Ethiopia - In the Land of the Emperor, 1930/2012

Күн бұрынA ten minute film about the coronation of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie in 1930, produced by curator Paul Faber of the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, and used in a recent exhibition about a trip to Ethiopia by two Dutch adventurers, Baron Binnert van Harinxma thoe Slooten and biologist Gerrit Brouwer, who happened to be passing through Addis Ababa at the time of the celebration. The footage was drawn from the seventy minutes of original 35mm film shot by Burton Holmes and his cameraman Andre de la Varre and now owned by Archive Farms Inc. When they couldn’t colonize Ethiopia they created a negative image of it and spread it all over the world. This tells a different story of this country. It has always been rich and not lacking anything.

It has very poor water management systems in place hopefully they fix this when the new reservoir is full.

Um are you sure? I was born there. We are lacking alot. I didn't move to the states because for fun. There is a reason. The country is poor and humans existence has always been harsh until recently and that is just in a handful of countries. You dont know what you are saying at all. Stop giving false hope and see reality how it is. Only then can you fix the issue...maybe

Well not really. Ya the guy thought he was untouchable and every one else was just things he could use as he liked. And he did kill a lot of people to be crowned. But still he knew who he was for example he never spoke in a foreign language even when he spoke English & French. And his reform was about making Ethiopia a modern country because before him we had very few contact with the outside world for over 200 years after our civil war aided by Turkey and Portugal. So he trusted the Europeans (BIG MISTAKE) thinking they had good intentions. But hey while he was trying to gather support from the outside world the Ethiopians defended themselves. Never underestimate people.

Insulting one because of a difference in opinion dose not make you smarter or better, degrading a person because of their ethnicity, sex, colour or anything does not make you smarter or better. But from what I gather from your post you are what they call "Yeken Jib" you thrive in creating chaos. Life has continued even though people like you have tried to scramble this country. Please take your hate some were else because we are tired of taking your rubbish. And one last advise go read a book before you comment anything.

Ethiopian constitution 1955 art.4:By virtue of His Imperial Blood, as well as by the anointing wich He has received,the person of the Emperor is SACRED, His dignity is inviolable and His Powers indisputable.He is consequently entitled to all the honors due to Him in accordance with tradition and the present Constitution.Any one so bold as to seek to injure the Emperor will be punished.

@@zawadiyahb.7982 It could be but the way he repeats it and his tone sounds pretty condescending and almost like he wants to paint that image for the viewers regardless of what the reality is. And from grandparents telling me stories of times in Addis during haileselasies rule things were very cheap and no shortage of things. They describe as times of plenty. Maybe not in western standards though.

At the time we wore great & our country was respected ! White people came & Salute for our leaders Bc Ethiopia was a respected great Nation with Iron hand leadership fire for outsiders & strict for inside !! But this time our leaders run here & there to them & begging them ! Why ? Back a hundred years ... do u even realize what ethiopia was like a hundred years prior to this king ? Interms of what r u talking? there were no corruptions at that time so the people r responsible for the economic growth .. u can't blame another person for ur poorness... he literally was a governer .. he governs! doesn't invent money n magically change the country into Europe Learn how China Japan Korean grew in short years out of poverty they ACTUALLY work their ass off..surprised much ?
