. That's from Rangerboard. I highly recommend you read it and visualize what it could have been. Prince Gasket and Archerina. The last time we saw them, they teleported away; I would put it as her father, King Aradon, found her location but unintentionally brought that husband of hers. (His suit, I would put Shin Ginis, at first.) He makes his head security (Azald) "grounds" his daughter. War general (Jagged) to observe what is unique about Earth and head scientist (Quval) to be with the general to supervise and report. His second hand (Naria) would have been given the task to revive any of the Metal Bots with a unique collection of gold medals with a kiss of rebirth. When the Zordon wave was coming, he activates a planetary defense shield which did work only to create an earthquake-like aftershock. A building structure landed on his lower body, damaged, but he would have gotten a repair if they hadn't used all of the resources they had for his soldiers of war instead of using it sparingly. He had to be placed in a pod. He can move but is limited on where he is. For years they had been observing, and it was time to find more resources because the closest thing that perfectly matches their materials is Earth. All other planets don't have the correct results they needed. They conquered, but it was to his satisfaction. Getting bored of doing the same thing, he needs excitement for something deadly.

Sorry for the text wall, but I have a theory about the Zeo-Turbo transition that I've been working on for a while now, that tries to tie up several things. --Zordon has always been aware of events on other planets, like that time the Rangers met Masked Rider. When the Machine Empire showed up, Zordon had a full infodump ready to go, he wasn't all like "Oh no, I have no idea who these guys are!". Same with Zedd, Rito, and Master Vile. It makes sense that he would know about the rise of Dark Specter and the Alliance of Evil. Probably years in advance, back in Season 3 (the "Ninja" period) or even earlier. --During Zeo, when Billy kept disappearing and we were supposed to think he was secretly the Gold Ranger, he was really going to work on designs for the Turbo powers and Zords. He had some kind of secret lab in the Power Chamber, similar to where Zordon and Alpha created Tommy's White Ranger power. His work required him to study the Zeo powers while they were being used (meaning while the Rangers were in battle) so that's the reason for the timing behind his disappearances: he needed to take scans of the Rangers, including the Gold Ranger, to understand the power and try to build something similar. The Turbo powers aren't an upgrade to Zeo, they're just a stopgap. They're the best Billy was able to do with the limitations of technology available. During the Turbo movie, they added Larigot's magic to the Turbo keys so they could get the Rangers through the portal to Maligore's island, but the designs are based on Earth technology that Billy is most used to. Zordon had Billy promise to not tell the others what he was doing. Only Zordon, Alpha, and Billy knew about the rising danger, because the Rangers had enough to worry about when fighting the Machine Empire. --During Turbo when Kat tries to morph while falling of a cliff, hitting the water interrupts her morph. But that's it. The power isn't vulnerable to water or anything, if it was then the Machine Empire would be able to defeat the Rangers with a garden hose. They even had a couple of submerged Zord fights with no problems. --At some point (maybe during Zeo or maybe earlier) Zordon made an arrangement with the director of NASADA. He gave them blueprints for a space shuttle that could combine with the Astro Megaship (as Alpha said, it was "all part of Zordon's master plan"). This explains why it was so easy for the Rangers to just hop on the shuttle and take off. He knew that at some point a Ranger team might need to go into space in a hurry, so he laid the ground work just in case. This (along with other Space Zords like the Mega Voyager) was Plan B. --Here's something that always bothered me about Zordon. He's selfless. He's not the kind of mentor who would just leave when the opportunity presents itself. A new enemy has just arrived on Earth and started planting detonators in power plants and the like, but he's just going to retire? Just take off and leave things in Dimitria's hands? No, Zordon would stay on Earth, and continue to mentor the Rangers himself as he has always done, even if that wormhole was the last chance he would ever have to return home. It makes a lot more sense, character-wise, if Zordon's "retirememnt" was actually him going to a much bigger, more important fight: the fight against the Alliance of Evil. And you don't go into a big, important fight and leave your most powerful weapon behind. Once the Turbo powers had been tested a couple of times, everything was ready. Larigot came to Earth to free Zordon from his tube and send him and Alpha through the wormhole, and they took the Zeo powers with them. Zordon intended to create a new Zeo Ranger team on Eltar. That was Plan A. --Partway through the Turbo season, it became apparent that not even the new Zeo Rangers could defeat the Alliance. Zordon asked Alpha-6 and Dimitria to create robotic copies of the Turbo team and send them to help out, since a Zeo team and a Turbo team could fight side-by-side without violating the "no duplicate powers" rule. --Even the combined efforts of the new Zeo and robotic Turbo teams still weren't enough. All 10 of them were defeated and Zordon was captured. We know what happens next, the Rangers go "In Space". --At some point after Countdown to Destruction, the Zeo powers were recovered by someone (probably Ninjor, or maybe the Phantom Ranger or one of the Alphas, doesn't much matter). They were taken back to Earth and returned to their original owners, allowing them to appear in future crosovers like Forever Red and Megaforce.

It does raise the question why when Adam came back and used the damaged morpher (do like that he called for the original non destroyed power only instead of the ninja one )instead of the Zeo morpher (since they can clearly rebuild the morpher because they did) or even when he came back to to lead the vet team in overdrive why didn't he use his Zeo power because he shows up with it later. I like the theory that the real reason the powers were switched out was so the turbo powers established and could be passed on allowing the zeo team to work covert handling threats using the Zeo powers and as a fail save having the most powerful team as a last resort also works as possibly mega force was meant to be a backup to replace any ranger that fell using the fallen rangers powers to ensure each set could still be complete

Interesting theory, while I agree that it is weird, it does hold water a bit. My theory is that after the events of the final episode of Zeo, the crystal was drained. Seeing as Trey made the others and himself grow to fight Mondo, that could've put a strain on it. After Rocky gets injured, Zordon could've told the others to use the power of the crystal to help him recover. Hence why he's back to normal in the first episode of Turbo (back injuries aren't something that heal over night, nor do they heal without therapy over long amounts of time). With the crystal being used to heal Rocky, the others had a small amount of the crystal to use if needed. This would explain why when Kat morphed, it failed and she was injured. The fragment of the Zeo crystal she had was too weak to sustain the morph. Imagine it similar to a battery in a flashlight. It can function for small bursts, but not sustained amounts of time. Her morphing might have drained the amount of power her fragment had, thus the morph failed. Seeing as healing Rocky was taking the crystal's power, Zordon needed new powers for the rangers to use against Divatox. This would also explain the cut Adam and Tanya fight, since their fragments might have had enough power to sustain a morph, but putting their power on par with say MMPR levels of rangers. It would explain why the powers were seen after turbo, and why the teams needed the newer powers (aside from Sentai footage, toys, etc).

Does no one remember that they needed the keys to cross the barrier? The reason for the Keys like Lerogot. Maybe they needed the new powers to cross? The struggle when Justin dropped his and they just made it.

So they needed the turbo keys to get to Miranthius in the Turbo movie, and also there was a throwaway line about how the Turbo Zords were able to get transported to the island stealthily (leading me to think they couldn't just launch the Super Zeo Megazord to wherever they needed to). Also they were down Trey and Pyramidus as he returned to his own world so no Ultrazord. Using those keys to power a new ranger system that at the time was stated to be stronger and didn't limit them to being bonded to specific individuals like the zeo crystal and the power coins when Zordon was pretty much thinking of kicking them off the team so they could live their best adult lives makes sense.

The Zeo Crystal and the Turbo Powers are two separate power sources. Once Turbo came in, the Rangers placed their Zeo Sub-Crystals back into one full Crystal and placed it in a vault somewhere in the Power Chamber. Then I think Zordon may have taken the Crystal with him back to Eltar during Episode 3 of Turbo.

If you see this, do you think it's ever possible for the zero powers to be passed on considering there not gone and maybe once a new villain arrives the zero power is the only chance to defeat the new threat.

There are some crystals that can be damaged by water. But… That sounds silly that the zero crystal is one of them. The tech not being waterproof… Sounds like a big oversight… I like the idea that if there power gets stronger with use, that the power becomes more then the ranger’s body can handle. Eventually becoming too much… And eventually be the same issue as the gold powers. So while the team used these powers, Zordon and Billy started making the Turbo powers, so when the time came they could switch.

My personal theory as to why the Zeo powers were replaced with the Turbo power was that the Zeo Powers were “out of power and battery” because of what occur in the finale where they grew giant sized (Like seriously, why does everyone keep on forgetting that happened in Zeo?). As a result, their Zeo Powers by the Turbo movie would have been severely weakened and thus was why Adam didn’t used it in his cameo episode in Power Rangers In Space. This would also explain why Tommy was able to use it in Forever Red as by the time of Wild Force, the powers would have been rejuvenated and this would allow them to turn into the Zeo Rangers once more.

The Zeo powers were decimated by water according to the cast and crew. Which makes less sense then justin turning into a grown up after morphing into the blue turbo ranger.

Jason didn't get his power from the Zeo Crystal he got them from Tre of triphoria... They power was meant to be use by a truporian(3 people) which is why Jason couldn't handle them. As he wasn't three people living as one.

They should have taken the 3 hours movie and instead of scaling it down to one it should have been 2 movies. 1 explaining the Zeo powers failing and the other introducing the Turbo Powers

I just thought up only one possible explanation. In the Turbo movie, Zordon did mention to the rangers on after Divatox & Maligor we'd, nothing will stop them. Not even the Zords (Zeo Zords) would be enough to stop them. I can assume the Ranger's Zeo powers and their Zords are too different things because the Zords were built by Billy and Alpha. Except for the Super Zeo Zords, and Gold Ranger's Zord which would tower over Maligor. But overall, rangers can't defeat them without the zords and the Gold Ranger wasn't around anymore nor did they think to call on his help. That's the best I got now.

The rangers also switch to Turbo powers because the Zeo powers weren't accessable going into the dark dimension to fight Divatox and save Larigo

Actually as silly as it sounds there are some crystals in real life that are not supposed to be in water. Quartz crystals, Emeralds, and Diamonds are ok in water, but others like Selenite, Obsidian, and Calcite are not. This is because these crystals fall below 5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale meaning they can't tolerate water. So I guess the Zeo Crystal's score on the Mohs Hardness Scale is very low.

Zordon wouldn't have given them powers that killed them. There is no in universe explanation that makes sense. They really should have just ended the continuation at the end of Zeo and started Turbo with an entirely new team of rangers & villains & guides.

In my opinion, the zeo powers outgrew the rangers human bodies, but there is 1 thing people will say to dispute this theory. And that's the fact that Jason, a ranger who got the powers of triphoria, a zeo crystal based power turning him into the gold zeo ranger, had to give it up earlier than the other rangers cause he couldn't take the strain. But, I have a counter point theory. The powers of the gold ranger were not originally held by 1 person, they were held by 3 triplets that fused into 1 gold ranger. And this is because the gold ranger zeo powers were 3 times stronger that the standard zeo powers. Each of the triplets who originally bore the power of triphoria each took on the same amount of energy as the other 5 zeo rangers individually so they can handle the strain of the gold ranger powers, but thrusting the power of 3 zeo crystal powers onto 1 human would mean he would be overclocking his body's limits when it came to handling zeo crystal energy, and eventually would burn out quicker than the others, who have 1/3rd of the power Jason would have to bare

I don't know if I believe the zeo powers/morphers weren't waterproof... Like for example I think it was Adam in his super zeo zord that was hunting monsters underwater. It wouldn't be safe for him to be down there at all if that was the case. Let's suppose he fought a baddie down there, the monster of the week got in a lucky shot and breached the cockpit, water starts to leak in splashes on him and he demorphs. He is now hundreds or thousands of feet underwater, in a zord he can't pilot (I'm assuming his powers give him some magic knowledge to pilot his zords because they're never shown learning to operate them. No ranger ever is except for Tommy in his white tiger zord) and he doesn't have the super strength that being morphed gives him so no way he could open an escape hatch (cuz of the immense underwater pressure) and get out. Additionally, I don't think that Adam's zeo 4 powers/morpher would be waterproof while Kat's zeo 1 powers/morpher wouldn't be.

I like to think that zordon ( with the help of Ninjor and billy ) found a way to drain some the zeo energy to help make the turbo powers.liek perhaps they found out if the rangers keep using them, it would kill them because of power overload since the power grew over time. This would explain why tommy was able to use those powers time to time safely. Also I like Este's theory about the crystal bonding . This would explain why the gold ranger powers harmed jason as he never bonded with the gold zeo crystal. Kinda of like how the dino gems bonded with the rangers on dino thunder. Though now I have to wonder if the gems and zeo crystals came from the same place but with different properties. I mean the dino gems didn't get stronger over time.. just a crazy though running in my head

My thing is maybe the zeo crystal needed to be whole. However even if it gets stronger over time it may have a affect like a dieing battery in a freezer but it gets stronger but is compromise with other elements around it. They technology with the Morpher. Trey's powers are similar with zeo crystal but it's more unstable with human DNA

The problem with your Gold Ranger Theory Este is that the Gold Ranger powers didn't come from the Zeo Crystal. It's a good guess, but remember that the Gold Ranger powers were made only for those of Triforian Physiology to wield long-term. Hence why Jason was dying from using them. Otherwise, this was a good video. 👌

Maybe over time the zeo crystal itself can start to Crack and weaken it becomes more unstable and the rangers would have the limit the use of it

My theory: Zeo powers just like gold ranger, aren't a great fit for human body over a long time. The gold ranger power is a lot more intense so thats why it happened so rapidly for Jason, but yeah it's not a long term exposure kind of thing. Turbo powers were created just like zordon created the white ranger powers in MMPR, and since they did a test of mass producing them with the "robot rangers" episode, Zordon's plan was to shoot them all over the universe to keep evil at bay.

The Zeo powers are one of the few PR powers that weren't actually lost/destroyed and were just kind of shelved and forgotten in favor of the Turbo powers for seemingly no solid reason other than for Saban and Bandai to make more money. Honestly I hated Turbo. Ranger powers with a car motif just wasn't cool and interesting to me like dinosaurs or ninjas or mystic animals or whatever. Idk how much of this is gone over in this video as I made this comment right as I hit play.

Here my theory of why Tommy didn't use his Zeo power in Dino Thunder. In episode 2, they were there to tame the zord. No point for Tommy to transform into Zeo Ranger V. In episode 3, Tommy didn't expect an attack. That's why he merely asked Ethan to come with him and only called the others after the attack happened

They had to switch because, like Jason, they were dying and Tommy is the one that survived, being in Forever red. On the other hand, The team that was shown in the Megaforce Crossover weren't the Zeo rangers, they were the MMPR Rangers Coming back as Zeo to make up for the fallen rangers. Yes the MMPR/ Alien rangers were there but the people controlling them are there, temporary to fight through the 10 million robots. People that are in the MMPR Suits are the Alien rangers, and the one controlling the alien rangers is Ninjor, entirely. He made the power, so he can control all the power.

Maybe the Zeo crystals were like borrowed, that they belonged to Trey of Triforia's people, who are perhaps descendants of the ancient race from the M51 Galaxy, and he and Zordon had an agreement that the Rangers could keep using the crystals until Zordon and Alpha 5 finished the turbo morphers, which they may have started to do after the rangers became zeo. That the Zeo morphers were a temporary solution because they were vulnerable after their base was destroyed and lost the mighty morph'in powers. It was an emergency and quick decisions had to be made. After the rangers got the turbo morphers, Zordon and Alpha 5 sent the zeo crystals to Triforia.

I heard the zeo crystal have to be changed because the ranges cannt use the zeo crystal any more because it take a toll on its body

Power rangers turbo movie derserves a remake I love the movie but It felt too much like a tv show too me but I would love this Idea of a remake but Idk If there's anyone talanted enough too make the turbo cars since George Barris Is not around anymore

As much as I love power rangers I think Zeo should have ended in the way they did with the "Z wave" in Power Rangers in Space. Using the Zeo crystals to destroy all the evil bad guys. I think it could have wrapped up the original story nicely and give them a nice send off. Then Turbo could have taken place much like other later seasons with a new set of rangers given powers.
