In this video titled EU4 - What if BOTH ROMAN EMPIRES Existed in 1444? we take a look at what would happen if Both Roman Empires existed in 1444 / what if The Roman Empire and Byzantium existed at the start of EU4. In this video I created both the West and East Roman Empires i.e. The Roman Empire and Byzantium at the time of Roman Emperor Theodosius I when the empire was split for a final time. As you can probably guess this scenario resulted in some pretty funny shenanigans. Obviously you would expect that The Roman Empires would dominate, but did it really turn out that way? This whole run was controlled by the AI only without my interference and it yielded some pretty interesting results to be honest. So, after watching this video you will know what would happen if Both Roman Empires existed in 1444. What is the next "What if" scenario that I should do? Leave a comment below! Suggestion for a future video: 1444 start with Western Roman Empire (rome), Eastern Roman Empire (byzantium), Holy Roman Empire (hre) and Third Roman Empire (russia) and set them all as historical rivals.

If the dev map was in 395, most dev would be in Italy, Greece, Egypt and the area around Carthage, and the east would have more dev

When they split the empire, 80% of the economic power was in the East. Talk about balance, they had to give Carthage to the West as well as much of the Balkans which was the recruiting ground or they were toast. Through a process i don't know, but the Romans claimed was real, at this late stage "recruiting people in the cities for military duty was pointless since they were useless for the tough life of a soldier" And due to massive increase in the power of the aristocrats the fields were tilled by slaves and not roman citizens, and farmers used to be the prime population for recruits, which is why they turned to Mercenaries more and more. This is the only plausible explanation i've heard for the fall since Rome alone had 1 million citizens, 500k men, maybe 200k in military age... and they couldn't recruit and form endless armies like in Republican times?... its fishy, unless the whole recruitment system had broken down.

@@celdur4635 why would you risk hard life as a soldier if you were provided bread and circus as a roman citizen. There was simply no economic reason for them to join the army, same thing happend in the eastern part,

Dear Pablo, Rome had become unsustainable. Too many threats. Too many civil wars. Western Rome tore itself apart. Emperors flew in and out. If you appointed a man to lead a province if he was too good he might overthrow you, too good but loyal you might get overthrown and him placed in charge, too bad and the province falls Western Rome fell into an impossible situation of civil wars and unrest whike their foes grew ever bolder Politics too are responsible for the end of the Byzantine empire, their infinite infighting led to them being weak and susceptible to Ottomaning

1444 Europe with 1914 borders. Make Austria-Hungary just Austria, without the Personal Union, Russia shouldn't have Siberia and the Middle East should have 1914 borders as well, Finland, Tunis, Morocco and Egypt should be vassals of their owners.

Austria-Hungary in 1914 (from 1867 to the disolution of the Austro-Hungarian empire) was a personal union to make people less wanting to revolt because of more autonomy because that was the only way that the Habsburgs were going to be able to rule that area like how in EUIV someone would also release an area as a vasal to not have to deal with as many revolts, so if you wanted 1914 borders it would make more sense with Austria Hungary as a personal union.

If I had to guess about Rome colonizing Siberia, I'd say that an event gave them a core on a war enemy over there. In the peace deal they demanded the core be returned.

when there the british isles aren't colonizing colonial eastern america isn't colonized because the chesepeake trade node only goes to the english channel, so it isn't very attractive to AIs with their trade nodes in other places. It's good to see Iroquois form they are a cool native formable

In this alternate universe, imagining that the Roman Empire is still administrated the way it was before (for some reason), I like to imagine the Eastern portion deals with the affairs on the Mainland while the West deals with the affairs on its colonies -- though both still hold the original lands they do, with Byzantium having a somewhat higher authority (don't ask questions). With this imagination we also ignore the wars that happened between them. This is stupid as hell, I know, but I still can't get it off of my head somehow.

It would be interesting if, in the beginning, you had set the two Roman empires as allies and historical friends (and maybe also given them 100 trust towards each other?) (and maybe also revoked any cores and claims they have on each other?) (and maybe also edit their mission trees so they don't want each others' land?). This would hopefully be good enough to keep them focused outwards, instead of beating each other up.

by giving roman empire 2 provinces you basically gave him all of Mexico, Australia, and Siberia because he probably wouldn't of taken exploration or expansion and maybe Byzantium could of colonized it instead because they did get that pu over Muscovy so they would of gotten siberia most likely but 200 dev isnt nothing byz got kinda trolled in this synario

You should have also reduced development of most of the provinces in the Western Roman Empire, because in the 4th century, most of the west was backwater and the east was generally more developed. That's why the West had more land. The imperial split was roughly equivalent economically for both sides. In 1444, the West would 100% beat the East, since the West can just expand easily into the high-dev but fractured HRE, while the East can only expand into low-dev steppe and desert provinces.

Thats 1 of the main problems of eu4 The dev in western europe in comparison to eastern europe and the middle east is very inaccourate Even with africa Songhai had 10 million inhabitants And mali about 20 at 1500 Morocco 13 million(1600s) Portugal had 1 million England less than 3 Or trade and income wise The middle east had way more trade income than europe And the yearly income of western europe was not better than the east The west should get way later buffs when trade with the new world starts and so on

Trade value is pretty acurate though, the only innacuracy is that it can only be steered into predetermined directions. But majority of the trade income originates in asia.

@@bossenes5020 It's not a problem with EU4. Development isn't supposed to be directly proportional to population without conern with anything else. The map is a fairly good "distribution of power" as it was in 1444. That being said, the dev was completely out of wack for this playthough, but that's because you are bringing entities from a thousand years before into 1444. Ideally, the development would have been rebalanced for whichever year those empires split, which would have resulted in the East being far better off instead. It's not an issue with the game; the game isn't supposed to be played with this context lol.

My best guess for Roman Ob is that Rome at some point ended up rivaled to Oirat and took the ignore coring distance age bonus, went to war with Oirat, and took one province for no reason. Edit: Either that or Oirat or Uzbek at one point got small enough to be vassalized by Rome and then Rome seized land from them and continued colonizing. Edit 2: FINAL GUESS Rome at some point briefly vassalized Transoxiana and colonized off of them into Siberia and then they broke free due to being disconnected. This would also explain Transoxiana's random Catholic province.

Accidently gave roman empire 2 provinces in Siberia. it really hurt in the ;later wars as you see end game with Siberia being occupied. it split the Byzantium forces sending them in the wrong direction. i wonder if that happened in all the wars. something small like that could be devastating. AI has a tendency to focus on sending troops to small enclaves like that.

Luckily, it almost certainly didn't change the result of their conflict in any serious way. With that much dev difference, Western Empire taking slightly better military ideas, and Byzantium's REALLY bad luck with it's capital placement, it didn't do anything. In an ideal world, Byzantium would relocte their capital to the other side of the Bosphorus Straight. If they then managed to maintain ship supremacy by the straight (a lot more possible at least) then it could have had non-negligible changes. Actually, you could even argue that giving the Western Empire interests in the Far East dragged them into a few long and pointless wars where they might otherwise have attacked Byzantium. We don't fully know which way it helped due to the dev increase being a rounding error and not of consequence.

it would be cool if they made a thing where when a big nation annexes a lot of small/ medium countries in a geographic region, the rest of the nations would get an event saying for example spanish threat, and they would have an option to join on a coalition/ offensive war to try and take out the bigger guy. This would be ofset by relation and internal situation of the countries attacking

4th vid of asking for You should do a “What if Islam never took off as a caliphate” and have it so most of Arabia is under an Islam state, but Persia is zoroastrian and still strong, Anatolia is divided up between the Sultanate of Rum, Byzantium, and a few other minors, and that Byzantium still owns greece, Macedonia and Bulgaria, but Egypt is still under islam but in a seperate country from the Caliphate. And also the Levant should have a Cristian Israel and Lebanon, but has a few Turkic ( north and northeast) and islamic (south and southeast) kingdoms surrounding them. One more thing is that the Steppe regions should still be like a tengri faith from the mongols. I think it would be a cool game.

tbh Western Rome developing to be Catholic isn't entirely out landish. Rome is the only patriarch/pentarch outside of the Eastern Empire's borders, so it's possible that Rome would still hold religious supremacy in the west.
