I was once invited to lunch by an elderly couple. It was our first time meting, but for their so perceived socioeconomic status, I was so irritated how they threw questions at me, when I had food in my mouth. I had to rush my chewing in order to answer, and that wasn't cool. Thanks for addressing the gentlemen too. Well done, uncle Ole. ❤️❤️❤️

💕 FUMI’S ETIQUETTE: TABLE MANNERS, THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO EATING AND BEHAVING LIKE A LADY AT A DINNER TABLE! 💕 1. For Men: Do not lean in or stare at a woman’s cleavage at the dinner table. 2. The gentleman is the host, you should not face only him, but the entire view of the restaurant. He should face only you. 3. Be prepared to be separated from your date to avoid mindless behaviours such as gossiping. 4. Keep your bag on your lap or on the table, NEVER place your bag on the floor. 5. Place your napkin in your lap. You are not Adrian or some other cute baby, so do not tuck it in like a bib. 6. Don’t use your fingers to eat. Regardless of your Country’s traditions. Follow the etiquette of the event you are at. 7. To avoid staining the cutlery and napkin dab your lipstick off, then tuck the napkin in and put it away. Do not rub your lipstick off. 8. Using the soup spoon, take the soup up from the inside to allow the soup to drip back into the bowl or onto the napkin on your lap and not onto your clothing. 9. Graze the soup into your mouth and avoid banging the spoon against your teeth. 10. Speak gently and eat quietly. Don’t slurp the soup or speak in a brawly fashion. 11. Monitor the person’s eating and make your comments or ask questions when their mouth is empty and they can speak comfortably. 12. No elbows on the table except for in between meals. Keep your hands resting on the table in an upward fashion to confirm that they are empty, thus putting others at ease. 13. Accept the seating arrangement and do not attempt to change it for your convenience. 14. Wait until everyone is served before eating. You may eat your hot soup before others are served because it is hot and waiting may cool the soup off. However, when served a salad, wait for everyone’s salad to be served because it is already cold. 15. Break the bread apart and gently spread butter onto each piece and take a bite. Do not dunk the bread into the soup or bite pieces off the roll. 16. Champagne and White Wine Glasses should be held at the stem. Cupping the glass below the flute will heat up the champagne and white wine, changing its taste. Red wine however, may be held cupped above the flute as red wine is served at room temperature. 17. Do not combine the salad with the entrée. 18. Take your fork in your left hand and the knife in your right hand and cut the meat. 19. Do not stab and cut the meat with the fork. 20. Cut bite sized pieces up at a time, placing a small sample of each item on the plate on the back of your fork. 21. Do not drink or talk with food in your mouth. 22. Do not take the glass of water and rinse your mouth. 23. Try the food without adding salt and pepper. Adding salt and pepper communicates to the host that their food is bland. 24. Turn your fork and knife down on the sides of your plate to indicate that you have finished eating. 25. Ask someone to pass the bread basket. Do not reach for the basket. Do not reach for the last bread roll. If there is one roll for each, only take one. DO NOT TAKE A DOGGY BAG FOR YOUR ADRIAN! 😂 🤣 26. Drag your dessert spoon to the right and your fork to the left. Stab your dessert with your fork then use your spoon to scoop up the dessert. 27. Push your cutlery inwards to indicate that you are done. 28. Do not overdrink or become intoxicated. 29. Do not take the decorations from the table as a gift for your home. Please leave them for the host to use for future events. Thanks! 30. For a final touch of class, send flowers or a Thank You text in appreciation for hosting you to a wonderful evening. Thank you Fumi and Ole! 💕 You’re so welcome everyone. 💜

I love these etiquette lessons. I love everything to with social graces. Would you consider a video on what are the best kind of gifts to give for different situations? It is so hard nowadays with people being on various food plans so wine, chocolates, cookies are no longer acceptable. I love getting flowers but I know so many people who don't have vases anymore or want to know all about the supply chain of the flower growers. I am often stumped about what to give. Thank you so much, Fumi.

What i missed learning from my mother, I've learned here with Mother Fumi. I just want to add something here.. I never let the water take my plate if i couldn't finish my food. I always ask to he packed and i donate to the needy right outside the restaurant or to the car guards. It breaks my heart to see food go to waste when are people out there hungry for days in desperate need for what I left on my plate knowing that is going to go into the dustbin when is fresh food. For ya'll that attend to restaurants more often than myself, start implementing this kind gesture too. We never know if by doing so we might end up saving a life. 😢 Thank you and God bless 🙌 All the way from Southern Africa i say hello 👋

Teach Sis! Table manners, graciousness, subtlety - all lost arts. They should be taught in every school at every age. My mother and grandmother were very strict about us learning proper etiquette. Guest would ask why we set a semi-full or full place settings for our daily family dinners. They always replied that manners begin at home.
