I really like this setup. Never liked storage inside the doorbell itself. Several people in my neighborhood have had their doorbells stolen so they would lose any footage I'm that case. I've been wanting something with local storage that's expandable. I don't like waiting for the Homebase to add USB storage support as you never know when that will actually be available. The price is more attractive also. Wish it was 2k, but video quality doesn't look any worse than Ring doorbells. Really digging this kit. Thanks Lifehackster!!!

I realise this video is a couple of years old. But it is so well made and remains very useful. Thanks for your great work. I bought the Eufy 1080p Video Doorbell and Chime in May 2023. Since you made your video, Eufy have updated their App software. It no longer treats the Chime as a "Homebase". Instead, the Chime is treated as one of its "Accessories". And the Chime only supports connection of a Doorbell (I have 2 other Eufy cameras with local SD cards and since installing the Chime I checked both of them to see if there was an option to redirect the storage of recordings to the Chime - sadly no - and the Chime itself has no option to add other devices - what a shame as I would have taken advantage of that). After unpacking, I found it really hard to remove the rubber flap on the Doorbell USB port. It was sticky and required significant force to unseat. It was useful to watch your video to discover that the rubber flap opened from the right-hand side with a tether on the left. I also found using the "pin" to disconnect the Doorbell from its base was not as simple as you made it look in the video. Firstly, the hole for the pin is hard to see when the Doorbell is installed and secondly, it requires you to "lift and pull" the Doorbell to get it to disconnect from the base (this is not intuitive the first few times you do it). Instructions presented by Eufy during the installation of the Chime could be improved. For example, it could mention things like "wait until the status light is red and is no longer flashing" as the Chime unit takes quite a while to boot after being powered on. Patience is also required to get the "green" light to work. I find that accessing the "Live View" can be unreliable (Cannot connect to Doorbell. (-3)). On recommendation from Eufy support I had to remove and re-install both the Chime and the Doorbell. But the problem persists if I try to access Live View immediately after starting the App. Once I access the Live View on other devices, the Doorbell Live View seems to work. In my case, the Doorbell is facing a covered area which about 4 metres long and, behind which, there is bright sunlight. The resulting camera image shows the face of the person approaching the door in shadow and hard to distinguish. I may need to install a light at the door to fix this issue. Too bad there is no "exposure" setting in the options. Notwithstanding, I am happy with the device and would recommend it.

All the video clips being on the the chime sd card sounds like a better idea. The Blink doorbell not having AI would use up all the storage on my grandfathered account.

I wanted to add that the although the features are great, I was a bit disappointed that the doorbell press did not automatically launch the feed on my Google home nest hub max. We do have a doorbell that is wired but ironically it sometimes doesn't work. I have not been able to determine the issue, so a fully wireless option is very appealing. Great video. There are still a few things I'm a little confused about: 1. I don't think I understand fundamentally what is the difference between this one that is wifi based and the 2k version that is bluetooth based. What are the differences/advantages between being wifi based or bluetooth based? 2. Can you setup multiple chimes? Do I need a homebase to do this? How many chimes can you add to a homebase? 3. Can you use google home hub or amazon dots to act as chimes?

However, when you walked up to your front door and showed "this is what it's like when I'm near the doorbell" and "this is what it's like when I'm at the door", you hadn't made it clear that the wall you have the doorbell mounted on is at quite an angle to the door!!

Was the audio lag between conversations the same as in the Eufy 2K wireless doorbell or has it improved?

On another of your reviews, you mentioned you had a Kuna device alongside the video doorbell. I recently installed a SimpliSafe doorbell, but it is dropped offline when the Kuna porch light/camera starts sending info. Nice review. Is it me or is RING falling behind with features for their doorbells? This has so many feature rich options to choose from. I see RING has just added snapshot to their app but sure many other manufacturers have has this feature on their products for months. I really do think RING is falling behind. What do you think? My battery doorbell is only recording for max 6 or 7 seconds. Ive putt the settings for recording on manuel so it should record up to 120 seconds. But still nothing.. does anyone know what to do?

2 Questions: My car is approx 18ft from my front door. Would you be able to see a person with this camera & will the motion detection be picked up at that footage? Ppls cars have been being vandalized on our street. 2nd, Can you go back & view any part of the day in the history or does it only record when motion is detected? Thank you.

Looks like it starts recording very quickly for you. I have the wireless 2K, and it seems to only pick up motion when a person is very close to it. I think the approach direction isnt ideal for the PIR sensor.

I have just setup this Eufy doorbell and can get it to display OK on a Echo Show 8. However, its takes about 8 - 10 seconds before showing the video. Is there a solution to this ?

Please review the RLC-810A by Reolink. Looks very promising. POE 4K 25FPS 8MP IP66 H.265 Encoding with person/vehicle detection and audio. 100Ft Night detection. Each camera can have up to 256GB Micro SD storage or you can use NVR. Works with Google Assistant. Only 97 Degree viewing angle though. Not sure about the mobile app either. Still only -10 F outdoor temps too. Rumor has it they are working on a new dome PoE RLC-1220A is under the final round of developing and testing. It boasts 12MP Ultra HD (yes, you read it correctly), person/vehicle detection, time-lapse and other great features.

Curious to know is it Better to have the best of each system ex~ Eufy Ring Wyze ETC, or to Have a more uniform system? Asking as a new home owner. All comments are welcome!
