Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

Good for you but I hate evs so yes it's boring to me. No sound no transmission... it's not car it's like a computer..also the megane is supposed to be a sport hatchback now its a fucking suv.. massive disappointment 😞

@@georgezoitakis Thats your personal opinion and i respect that. I just like the simplicity and responsiveness of a electric drivetrain. Also its not looking like an SUV. Its rather low and streched. I think a crossover hatchback fits quite well.

Zoe wasn't an embarrassment, it's a 2013 car that, same safety, the tests are just evolving, what was 5 starts in 2013 are now 1 in 2022

@@wilsonwise so it's ok if a 2021 car uses 2013 standards? I'm not an expert but from 5 stars to 0, cmon. It can't be solely on tests fault, if I recall correctly there was some airbag(s) missing etc. Many other cars scored full 5 stars that year including this new Megane now on 2022, which is excellent.

@@chronoparticle The car is outdated but still safe, in 2013 was safe, why wouldn't it be now? 😅 They just invent new safety equipment, after 8 years the new megane won't be safe no more.

@@chronoparticle Dude. It is just a 2013 car with a new look. OF COURSE THEY WOULDN'T MAKE CHANGES TO THE SECURITY AS IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO THE POINT MAKING A NEW CAR WOULD BE FASTER AND CHEAPER. But oh wait, isn't the 2021 Zoe a transition to wait for the new Renault 5 ? DUUUUH

@@stephen10. it literally got zero stars. That's embarrassing If Renault added standard aeb and lane assist, belt pre tensioners and load limiters (which they actually had in 2011 but later removed) in the back seat, the car would definitely get at least 3-4 stars.

That is true, wennever I take a walk through the city I sometimes stand in front of parkd cars and see were it wold hit me. The SUVs wold almost allways hit me in the chest and head, while smaller cars in the legs and hips. I prefer to be hit by the latter

A typical problem of almost all French cars - in the event of a partial front impact, they cannot activate the side and window airbags. Even some chine cars can do it :-)

It's same like C5 Aircross, in it's name is "Megane" but there is no Megane anymore, not R.S. version, statewagon and hatch. It was one of the biggest players in compacts but Renault will loose many customers who were buying Megane from generations. And it's only electric...

It actually has about the same dimensions as the ICE Megane. It only looks like a crossover, it isn’t one.

It is taller than the old Megane ICE because of the full floor battery and rear seats with decent sitting height. Renault used a slim battery only 11 cm thickness. However I wish they had made it 5 cm longer, for more space at rear seats.

It's not a crossover, and there's more space inside of it than in its predecessor while being shorter. Ordered it today because the entire car is pretty convincing once you drive it.

Raise speed to 80km/h and than test. Lots of them will fail.. who is driving 50km per h??

A car can only do so much to mitigate the G-forces while keeping the occupants safe. In order to safeguard every occupant at 80km\h, you'd have to over-engineer the cars so much that they would cost significantly more and impact fuel economy and brakelength due to increased weight, and even that doesnt save you from the extreme g-forces that applies at those speeds. Cars are also built with crumplezones in order to soften the blow, while keeping the structure fairly intact. The problem with designing a car for 80km\h safety is that you will most likely sacrifice some impact-softening measues at lower speeds in order to keep the car rigid enough for those highspeed impacts. And it still wont be enough to deal with the extreme g-forces your body has to deal with when decelerating from 80km\h to 0 in a split second, and thats what usually destroys your body, both externally and internally. Also, most people get a split second of braketime before impacts, which usually lower their speed from 80km\h to say, 40-60km\h, which is why most cars are built like this. In the end, its almost impossible to build a car for every possible accident and speed, while keeping costs, weight and fuel economy down.

@@petarst Thats just a rumor thats been going around, a quite popular one at that. Plenty of people have died driving a Volvo, from various reasons. That being said, Volvo are very safe cars, class-leading in some cases. I believe the XC90 is a model that really stands out, but they are not miles ahead of the others like they used to be 20-50 years ago as most reputable automakers have caught up these days. This car is a good example of that, falling just short of the new Volvo C40 on the scores. German brands like BMW, Mercedes and Audi are all in the same-ish league as Volvo these days, with excellent ratings for most of their cars in the 2010's and onwards, and they are not alone. Even cheaper cars are very safe these days. There is so much more to a crash than just speed as well. Mass also plays a big role, where the lighter car will be subjected to far more stress and g-forces than a semitruck in a headon collision, and most cars, even a 5 star Volvo wont come out of that without serious injuries to the occupants. Occupant safety has kind of plateaued a bit lately as theres only so much you can do for the people inside the car, which is why you're seeing this immense focus on accident preventing measures these days, some which you can see during these tests. Also, keep in mind that Euro NCAP keeps pushing the standards forward all the time. A car that got 5 stars 4-6 years ago will probably only get 3-4 stars today.

@@petarst I've seen plenty of them, who didn't survive in a Volvo. Especially in the older ones. The tough, massive front crumpled the passenger compartment or simply the G-forces killed them. Only the "newer" ones are that safe. But don't think that, let's say a Renault Talisman is less safe than them or a Mercedes CLS. They're being tested the same way and they all get 5 stars.

Yes the market wants crossover models. They are popular. Many older or overweight people find them easier to step in and put of. Also easier to lift a child in and out of a child seat.

Actually renault megane scores 317/400 while the 2022 VW Polo scores 314/400 So the megane is actually safer
