In most European countries, the basketball teams are associated to football clubs. The fan base or ultras will support and turn out to pretty much 100% of all games and chant for hours before and after games! It doesn't matter what sport it is to them, they support the club and the clubs name.

In Europe we chant no matter what, the score doesn't matter for us to chant. Of course we want our team to do good, but we support them no matter how they play and no matter in what division they play in. European fan culture is more than just support on gamedays, it's a way of life.

I walked to the bars and restaurants in the other direction, of course. Late at night, rival Greek fan club headquarters get Molotov cocktailed, routinely. Despite growing up in the Bronx and Manhattan during the '60s and '70s, I never had the guts to go to a soccer game. As for playing B-ball in Europe, all the guys who played in Europe, Eastern Europe, Turkey, Israel, etc., say playing in front of US crowds is a breeze. And what they are chanting, you can't repeat. And it's so loud, their coaches can't even yell out the game plan in the underground locker room before going out to play. I did go to a basketball game: it was UNBELIEVABLE.

In the USA it feels like being in a tourist village before the aperitif game. But it is right to underline that although in general throughout Europe there are atmospheres similar to this one, in basketball the fans in absolute and far above the others are found precisely between the Balkans and Greece ..... powder keg, much respect from an Italian.

Speaking from first hand experience, I've been to the wildest red star games, 3rd team in the video. Normally it's pretty safe, alot of people come with kids, most of the time there is 1 part of the arena where it's insane and even there I've seen people get into like fights, but it's generally pretty safe. Other parts of arena, it's really ok. But when you are there, game is really secondary, the atmosphere, the support to the team and the way the crowd reacts to every play in the game is priceless. Plus in the videos are mostly either older or from national leagues, Euroleague has really come down on teams and banned all sorts of torches, fireworks, clear exits is a big deal for them to make games safer and they have been relentless, punishing teams with big fines. Flags are still a big yes, also they can never take away peoples passion, their will to sing, etc. Can't wait for covid bs to end so I can enjoy some games

But the best part was watching visiting players I swear some of them were shitig their pants ...trying to look cool but their body language....man some of them were terrified

The european games are much more fun. I bring my son along to Icehockey games which are very similar since he is 4 years old. Just let all the stress and anger from the week out. If you going home your voice is gone but you had a great time together with others. And between the fans (as long as it is not soccer) it is usually very peaceful and you have a few drinks before and after the game. Man I miss it at the moment! :(
