Have you heard about the Eurocrime genre and are intrigued but have no idea on where to start? Then this video is for you.
Have you seen one or two films and would like more recommendations? This video is for you also.
These are some of my favorites in the genre and i feel they would represent a nice entry point for new fans.
Enjoy!

Mistake correction: I mistakenly mention Umberto Lenzi being the director of Cannibal Holocaust in this video… obviously i meant Cannibal Ferox. However: the director of Cannibal Holocaust (Ruggero Deodato) did also make a great Eurocrime film: “Live like a cop! Die like a man!” . In any case, i stand corrected on the slip of the tongue made in the video 😂

Cheers Scott, glad you enjoyed the video my friend. Yeah that livestream was truly one of the best I’ve ever been on, had a amazing time on it. We definitely have to do it again sometime haha 😎👍. Yeah definitely try and check those ones out and also “Almost Human” which is a really great film also, I actually watched “The Italian connection” again last night and the car chase in it is without doubt one of the best I’ve ever seen, I know you would definitely love that one. And “Violent City” well it’s Bronson and Savalas, and also starts with a amazing car chase. You can’t go wrong with it. 👍

Thanks Jason, you are really to thank for this one since you sparked the little discussion on the genre during the stream last Monday. Glad you enjoyed the video mate, i absolutely love these films and the genre. So many great kick-ass movies that easily rival their American counterparts for me. Just wish we would get more of them released cuz many still haven’t even gotten a dvd release yet sadly, let alone blu ray. Anyway cheers for watching and the inspiration my friend! 😎👍🤜🤛

Excellent video Jeff, a stellar way to introduce new people to the Euro Crime/Poliziotteschi genre. I have every film you recommended in the video in my collection, and lots more, except for Revolver, which I still need to pick up a copy of. Almost Human is an excellent example of the genre, but I find it a very hard film to watch as Tomas Milian's character Giulio Sacchi is such a monster with no redeemable qualities whatsoever. The violence itself isn't all that shocking, it's the Sacchi character makes it frightening to see. The ending is really satisfying because of all that. Umberto Lenzi is the king filmmaker of the genre to me, he did so many fantastic and fun entries, I don't think he ever made a bad one to be honest. I have both the Grindhouse Releasing and 88 Films editions of The Tough Ones aka Rome Armed to the Teeth, which is my favorite Euro Crime actually because the two heavyweight actors of the genre, Tomas Milian and Maurizio Merli, were in it together. Unfortunately, Merli ended up butting heads with Milian and a full-on fight nearly broke out between them and neither wanted to be in the same room with the other afterwards. Merli's other films are worth seeking out too. High Crime is a very good early entry in the Euro Crime genre. It's a little more plot and character oriented than some of the later films, but still a compelling and thrilling flick. 88 Films is putting out Street Law in the UK next month, which I'll be picking up, looking forward to checking that one out. Enzo G. Castellari is 2nd to Lenzi in the genre as a writer-director. I had the Fernando Di Leo set on Raro DVD years ago, but every disc with the exception of Mr. Scarface had all sorts of issues on them and I eventually switched to the UK Blu Ray of Caliber 9 and the German Blu Ray of The Boss, though I will upgrade to the UK Blu Ray coming out in April. Di Leo makes out the Trifecta of Euro Crime's great filmmakers, though his entries in the 80's were kind of bleh. Take care my friend, hope you're well, and speak to you soon.

Thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed the video on this great genre my friend. I somehow suspected you would have seen all these films, but then again I made the video as a starter’s guide haha. Yeah i see what you mean about “Almost Human” , Tomas Milian absolutely killed it in that role, probably my favorite role of his to be fair. But yeah that character is definitely a unredeemable P.O.S , but just love the way Milian played it. That’s what makes it watchable for me. Compared to other euro crimes the violence ain’t too bad (“Ricco mean machine” or “Violence for kicks” it ain’t) but still pretty gruesome at times. Yeah Umberto Lenzi is a definitive legend of this genre, just wish some of his other films like “Violent Naples” would just get released already. Definitely always delivered a great politzio and had a great eye for exciting action scenes. “Rome armed to the teeth” is absolutely amazing, definitely top 5 for me. Yeah Merli & Milian definitely didn’t get on, and I think for their other film together “The cynic, the rat and the fist” they shot their scenes separately because they couldn’t stand each other. “High Crime” & “Street law” are definitely fine entry’s in the genre, you can’t go wrong with Franco Nero. And Castellari did a superb job directing both of them. Actually didn’t know 88 was bringing out Street law, i might get that if it’s a special edition and new transfer. I haven’t experienced any issues with the Raro set myself, but do want to upgrade those to blu ray since the films are so good. Already have the Arrow release of Caliber 9, but definitely would love a blu ray of The Boss and Italian connection. Fernando Di Leo definitely another master of the genre, it’s tough to call who i like the best to be fair cuz all three (Lenzi, Castellari & Di Leo) made some absolute bangers in the genre. Thanks for watching and commenting as always buddy, appreciate it. Saturday my Spaghetti western video in similar vain to this one will be uploaded which I’m sure you’ll enjoy as well, and just like with this one I know for a fact you’ll be more than familiar with the films talked about there. Take care! 😎👍💪💪

Hi Jeff, A great idea for a video of a forgotten movie sub genre, the Euro crime movies I have watched & have in my collection I’ve enjoyed but still need to watch more of them. The Italians were known for copying & duplicating popular movie genres at the time in America after world war 2 to pack the cinema’s & theatres over there. And there versions & takes of movies such as “Bullitt, “Dirty Harry” “The French connection” “The Godfather” & “Death wish” are highly entertaining, violent with a slice of comedy unintended 😮😂. “Almost human” I recommended to a certain person 🤔but is a great one & my choice for anybody to try the genre, the Umberto Lenzi ones are my favourites & Merli would be fav actor from the genre. And we have to thank labels like Raro video, Arrow video, Eureka & a few from Germany that these forgotten movies get the lavish treatment. Great work Jeff in this starter guide to the community 😎👍

Cheers Carlos, yeah the Eurocrim genre has some absolute gems to offer for sure. Hope this video will help people get into them a bit more. I also still need to watch many more of them but unfortunately many of them haven’t yet seen the light of day in terms of official English friendly releases. Yeah the Italians were very Fad oriented, once a film in one genre became successful they would crank out as many similar films as they possibly could till the genre ran out of steam. Definitely they took influence from the American crime films at the time and honestly quite a few of the euro crime films do rival their American counterparts for me. 😂😂 yes you are correct! Haha you were the one that did recommend “Almost Human” to yours truly which definitely started my deep dive into the genre and got me hooked. Cheer for that haha 😂👍. Definitely can’t go wrong with anything by Lenzi and starring Milian that’s for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video buddy, will look forward to eventually seeing your Eurocrime collection when you get around to it. Take care & speak soon! 😎👍🤜🤛💪💪

Great video of a great genre, love it. One of my guilty pleasures that's never talked about much, is Meet Him and Die (1976) with Ray Lovelock and Martin Balsam. Some Lenzi faves; Gang War in Milan (1973), Syndicate Sadists (1975) and The Cynic, the Rat & the Fist (1977). Also like Eye of the Spider (1971), Cold Eyes of Fear (1971) and The Last Round (1976) to throw in a few more.

Hi Jeff Great recommendations their mate. One i would recommend is lucio fulci contraband(1980) Great euro crime and very violent. A very underrated lucio fulci film. He did not make anymore Euro crime films but he made a great one. Get the uncut version. 😊

Cheers mate, yeah there are some absolute bangers in this genre for sure. Yeah that Fulci one is one I’ve been meaning to check out, I’m familiar with it’s high level of violence which really makes me want to check it out. Plus it’s got Fabio Testi who has been in some of the best Euro cult films. 😎👍

No The Sweeney, Where are the British films?
@101Bronson
@101Bronson 7 ай бұрын
Nope sadly no British films/productions, the Eurocrime genre refers to pretty much just Italian crime films/productions only. Italo-Crime would’ve made more sense as a name for the genre actually come to think of it lol 😂
