I do wonder whether he wants to save those weapons (gordon, palmer) for a little later. There is always risk of injuries and yellow cards to these players....look at Gallagher. It's a but cautious but I'm wondering whether he wants to use them when he REALLY needs to and conserve them a bit. I'm not saying it's the best way, just trying to think of an explanation. It's clear they were good and he said in his press conference. So can only think he wants to keep them as fresh as possible

This is exactly what he should do. But it’s guaranteed that Southgate wont bench/rest Bellingham because he’s part of the leadership group and he’s scared what the media will say if they lose. It’s the bold but right move, also bring Cole Palmer in early if either Foden or Saka are not performing. Take Kane out early also if he’s leggy and playing tired. Just be brave Southgate!

Too many ex players having a opinion including the English Media. Manager is forced into making stupid tactical decisions that hurts the team. For example: Kobie maino was a certainty to start the beginning of the Euros then we had players like Paul Ince came out stating that the boy is inexperienced and it would hurt the boy and the team if he started. The Media ran with that narrative and other pundits hopped on the bandwagon and Maino didn't start. English media and English pundits are the National football - men's team biggest enemy!

LOL Trippier’s been carrying a calf issue and Southgate didn’t use the final group game to give Gomez and Konsa minutes to bed in. If he doesn’t pick up a big injury while the tournament is ongoing, he will in the first few weeks of Newcastle’s season. Great player management.

People need to understand some players will be more effective coming off the bench then starting. Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon are better as an impact subs in this England team. Put them on about 65-70 mins in and give the full back something different to think about. It’s part of management

It's a simple fix. Play Bellingham at No.8 (his preferred position) alongside Rice, which will, in turn, allow Foden to play in his No.10 role. Finally, play Gordon on the left and either Saka or Palmer on the right. It really isn't difficult

Southgate has to start with Luke Shaw, and see how it goes. If he brings him on in second half and he isn’t fit then he has to come off and it will be 2 substitutes instead of one

Just cause they are both good players, does not mean they SHOULD be playing together. They basically are on top of each other and unless Southgate changes the system, it’s not working. But that partnership with Rice in 2021 was solid and we got to the final. The key is CONSISTENCY. At the moment we don't have consistency. Same in defence, it was so solid and consistent in 2021. I'm not sure we're as strong as the Euro 2021 squad to be honest. I watched highlights again on England v Germany, and with the likes of grealish, Sterling, rashford and a fit kane...it was a great England team
