30:22 If you do return core on the second vassal the AE will still be reduced to 25% multiplicative. The way the CB works is that any province taken in the demand provinces tab have to be taken by the vassal whose CB you used, and any other vassals go through the return score screen to have the 25% difference. Only works on the primary peace deal.

5:10 I personally think getting independence for free like that is worse than declaring an independence war because when you end the war you'll get 2 allies for free and you get to get all of your cores back during it. Then you have a sea tile connection with Tunis. While the war is going on I was able to get Austria to 150 relations and joined the HRE. So I improved relations with electors and allied for HRE emp. The game can get pretty crazy from there, expanding into North Africa, taking on the Ottomans.

I take a different starting approach in my naples games since I play them the most. I prefer allying burgundy for a shot at the inheritance and picking either hungary or bohemia as my main eastern ally instead of austria since they almost always come to my aid. I wait on going up through italy until after I take all the mediterranean islands under aragon in a single war, since it pulls off a huge amount of territory gain without triggering AE because my only land border neighbor is the pope who likes me.

Only thing I would add for recommendations is to not only stay in the HRE, but to try to become and stay Emperor. Italy’s mission tree requires that the HRE either doesn’t exist or Italy being the Emperor. Not to mention the tax and army benefits of being emperor helps out a lot in the early game. Once that mission is complete you can decide whether or not to stay in the Empire afterwards.

I find not waiting for the event and immediately allying Castile (you can restart if they don't rival Aragon) let's you take Sicily and some Mediterrean islands (naval supremacy), which are a pain to get otherwise. Having Sicily at the start of the game really helps you snowball with income and manpower, then you can go ham on the Balkans and wait for the Italian minors to leave the HRE.

How to play Naples. I prefer to play Naples back when the Normans had started as they were in a stronger position. If I was going to play a small country, I prefer Trebizond or Theodoro. Byzantium is an idea location for a capital, but there is more action going on elsewhere. It is basically boring beyond what the Ottomans achieve going into Austria.

How to play Tunis. I would first got to war against Fezzan to lock out the Mamluks and then go to war against Tlemcen unless Aragon does something stupid. If Aragon or Naples do anything stupid, quickly go to war with them to seize territory. Oncely have conquered the Tlemcen or at least the coastal areas, go to war against Morocco and what you can to box out Spain from taking that area of Africa. Then you go work towards either going to war or diplo-annexing the interior territories while hopefully at this time you can annex all of Southern Italy and the Isles including Corsica and the Balearic Isles. If you have taken Naples, you can proceed to take Venetian territories. I would have the Ottomans as an ally as I am less likely to have issues with them. And I would make Aragon my rival as it is easier to take their lands if they F-up. If conquer across Northern Africa fast enough, I could seize Granada and then push into the Iberian Peninsula which can give opportunity to seize their lands off the Africa Coastline (the Canaries). If I can seize all of Iberia, while progress with colonial adventures into the rest of Africa and the Americas, I can then focus taking territory from the Mamluks if they aren't already seized by someone like the Ottomans, otherwise I would end my alliance with the Ottomans, find someone they don't like (a rival) and ally with them and start seizing their lands, preferably around the Adriatic, Egypt and the Levant. Eventually I can start taking all of Ottoman lands. I may have a coalition against me but I can easily progress in technology and have a large enough garrison in Italy, Spain and the Balkans to make them reconsider anything towards me while I keep getting spoils from my colonies which I prevent any other European power from possessing that way by the time it is the 1700s that I am so far ahead in technology, trade, military and just overall size of my military while doing my best to keep Europe small and decentralized that I can begin to bulldoze over them before the 1800s. I wouldn't be able to conquer the entire world, but I would basically be a World Juggernaut by the time I transition to Victoria 3.

Naples is the best country to form Italy and restore the Roman Empire. You prevent the biggest problem - Castile forming Spain and taking over Naples. In your first couple of wars you get free, take over all Aragon and then temporarily join HRE to expand in the rest of Italy. Once all Italy is yours - leave HRE and start blobbing. Tip: Form Two Sicilies, this removes you from HRE and DOES NOT hinder relations with Austria - a nice ally.

One idirect reason Naples is good is that you don't need to fight Naples that Spain often gets a PU over. Sure you can fight Spain but it slows you down massively. I think declaring independence is better, you get free strong allies and can take a lot of Aragonese clay.
