it was an interesting comment, re using lighter flys to target the more active fish first. I had never thought of that. I have always just aimed to "tick" the bottom every few casts, to give me confidence I am " in the zone."

Always impressed at how big your fish are over there. I have a question: I don’t hear basically any talk from educational channels about using indicators with micro/spanish leaders. People talk about it occasionally with heavier 20lb-ish mono rigs but not with the light stuff. I understand that it’s not comp legal but it’s been such a successful technique for me for a lot of years because of the ability to keep line of the water at pretty long distance. Sometimes it’s just a better way to get a good drift if you can’t wade over far enough. Do you ever use a yarn indie or bobber in certain situations with 3/4/5x level leaders?

Adding an indi to the micro leader has been really good for me on windy days

I haven’t spent much time experimenting with it, though I can see how it might be useful in a scenario with high winds although usually I would fish with a dry dropper in that sort of situation or add a little more weight if I wanted to keep nymphing. However in terms of using an indictor on the level leader to fish further away I would normally rely on technique to cast light nymphs at distance without changing the leader or adding an indicator - I don’t really like the idea of having something tethering my flies to the faster surface currents as it will likely cause drag unless the current flow is very laminar and I was trying to suspend the nymphs.

Not crazy thin, I was using 0.18mm level line. It depends on the situation

@@N_Co_Fish Not quite. Not really fly fishing unless casting upstream to rising trout. Anything else is some kind of worm fishing.
