Hi, thanks for the video! With my students I usually play the Alibi game but we play it in a different way: At first the groups of suspects go somewhere and prepare their alibi and then they individually answer the investigators' questions. The inverstigator has to ask the same questions. If the suspects give the same answers, they win.
@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
I like that! It's really fun when the investigators try to trap the suspects. It's also possible to place them in different groups so that each group gets a chance to interrogate one suspect at a time. 😃👍

Hi ! Your brilliant ideas greatly wake me up! Thanks a lot! I'll do these in my English classes in Japan! By the way, I have some questions. I'd like to know more about "Alibi" activities. What kind of preparation do I need to do beforehand? Such as the conditions and materials and the likes. :)
@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Riku, thank you for watching. Alibi is great because you don't need any materials. Just tell them that a crime happened last night and you have to find the culprit. 3 or 4 students go outside to work on their alibis while you break the rest of the class into groups. These groups then think of some questions and follow-up questions they could ask. Remind them that they should go around asking questions, otherwise you get one student doing all the intereogation. The alibi students come back into class and take turns being questions by the groups. The groups vote for who the best and worst liars are.

In the beginning I didn't think this would be such a great video, only another boring one, but as soon as you started with the examples, man! this games are so simple so good so fun!!! loved it! thank you for sharing this!! exactly what I was looking for! *About the dessert island game, which I wanna try with my one on one conversational class, what was the purpose of the drawing? sorry I didn't get that part. If they start by drawing anything, then you tell them they are on a desserted island, how do they use the drawing? Thank you so much again :)
@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Margy 😊 Originally the drawing was suppose to be a way for the students to visualize the situation or items, but I didn't edit it the right way. I mentioned before that I have plenty more games and activities to share that I hope you'll find useful. 👍😄
@dingo3346
@dingo3346 3 жыл бұрын
@@etacude I had the same question with Margy. I'm still not sure about your intention after reading your response here though :) However, if I played Deserted Island, I would let students draw their favourite thing (or the most helpful one?). Then I would show them the situation that they were on a deserted island with their favourite/ most helpful thing. They would have to convince the others to keep them alive because of this ownership & how useful their belongings could be in this case. What do you think? P.S: Thank you so much for your sharing, Eric! I've learnt a lot from your videos. 👍

@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Belen! It's definitely workable. Do an example using yourself then give them a couple of minutes to write down their own. Tell them to make it interesting and not to copy their own. Then place them in groups to do it. Remember to let the other members in the group vote. Once everyone is done they come back to the main room and they sjould share something interesting that they have learned from their group mates. 😃

Thank you for your games! I still cannot understand some of them: in the alibi, do you tell any group who is the responsible one, or which one is the correct one to blame? On the other hand, in the desert island, why do they need to draw? are they going to use this object in the island? Thank you again :D
@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
In alibi it's all about who the group thinks the better liar is. So nobody is guilty, but the groups can vote on who they think lies better. But you can change the rules to suit yourself. The survival game pictures were a bit of an accident, I meant to remove them but you can use it as part of the activity. ~ Take the drawings from the students and redistribute them randomly. The students have to argue why they should be picked based on what item they have as a drawing.

@etacude
@etacude 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Quiping! I kind of mixed up the activity. Sometimes you can let students draw a picture of their idem to help them think. But in general it is more about having fun and explaining why they would be useful in an emergency situation like that. 😄 I hope that helps!

It's a variation of the game where you redistribute the pictures and students use whatever is drawn as a reason for them to stay on the island. 😄

Hello there! I LOVE the zombie game idea. I am organizing a pub night for my English school and would like to play this game. I was just wondering if they shake hands at the beginning of their questions, or at the end of their few questions? It seems like it would make more sense to do it at the end, but I wasn't sure so I thought I'd ask. Thank you in advance!
@etacude

I usually tell them anywhere within the conversation. It's better towards the end because other students shouldn't notice and they should try to focus on the conversation too. 😄
