Just Planes is thrilled to welcome Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, to our Flight in the Cockpit series! For this film we will fly with Captain Sophie and First Officer Shaima on the Airbus A380 roundtrip from Abu Dhabi to Paris CDG. Each of the ladies will operate one of the flights, explain and present all their work, the aircraft they fly and talk about their career and how they ended up on the A380. The cabin crew will also give you a tour of the absolutely superb cabin including the unique Residence which features a bedroom, the First Apartment, the Bar and more…

As a girl who was raised in the UAE, I can tell how amazing Shima's family is to actually teach their daughter such a discipline in a culture that raises their women to be followers of their men and work in fields that allow them to balance between household and work eg. Teaching or Doctoring. Shima was so lucky to be able to break all the norm, I wish I had such an opportunity. Hats off to the people who raised her, and I hope that more parents in the Arab countries support their daughters like that! I first heard about her when I was really young and dreamed about being a pilot. I didn't have the type of family or citizenship that allowed me to be so (I am Palestinian). . . Anyway, 14 years from that dream, I live in Europe now on my own doing masters in animation, living the ultimate dream of being free. Maybe flying is a dead dream to me now but at least I can live the way I have always wanted. God bless Shima and her family ❤

You can always get a pilot license in smaller aircrafts at any age. You can move up the latter to larger faster airplanes for private exclusive airliners. Don't give up. My grandfather's brother started flying after turning 35 for the airforce cargos. WW2 ended. He was one of the first ANA pilots at a much later age. Every time a new aircraft was purchased, he mastered them all. My maternal side are called Murohara. Any retired Japanese captain will be able to tell you how fascinating he was. You can also be a pilot of science expeditions, UN, major broadcasting projects. Or pilot for island resorts. There's a lot of pilot jobs that are not about airbuses. It's never too late. I am former Telescreen Inc. (Moomin, Calimero) and SEGA Emi TMS Mitaka studio (Spiderman, Poo, Warner Brothers, Lupin III), where Miyazaki worked for a long time. I understand you very well.

God I'm so tired of reading this type of comment pretending to be Arab women and trying to find the slightest pretext to indirectly despise the Arab culture. You pretending to know Shaima since decades but you scratch not one but three times her name in the same message lol it's just a pity that you forgot to mention you hope she will remove her hijab to live the ultimate dream of being free. ❤❤ for all muslim and determinated womens

I agree. Some years ago, I flew with Scandinavian Airlines from Newark (NJ) Liberty International Airport to my native country of Sweden on board an Airbus A330-343 (which the airline will eventually be replacing with the A350-900!!) We had a female captain. I loved it!!

@@vimalnaidu3258 It takes an incredible amount of training and skill and professionalism to manage one of the most complicated bits of machinery ever invented, and get it off the ground and back on the ground without killing a few hundred people. Wondering if you would have made this remark if the pilots had been men. I am guessing not.

As-Salaam Alaikum. It is wonderful to meet 2 AIRBUS A380 lady pilots. I love your A380. As a matter of fact, I just saw one in Stockbridge, GA going to ATL Hartsfield Intl Airport. I just walked out of this building and there it was. A very early birthday present (Aug. 28). I am still smiling. Ladies you are my heroes and Please Stay Safe and May God Bless you.

The A380 is my favourite aircraft, and although it may be assembled in Toulouse France, many of the parts used are made in other parts of the European Union. We can do great things when we work together.
