My favourite part of the whole season is when Rocky receives his powers, and it cuts briefly to Alpha comforting Billy as he struggles to accept it. It's just such a powerful moment conveyed in a very short amount of time.

You've really got to feel bad for Zedd at the start of this season. He's finally defeated the Rangers, destroyed their base, potentially destroyed his arch enemy Zordon, and got his hands on an insanely powerful artefact. But, before he even has the chance to start enslaving people, the Machine Empire comes the hell out of left field, and he's forced to abandon his palace to go live with his father-in-law. Evil emperors can't catch a break.

I loved 'It Came From Angel Grove', if for nothing else the idea that the hero was having a nightmare because---he was overtired! No villain manipulation, no spell, no blow to the head or like that, not even a secret test of character. Just too much work and not enough rest. Which does offer a WMG on why Tommy got his degrees so quickly. After leaving the Rangers, and having gotten by on low sleep and rushed homework for years, just having a normal college sched must have seemed like an extended vacay.

I remember squeeing REALLY LOUD when it was revealed to be Jason. Jason Lee Scott, my absolute _FAVORITE_ Power Ranger from MMPR, was _back_ .

I'm surprised Linkara didn't bring up that the actress who played the ski instructor also played Kaitlin Star, one of the VR troopers. Especially since he brought up the potential crossover between the two shows involving the gold ranger.

I remember when they previewed the Gold Ranger and distinctly hearing Jason's voice and actually wanting to watch it to confirm it. Also, did anyone else realize at that time that the number for each Ranger was the number of lines or points of the visor. 1 is a circle, 2 is an equal sign or 2 lines, 3 is a triangle, 4 is a rectangle, and 5 is a star. Even the Gold Ranger has 6 points sorta to his shape. Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it though.

The beginning of this episode reminded me of a theory I came up with. I theorized that Ernie is actually Zordon in disguise, using his human form to scout out potential candidates for Rangers, as well as keeping close tabs on said rangers after they were chosen. That would explain why a juice bar would have all kinds of physical activities like gymnastics, karate, trampolines etc. Zordon was searching for teenagers of proper physical skill and personal conduct

In the comics it's started that Kimberly didn't actually meet someone else up broke up with Tommy because she felt they just grew too far apart.

There is apparently a reason why they say "Zeo Ranger 1, 2, 3, 4, 5" the shapes on their helmet. Kat is one circle and Tommy is a star which is 5 points.

Wow, this is a massive improvement from the original version of the review from over 6 years ago. I love how you've been going and correcting just about every mistake or error you made previously (much like how you said you'd do previously, though in its own separate video) in these redone HOPR reviews, and it really goes to show how much the quality of HOPR has improved since you first began working on it. Finally touching on the Trueheart episodes was great, and honestly, the clip you used at the beginning of this one with Ernie talking to the blender was a much more hilarious choice than the computer virus one you used at the start of the original Zeo review.

Speaking of Ninjor, it's REALLY a shame that he didn't return in Super Megaforce. Kinda hard to forgive, really. OH DEAR LORD THAT OLD MAN WIG ON BILLY IN WHATEVER CHRISTMAS EP THAT WAS

Hearing Linkara mention Asajj Ventress was unexpected. Here I was, thinking he never went near the Clone Wars...

Frankly, I think the main issue with Tommy and Katherine’s relationship versus Tommy and Kimberly’s is a comparative lack of screen time devoted to it. Kim had the better part of three seasons where we saw how good she and Tommy were together whereas Kat only really had half of this season and half of the next. That’s not a knock against Kat, mind you (I honestly liked that Doug Sloan had her show maturity by NOT immediately taking advantage of Tommy getting dumped and trying to set him up with Heather rather than claim him for herself, since it shows that she prioritizes Tommy’s happiness over her own and I think that’s a good quality to look for in a partner), it’s just that the audience doesn’t really get the same kind of emotional investment with her that they did with Kim if only because there was less time to establish it. With Kim, we saw them together, going on dates, fighting side-by-side (the unmorphed fight in “Two for One” is a good example of this, showing how effective and in-synch they were with each other), and hell, over 25 years later, they’re STILL the only Ranger couple to get an on-screen kiss. There wasn’t nearly enough of that with Kat to really sell their relationship. Granted, I don’t think it would’ve been impossible to make the relationship work even with having less episodes to do it in (Zeta Gundam managed to do this with Kamille and Four in even LESS time), but then we have to take into account another factor: Johnathan Tzachor’s bizarre form of laziness - which, looking back, was always there, it just only became impossible to ignore by the Neo-Saban era. When you have a guy at the helm whose mentality was basically “burn through as much of the Sentai footage as we can”, you then realize why Katherine never got that chance. By Zeo, the suits changing meant we were back to mostly Sentai footage for the fights, and Kat’s effectiveness was hampered by the fact that in Ohranger, Momo was more often than not the resident damsel in distress of the team. This was in contrast to Kimberly, who was prone to needing to be rescued on occasion, sure (Changing of the Zords, anyone?), but also had more episodes that showcase that she was still as effective a fighter as anyone else on the team. Having more episodes like the aforementioned Two for One could’ve helped further establish both the relationship and the idea of Kat as Tommy’s equal - or at least as close as any of the Rangers could be to being Tommy’s equal, since by this point he was on a level light years ahead of them - but I don’t think Tzachor was really interested in that. He wanted to do things on the cheap, damn everything else. And when Turbo DID give an opportunity for moments like that - the Piranhatrons were American-exclusive foot soldiers unlike the Cogs - everyone behind the scenes knew that Jason David Frank was leaving, so they didn’t care anymore. Doubly so when it became clear that Catherine Sutherland wouldn’t be sticking around either. You know, Sutherland mentioned that they wanted her to return for Dino Thunder, with Kat as Tommy’s wife and presumably serving a similar role as what Hayley ultimately filled, but due to costs, they could only get JDF. And as much as I prefer Tommy with Kimberly, I won’t deny that I’m curious as to how this version of the season would’ve played out, if only because maybe there would’ve finally been a chance to see their relationship properly on display rather than being more or less in the background.

Did anyone else come to the simple question of, "When Rita and Zedd were escaping, why didn't they simply go wherever Zedd came from before he assumed Rita's job?" I mean, clearly things there are under control if he came to earth.

They missed a perfect opportunity to be Trey of Power, Trey of Courage, and Trey of Wisdom.

I like the theory that Ernie was Zordon in a man behind the curtain act strengthened by the fact that their departures happened nearly at the same time. And also David fielding said that was originally going to be a reveal back when IS was only going to be a single season.

Fun fact: Kat and Tommy in canon do have a son who gets a comic tie in where his becomes the new SPD Green Ranger.

It's messed up how Tisha basically missed her childhood and is living in a different time from when she was born.

Man Zeo was my best for me when it came to power rangers. Opening. Rangers Zords All of it great.

Only two months between MMPR and Zeo?? It felt like soooo much longer when I was a kid. I swear, it felt like a year, maybe more. I remember thinking Power Rangers was done and over and was never coming back. And then we started seeing those shorts on Fox Kids. Those shorts that ended with a snippet of the original Zeo theme which sang "It's coming." I remember the suspense, as well as the hope.

Jason coming back was the greatest moment in PR for me when I was little. I was so excited!

Expect Ninjor was briefly brought up during the season opener, A Zeo Beginning. During the ending scene.

I remember those minis. They'd end with "IT'S COMING!" with music and space graphics.

Interestingly enough, Brad Hawkins would later go on to do Anime voice work, like Johnny Young Bosch and Patricia Ja Lee.(Patricia did do some cartoon voiceovers before Power Rangers and Anime voiceovers.) Brad did plenty of Funimation voice work.

Good to see this back. Time to see how much of an improvement this version is over the original version you did years ago. I know that you don't watch the Sentai but yeah, this is also the season where both the US and Japanese versions of it went in different directions. The Sentai for Zeo, Chouriki Sentai OhRanger was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Super Sentai. It was going to be serious, intense and good... until real life events changed the plot and kind of caused the show to go downhill quality-wise. Ohranger was going to be the Sentai that would ultimately kill Super Sentai altogether... until they learned that toy sales for the show reaches a monstrous high. Yeah. Even in Japan, Sentai is merchandise driven and that pretty much gave TOEI one more chance and Carranger came about that saved it. It wasn't until Gingaman where ratings would be stable again. Power Rangers Zeo was basically where things take a light hearted turn. And that's all I can say since the show did have some good moments and character development. Though watching this and the original version of HOPR Zeo, I seem to get the idea. And we know what will happen next after this.

Hell, even Kat and Jason would've not only been better (as showcased in the Gasket and Archerina portion of the season) but a roll reverse of Tommy and Kimberly circa S1 and first 20 of S2 pre -White Light in a sense. Looking back at the idiotic choice a forced TomKat ship, its easy to declare the bizarre laziness of Jonathan Tzachor was always there; it just kept popping up like a groundhog once a fortnight until Lightspeed Rescue when it started showing more whether we had gotten Titanium Ranger or not. Though one can easily cite Turbo's first half as strongest example *which could very well explain the Mike and Emily or Jake and Gia stuff in Samurai and Megaforce respectively exists

On this day 21 years ago, Power Rangers Zeo aired on Fox Kids. The day before my 11th birthday. Good times. I was really excited for Zeo and I still enjoy it.

Anyone notice that the shapes on the visors have sides corresponding to the Rangers number? Zeo ranger 1: a circle. Zeo ranger 2 two circles. Zeo ranger 3: a triangle. Zeo ranger 4, a rectangle, and Zeo ranger 5: a star. That's brilliant on the power rangers staff part to assign them numbers for that.

The rumor I recall reading (after the fact of course) was that the reason David Yost wasn't made the Gold Ranger was because the production staff felt having a gay Ranger wouldn't be a good image. But then, if David Yost was out of the closet before MMPR started (if I'm wrong, I apologize); why was he chosen as the Blue Ranger in the first place? Also, what would his character arc have been had DY not walked out after "King for a Day: Part 2"?

A couples of days ago, when I was coming home to take a brief break from work, I was planning on watching one of the copied uploads of the original version of this. When I turned my TV one, the first thing I saw was this video having just been uploaded.

re: the misconceptions about Ohranger and Carranger (as brought to my attention in Des Shinta's intro to his Ohranger review posting this month as well). 1) The Kobe Earthquake at the start of 1995 and a terrorist attack a month after the show premiered caused Toei to play the executive meddling card in turning the tone from what was originally intended to be Chojin Sentai (Winged Squadron) Jetman mk2 into turning the comedy and fantasy elements that plagued Zyuranger, Dairanger and even Kakuranger (though midway it went from camp to dark but not another Jetman) and the ratings never recovered as a result. 2) Carranger's ratings were as bad as Ohranger's and sold less toys than it. In 1996 alone, Ultraman Tiga and Juuko B Fighters and B Fighters Kabuto (or as we know the footages now here as Beetleborgs and Beetleborgs Metallix) had higher ratings than Carranger and the one sentai season that truly help rebound the franchise (much like with PR) is Megaranger so that and In Space have more in common than you think.

About the Zeo Ranger shapes, they’re supposed to signify the ranger’s number. The pink circle is 1, the yellow pause button is 2, the blue triangle is 3, the green rectangle is 4, the red star is 5 and the gold Japanese symbol is 6. Wild force’s golden sash did the whole Ranger number thing, white has 1 sash, black has 2 sashes, blue has 3 sashes, yellow has 4 sashes, red has 5 sashes and silver has 6 sashes.

They did mention Ninjor at the end when they are all sitting around the table. He is back at his Tempel!

Hey, nice to see a fresh version of the Zeo review here on YT. I've noticed a lot more changes here as compared with the other reviews, kudos on that since it made this video all the more interesting to watch and illuminated some really interesting details not covered before, so this definitely was worth the time to make :) To be slightly fair to the Native American magic stuff, they do live in a world with a LOT of magical users, influences, abilities and sources. We've seen literally hundreds of them, including various Gods and spirits. So in that world, it's not really a stretch that we happen to find a Native American character with magic powers. Though, that doesn't excuse the annoying trope of using whatever cultural elements they can scarcely recall, mashed together from various different tribes from different bloody hemispheres, into one eye-rolling package. Haha, really happy to hear a Goa'Uld reference here (even if it was mispronounced, though not a big deal). Makes me wonder, did you see the TV show Stargate, or just the movie (or thinking about it, SFDebris' reviews)? My hope you saw or plan to see the show, it's great stuff and I think you'd enjoy it.

Also, I love that you talked about how important the change to Zeo was. Since I didn't grow up with the original series, I like knowing things like this

A very underrated but awesome season. Best episode was the last one Good As Gold. Loved that Tanga/Cog fight. I wish Linkara would have mentioned that the Tangas technically WON that since they still had that 1 tanga left standing. I also loved Bulk and Skull not only in the King For A Day two-parter but that episode where they had to take that test and thought the monster attack was part of the test and they passed because they got bonus points for that. So Bulk and Skull LOL!

Not gonna lie... when they revealed Jason, I got excited. He was my favorite Ranger.

The thing about Tommy and Kat is that the writers could have made it work as a relationship between two people who experienced similar traumas and hardships and are working together in order to make themselves better. I know that Kim and Billy have also been mind-controlled by Rita and Zedd, but Kat and Tommy's was different from theirs due to being longer. They could have bonded over it, forming a relationship that turns romantic over time. I'm just saying it could have worked, but the writers made it bland and didn't utilize the plotlines that had been created with these characters. And this is coming from someone who multiships both TomKat & Tomberly. I will also say that, given recent events regarding Kim's sport, the breakup seems harsher in hindsight than the writers could have ever intended in 1996. I know, Power Rangers doesn't always reflect the real world similarly to Marvel & DC. But given a certain scandal that came out of gymnastics from around the 90s, it makes me think that Kim might have been lying about what really caused her to break up with Tommy.

Glad to see this coming back. I was actually feeling nostalgic for these videos coming out at Christmas. Yes you've managed to ingrain HOPR as part of my Christmas tradition now. So I recently went back and rewatched the reviews for Mega force, Samurai, and Mystic Force.

I can't remember if you mentioned this in your original video or if it just aired in NY but I remember there being 5 commercials for hyping up Zeo that included colored lasers carving out the shapes of each ranger's helmet to the music of what would be the open theme with the singers only saying "You've got to see it. It's coming" which climaxed the minute before the series premiered mashing them all together and then ending with a great crescendo and the singers exclaim "Unleashing the Power of Zeo"

Glad to see you're still redoing the older episodes on KZfaq. I'm looking forward to Dino Charge.

I like to think that the zeo zords where either in production during season 2, given their animal theme. Or they are infact rebuilt from the destroyed thunderzords. Given the fact that while they where rendered inoperable the zords came apart in relatively whole chunks. Meaning that even if they wheren't tied to the now damaged power coins they would atleast be useable for parts. Similarly i like to think the shogun zords, where actually sent to Aquitar. Given that the alien rangers could use them and they wheren't tied down to any given team. as for the ninja zords, while i won't say they where destroyed, they where likely rendered unuseable without the ninja power coins, likely ninjor was left to recreate the coins which is why we didn't hear of or from him during the following seasons, as we don't know just how long it takes to make those coins.

i recently stumbled across these videos and they are exactly the videos that not only a fan would like, but someone whos fallen behind in the series. excellent explanations and overview plus great opinion based theories. the only sad part is its hard to binge watch because a lot of the part 1s are missing online! though i noticed a lot are being reuploaded. heres to hoping the excellent work continues!

It really goes to show you how much has changed since the original HOPR videos. I never noticed your breathing in the first few seasons until you mentioned it in your first remake of the Mighty Morphin' era and I rewatched the whole series again

I think it's awesome that you are re-editing these but, I'll have to come back when part 2 is out or, it will drive me crazy.

Would’ve been so badass if they had stuck with Ryan Steele as the gold ranger. I’m perfectly fine with Jason returning but can’t help but imagine what could’ve been.
