On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

BTW I totes shared your emotional state during the cat and mouse game. Plus...great long form story vs the merge going 5 rounds. Novel vs short story. Richness.

That eurofighter was absolutely cooking towards the end with that fly over clip.. sonic boom was what felt like seconds after the jet passed! Impressive

2 German EF2000 were scrambled just a few days ago to intercept a dutch passenger plane that lost communications for about half an hour. Pilots were able to communicate with the fighter pilots via hand signs and no one got hurt, except for apparently some burst windows when the EF2000 went supersonic over some residential areas.

Yeah, some people here really got mad about it. They dont know what it means if a plane lost or kill the communication, i think, after 9/11 we should be more aware of situations like this. To go supersonic isnt cummon anymore in germany.

Similar happened in Italy 2 years ago , the couple scrambled over a civil Airbus that have lost transponder signal up the Swiss Alps , but they was SO LOW in the first part of their route that they've destroyed buildings glasses , even in schools full of students. I was outside my house lookin at my mailbox , and i literally got my teeth shaked by a double sonic boom , really devastating , i'm pretty sure they was at Mach 2+ . What an experience LUL

Typhoon is a very capable opponent. I actually thought the F-16 would fare somewhat better than it did but, that Typhoon radar is just so much more powerful.

Loving the BVR! I think it might be interesting to see some more without AWACS coverage, especially if it was a 4th gen against stealth (maybe f15vf22, or 2xf15vf22) to see how much the stealth interferes with situational awareness of a bandit that has no AWACS

I’ve been watching GS for like 2 1/2-3 years now. This is the first video I’ve ever see where he never had an advantage the entire fight (mostly due to the radar) but still he usually finds a way to somehow get a shot. Good stuff to the other pilot playing that perfectly

Fun fact. Today I saw an overflight formation of three F-35's, followed closely by two F-16's, followed by two F-15's. All at roughly 2000ft. Close enough to see drop tanks, but surprisingly also wingtip Sidewinders on the Vipers and other ordnance on the Eagles. Probably just some ferry flight or training exercise, but interesting nonetheless. Lot of capability in that seven ship formation. More than some small countries entire air forces. And it was freaking loud...

I'd love to learn more about the defensive systems of the Eurofighter, all i know is while not stealth it was designed to minimize RCS and had for the time the most advanced defensive systems and jamming yada yada... so i wonder if all that is giving it the advantage in this fight.

Without getting too deep into the physics and speculate about stuff we don't know. There are stuff on the aircraft that can detect incoming radar wave, do quick math, generate its own radar wave that cancel out the returning radar wave.

as powerful as fifth gen fighters are with their stealth, i think the eurofighter is just as scary. the radar, the number of hardpoints, the thrust to weight, and it arguable the best delta wing dog fighter out of its other european peers.

It's radar would be nullified by the stealth fighters though. BVR it would be defenseless against and F22 or F35. Dogfight is probably a different story.

I haven't been a huge fighter guy since high school. My favorite book as a kid though severely criticized the radar in the F-16 and it's always surprised me when you do BVR with the F-16.

Absolutely love your videos GS. I’m a huge F16 fan and a Eurofighter fan too. Crazy to see the BVR differences between the aircraft and the missiles. Personally, I feel like I’ve had problems recently with the F16’s FCR and it’s ability to lock both in RWS and TWS, and I’ve noticed you have the same problem in the last few F16 based videos you’ve put out. Is this something you’ve noticed yourself or is it pretty normal? Personally I feel it is a little bit bugged maybe as I’m sure the F16 could pretty reliably lock target 30-40 miles? I now often can’t lock anything until sub-20 miles, with RWR missile launch warnings blaring away while i frantically try to get a lock, and I consider myself pretty handy with the radar, both in isolation and combined with Datalink in a variety of different terrains and opposing aircraft. Would be cool to get your thoughts, or anyone else’s for that matter? Maybe I’m just losing my touch!

Maybe somebody here knows, but what was the reason why the United States doesn't seem to have spent significant time developing an advanced long-range missile (like the Meteor) until recently, while the EU did? Because an F-22 launching a 120D from high altitude at Mach 1.5+ is going to have similar standoff as Meteor and certainly more standoff than anyone have detection radius on the other side. AMRAAM has better off the rail kinetics, is lighter, and likely has a slightly lower drag penalty. U.S. had the first fielded ducted ramjet and also has literally tens of long range air to air platforms it has developed. Clearly, the overall performance from AIM-120 variants has been satisfactory.

Whatever the reason, the US now has several missiles in development (with the AIM 260 supposedly close to being operational). The Chinese long range missiles seem to have been the wake up call.

I have him on datalink, so I knew the range, and I wouldn't have been blind sided by them because we assume missile launches because you know the other guy has TWS capability, this is why we don't wait for RWR to defend, we assume missile launches based on range to bandit. Also RWS provides a much more accurate track/lock then TWS and is much harder to defeat the lock.

If memory serves, the typhoon is a 4.5 gen hyper manoeuvrable non TV reduced radar cross section single seater... not a raptor by any means and said to be the honey badger of the nonTV fighters, if the F16 is the wolverine.

The EF 2000 is in every way more than a match for a 4th-gen SEAD fighter, and was designed as a match for the MiG-29, and as a challenge to the Su-27. Seems DCS got that pretty much bang on.
