How to estimate the price and source the materials needed for building a shipping container structure. And adding up the cost of the decorative entrance way I just did.

You see opportunities where other people see junk and you keep the middleman out of it. I spent my life time doing the same and making contacts with people and businesses that will work with you. I am now retired but I have been passing all my information down to my kids who have families which has saved them lots of money. My wife just hated going with me when we would buy items for our home. I have never paid retail for anything except electricity for our home. People just don’t realize how you can save by just balking at the prices businesses try to sell their merchandise for. I need a special medicine and the copayment was $75 and I did a bunch of research on the medicine and I now pay $17 to purchase the medicine out of pocket without using insurance. People take your time and check things out. I guarantee you will save money.

Love your videos, I like you covered aspects and details often left out on most videos involving container structures. I've been toying with the idea for a while to use containers to create a structure with a high ceiling open area and this particular video swayed me more towards doing it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

Bad to the bone. You thought of things I've never thought of like making a shop/garage in the middle of your home. I made an office back in the 1970's out of shipping containers and before I was done inside everyone said it was a stupid idea now everyone is doing it. When I was done it was great but most people would say well it I'll work for now, or your going to have problems with this or that but I never listen to anyone but myself. I ended up living there for a few years without worry of getting ripped off or fire. I wish I would have kept it but moved out of state. Now I'm working on an idea of a modular home/shop. I love your castle.

Check out the Sea Box site for ideas (you won't want any of their custom containers unless you are rich). Also check out tincancabin which is a very practical structure. When I did my joined 40' High Cube shop I had a power pole placed first with 120 and 240 outlets. My welders live inside my container shop and I installed two welding cable panel-style disconnects through one sidewall. I ground to the shell then run the hot lead where required. A suitcase feeder makes FCAWing the roof joint easy, and you can rent them if you don't own one.

A custom oak door like that can easily get up to 10k, depending on how intricate you want the finish to look. He kept his pretty industrial looking; But its common to see 6k, 8k or even 10k doors on big custom houses I've done. (in Oklahoma)
@expressfashionman895 жыл бұрын
calholli 10k for a door? Thsat's mind blowing, what a fkn scam
@calholli5 жыл бұрын
Yeah... It's like a status symbol in big custom houses. I've put $6k front door on regular 3 bedroom track houses.... But for large, nice custom homes that people would call "mansions"... a $10k door is just the beginning......... In some houses the front room and entry will be 20ft tall to make the house feel very big when you first walk in.. with like the double winding staircase ect. ect..... which i've seen one have a 16ft tall double front door with arched tops, made of heavy iron and steel and had to be hung with a crane.. It was very intricate with a lot of glass in it also.. and it was very heavy to open, felt like gates on a castle or vault doors at a bank... That door costed nearly $30k to be built and installed including sidelights (windows) down both sides..... but you don't see crazy doors like that very often... Some people like to spend their money on a basement or a huge 6 car garage..... and some just want the biggest door and biggest chandelier and dinner table that they can get... All it takes is money. :)

If there's one thing I've learned from you and other youtubers...ALWAYS save the extra, and making friends with other folks in building and construction and getting them to let you know when they have stuff they'll just throw away anyway is THE way to build anything and everything on the cheap. It's not what you know, it's WHO you know... yadda yadda yadda. Throw away nothing, save everything...you'll use it someday or know someone who can use it in the future.

Step 1. Have access to tons of second hand materials like 40' containers for cheap 2. Have access to a large collection of hardware for cheap/free 3. Have access to land that isnt coded till youre broke 4. Have access to free time, aka youre not working 80+hours a week, in order to spend time building this 5. Have the privilege to not be too concerned about how much it cost because it was over time... etc.. It sounds to me like the labor on this was by far the easiest part of this project. There is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, but people seem to not understand Andrew lives a blessed life. He works hard, but he is blessed to be able to do the work he loves and it has a TON of perks. He didnt just goto the store and buy most of this stuff. Its extra from the stuff he is doing, and essentially free.
