When I was in highschool, I would spend two hours getting ready for school, curling my hair and doing my makeup. It was definitely an obsession and really fed into my insecurities. I wish I had the kind of confidence and skincare knowledge that I have now (shout out to Cassandra) because getting ready/skincare should not be stressful or feel like work.

After my boyfriend broke up with me I stopped doing all of that and focused of my mental health. Because of that people stopped wanting to hang out with me and some guys started spreading bad rumors cause I refused to date them. Not having a social life definitely gets you in trouble in high school. But if you have one they'll also try to ruin it. Thank God it's over...

Wow... we were never allowed with makeup or anything in school in fact our school promoted the concept of skincare, whether boy or girl.. at the most you could be having gloss and transparent nail paint... and i thinK thats why all of us were just tooo comfortable with each other... like I've never in my life heard anyone say anything bad about how someone looks in school.. It's high time teenagers understand that things like acne, blackheads etc. are just tooooo common at that age. Our school mentioned that even with good skincare sometimes it's unpreventable for most considering puberty and it always gets better with age..

I just cried watching Cassie's routine. It brought back memories. I used to wake up 2 hours before school just to get ready and I would plan out my entire week of outfits on Sundays. Gosh I remember those feelings of desperately wanting to be noticed and validated.

The show deals with heavy stuff and it can be pretty dark and shocking at times. Major trigger warning for a variety of subject matter. But it also has amazing cinematography, beautiful moments, and can stretch your heart wide open. I am amazed at the energy and talent the actors (especially Rue) use for their scenes! I hope they all have psychological support for this gig.

Is true, I remember this girl in our group literally drunk soda, pizza, chips, etc everyday and her skin was perfect. Like glass skin! I wouldn’t even sit next to her bc i didn’t want people to notice the difference between my skin and hers. I’m sure she had no idea I was doing this. You never know what girls are thinking around you. Looking back it was so silly. 😕

I’d love to see you make this a series. I think the morning routine of skincare is such a unique gateway to the character’s psyche. For example the methodical placement of everything on American Horror Story or the sneaking around of Mrs. Maisel.

Amazing show and so interesting that you chose this to dive into. And as someone who has bipolar disorder, yes this is absolutely the kind of shit we do when we're manic. When my acne was at its worse I became really really obsessive with my skincare routine. Specific my night routine. I would exfoliate, ice my face, do a clay mask for an hour, toner, moisturizer, topical medication EVERY DAY. That came with an extreme burnout after and only washing my face and wearing sunscreen. Altough my skin did get better. Now I reflect and recognise I was being obsessive with having perfect skin not really healthy skin.

I can totally relate. I used to wake up at 4:30am to get ready for college. Basically all the time spent was on doing my makeup, I tried so hard to cover my scars and acne, I was very insecure, also I've always hated my undereyes, I was so conscious about them. I didn't make much with my hair, all I wanted was a perfect no-makeup makeup look. After some years my skin cleared so much, I just keep fighting with my undereyes. I can totally feel what is like to see in a mirror and don't like what you see

I had a phase in high school wherein I woke up at 5am each morning to wash and style my hair and put on my makeup (like you, I had acne that I was desperate to cover up). But now I realize that good sleep hygiene would have done me and my teenage skin a lot more good! P.S., all that washing and blow-drying wrecked my hair, I had to cut it pretty short after a couple months.

I use my skincare routine as a self-love ritual and i also enjoy using sheet masks during the weekends to pamper my face. My high school routine was... oddly similar to Cassie's. It took me a whole cycle of hating myself and putting on more makeup and hair to feel presentable, through detesting makeup and skincare because of how inadequate I was feeling without it, all the way to getting to a place where I can feel fine with or without it and loving makeup for how it's a tool for me to express myself and how I feel and NOT to hide from the world and blend in.

I love getting up earlier to get ready for the day. I love taking my time with everything I do in the morning, not being in a rush. I actually had never got up earlier if it's not for an event up until I read Crescent City. Yeah, I know, it's kind of lame to get up earlier just because a character in a book does it, but I wanted to try it. And so I tried it, and I liked it very much. The MC, Bryce, is a really strong woman. She gets up early and gets ready for hours for herself. She sees it as taking care of herself. So I basically tried it out, and I fell in love with the routine. I don't do a face mask every morning, I don't do a full face of makeup, but I just take my time with things and don't rush anything.

Cassandra, do try the curling ribbon! It works on curly hair - personally tested. But honestly I wouldn't spend that much money on it... I ordered mine from aliexpress and it works perfectly. Probably mine is covered with some synthetic silk and this one is covered with pure silk, but as far as I get the result that I like, I really don't mind. But have in mind that you'll need some time to get used to it and never use it ot soaking wet hair. Good luck! 💗😘

Cassie, it's an excellent show, I recommend it highly! Someone probably already explained down in the comments (I'm too lazy to look), but the context is that Cassie is sleeping with her best friend Maddy's on again/off again boyfriend. Nate, the boyfriend, pretends that Cassie doesn't exist at school despite Cassie's attempts to get his attention. She not only starts doing the obsessive 4:00 AM beauty routine, but she also starts dressing like Maddy. At this point in the show, Maddy has no idea that Nate and Cassie are screwing around behind her back.

It took me an hour and a half to get ready for school. And this was before I started wearing makeup. And I wasn't trying to impress any guy. It was more programmed into my brain that I had to look perfect everytime I left the house. So I I spent like an 45 mins in the shower and the rest of the time straightening my hair and picking the right combination of uniform for the day.

I can absolutely relate to this!! The obsession, the compulsion and the manic-like behaviors/rituals I can understand because I have done the exact same thing. I used to get up at about 3-4 am sometimes 5-6 am to get ready. I would have a shower, exfoliate, wash my face, then moisturize my face, style my hair when it was wet, I would’ve gelled my hair had I had some laying around. I use to go through different clothes on what I would wear throughout the day, normally going through 3 types of shirts, jeans, shorts, jackets and/or hoodies. I would brush my teeth pretty hard until my teeth would bleed, and wash my mouth out about 6-10 times. Though this wouldn’t happen every day, only If I was going to see the guy I liked.

I used to wake up at 5 to spend a few hours getting ready for work, but it was my quiet relaxy time - I'd get there early and do OOTD/FOTD photos, upload them and just chill at my desk listening to music until my shift started. (It was the only part of my day I enjoyed besides sometimes going out back on break to hang with and pet stray cats.) This was also me for school. Favorite part of school: getting ready, and being home to do the homework. (But my autistic lifelong hyperfocus/special interest is fashion/makeup. In recent years it's bled into skincare!)

I use to get up take a shower and spend 2 to 3 hours grooming, I wasn't ugly needed it, but I did judge myself to the smallest detail. it is EXHAUSTING! being young sucks sometimes!

I used to wake up 2hours before school (grades 9-11) and put on makeup…and then 90% of days I would remove it before going to school. I liked applying makeup, but preferred myself without it on most days. It was a very weird routine 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love that! That super cute and I can relate! It's not the same, but I am Adhd and I would do similar things with clothing. I would spend so much time getting dressed for certain events, but I would try on different outfits. It would take me the longest time to pick an outfit. I would put on the prettiest outfits only to actually wear a plain one!! I still have some beautiful clothes with tags on them! So, I would spend over an hour sometimes longer trying on clothes only to put on the very first outfit I tried on! In order to combat this; I only wear black. I buy the same type of shirts so that when I go to get dressed I don't have such a large option! It sounds like you just love make-up application, and that's amazing that you were dedicated.

@@charissa6648 Actually I can relate to the clothing thing too, though not sure the causes for our habits are the same. Now that I am in Uni and working I have done a thing where I'm also limiting my options, because the amount of choices was overwhelming me - so now, I pick three outfits and wear them for two weeks, switching them only to not wear the same two days in a row. Actually now I am not sure how relatable this is, but reading your reply reminded me of it 😄

@@elinarancane6029 No!! It is relatable! Sounds like the same reasoning to me; too many options just messes up my world too...lol Seriously, having too many choices causes me chaos and takes up my time. I love that you rotate clothing that is so wise and mature! Sounds like you struggle in similar way though I am not sure the cause, but that is also how I train myself. I pre-plan in my mind the night before because if I do not than I waste alot of time. Its like I will be unable to focus!! Also, I cannot do spontaneity, because it will mess me up.

@@charissa6648 I've been eating the same lunch for 8 months now...I can agree with not being able to do spontaneity. I've never actually talked to anyone that has a similair problem/train of thought in regard to clothing etc., its honestly a weird but very nice feeling.

I definitely also keep skincare on my nightstand, but it's more for my body. I have a foot cream and body creams that I keep close by as a reminder. My ADHD makes it a lot harder to stay focused on routines.

Honestly wow, in high school I also had a pretty tight bathing, exfoliating, shaving, moisturizing, skincare, makeup, hair, and dress up routine. I wasn't trying to impress anyone specifically though. I just wanted to look approachable to anyone who'd give me the time of day.
