I'm Ethiopian and live in the west and i have BESO for breakfast often. My mum send me BESO every 6 months or so. It is a natural healthy drink made from barley and its good for you. In Ethiopia, we don't get all the protein/carb shakes like they do in the west. However, our food is mainly plant based and healthy (no rice, no pasta , no white bread , not a lot of potatoes etc.. which means , unlike the west and the majority of African nations, Ethiopians eat healthy food year after year and that is one secret no one seems to mention. Injera, our breakfast, lunch and dinner is now known in the world as SUPER FOOD for its healthy content. Its not just the high attitude. Its the daily diet! . Ethiopians being one of the ancient civilization understood food and also the fact that you have to eat less to be healthy. I guarantee you, most if not all of those athletes came to training with an empty stomach where as someone in the west would fill themselves up with bad petrol. After training, most will walk home or not eat for at least 2 - 3 hours when they get home. I believe the secret is in what you eat and the portion of it. Eat less and you burn slow. Eat a lot and you burn yourself out. You put ashes onto of a burning charcoal and it will burn for days. You put gas on top of a burning charcoal and it burns high and hard but will die quickly. That is the analogy our forefathers use to teach us consumption. Every time you eat or drink high QUICK carb in your body , you are putting gas on the fire. Great vid.

This is so true! I love Ethiopian food more than any other. It's amazingly tasty but also just feels so so good for you. I found while I was there that I could also love off a lot less food. Instead of 3 meals a day with loads of snacks in between, I was super happy living off just two good meals and an avocado juice in between

You shouldn’t run an empty stomach lol they lucky they are not dying and also you make it seem like carbs and pasta white bread etc is bad for you it’s not. Just depends on the portion and plant based can have negative effects as well. And trust me none of the athletes follow the diet you just said. They are eating a good amount of carbs they will most likely die if they dont
@Luwabi212
@Luwabi212 Жыл бұрын
And also if you eat less your burn faster stop putting false info out there. The less you eat the more you would burn that will be unhelathy because you not allowing your body to burn enough food. If it dosent burn anything you get sick and die.

As Always, awesome stuff.. The drinks bus reminded me of kids grabbing ice creams in the summer. I've always wondered where and how they get all the gear? I'm not sure what they get paid for whatever jobs they do, shoes and clothes are expensive here in Australia ( good apparel anyway ) . Thanks for another killer episode.
@sweatelite
@sweatelite 2 жыл бұрын
That bus scene was incredible to watch, almost laughably so. The coach screaming instructions from the window and all the hands reaching out. Going on for a full 10 mins each time 😂😄 Most of the guys here are full time runners and don't work other jobs, or at the most have a side hustle, but probably nothing serious. Ethiopia has a decent support structure for athletes it seems, far better than the Kenyans. Most of these guys probably run competitively for a local club and will be paid a small salary for that. Gear wise, this group is supported by Nike, and most big groups wi have a sponsor (I also spent time with the Adidas group) but most runners have access to (new) second hand gear which they find in the running community (similar to Kenya)

@@sweatelite Awesome to know. Thanks so much. Sorry for the late reply, I suppose in a way, there wouldn't be any better way to hand out drinks unless they had a small loop where they could take a drink on alternative laps perhaps. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but you'd have to be on top of the game every day.

There seems to be a few benefits They seem to have a fair number of calories, plus a lot of fibre, so I think quite long release and keeps you feeling full for longer. What is the success story behind of Ethiopia's top world athletics secret? Success secret of Ethiopian runners 1) The place where runners practice is very important. Ethiopian runners are very lucky blessed, because they are in higher altitude location than most countries in the world. 2) This is the most important; Runners position must not very comfortable but difficult to practice. When we see runners from other countries It is not a very difficult place they practice, in fact they have made it very comfortable to run. For anyone to get good results in exams or test one should practice in a very difficult place in uncomfortable conditions like desert and in the wilderness area to prepare to get good results in exams. 3) Another secret of Ethiopian runners' success is that they run together or as a team. When we see many countries, they run not for the love of the country, but for the love of money and to become famous in the world. Only Ethiopian runners become famous without running for money. Because they run for patriotism or sport, not to compete for money. This is their big winning secret. They are not greedy athletes and they are not money-minded runners like the rest of the world. Because it is to respect and uphold the emblem of freedom of their country. because of The victorious spirit of their fathers is in their blood, bones and minds.
