1st of August 1291, Switzerland was founded by three Swiss guys on the Rütliwiese, and so the first three cantons Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden were founded. Actually we only know it was in the beginning of August, we don't know the exact date. Welcome to Switzerland!

It's called the type J plug, used only in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Type C cell phone chargers usually fit, but Schuko won't. You might encounter a problem or two with Schuko on Italy as well, since the predominant plug is the type L, but usually there's a Schuko somewhere in the room.

@@richard--s Hehe he should watch Geography Now. Barbs said about Liechtenstein: "They use the Swiss Franc as their currency, the type J plug style outlet, and they drive on the right side of the road". And then he went on to say that he had big troubles with his type C adapter in Switzerland because of the hexagonal shape of the plugs 😁.

I would suggest always charging in a hotel that has a charger so that they see it being used. And always ask for a charging spot even if you know that there isn't one. And yes, no Schuko in Switzerland! The adapter is not particularly safe with a Schuko that actually has PE as the PE does not connect to the actual socket. So it would not work to charge a car as that would check whether there is an earth (although maybe not the Norwegian UMC due to TT, not sure).

Welcome to Switzerland! Whilst you’re here you should try and get to Interlaken/Lauterbraunnen for an amazing view. And definitely through the Furka pass for one of the most amazing roads I’ve ever been on. The model 3 is actually perfect for that road! If you’re heading down into Italy afterwards towards lake como, there are fewer chargers, epic scenery and I have crowds of people taking photos with my model 3 as there aren’t a lot of them here which is crazy

Swiss type J sockets / plugs are actually somewhat better than SCHUKO or French style (type E and F). It is polarised, grounded, supports Europlug, has sleeved L/N pins and recessed sockets and they are much more compact as You have seen on triple socket on the wall, which would be OK only for two SCHUKO / French style sockets. The only drawback is majority of those sockets are limited to 10 A (16 A is rare), while SCHUKO or French style can carry 10 A permanently and 16 A for short time periods

Although it was brief it was good that you told your wife to not recline her seat. Medically this is called submarining. It’s when people slide underneath their seatbelt and break their hips in a crash. It’s good to see Police actually inforce that kind of thing which would indicate they care about your safety. I can’t imagine that happening in America. But I wish it would.

Avoid the Gotthard road tunnel during summer (more or less constant jam). There are some places in Eastern Switzerland without any foreign tourist like Glarus. Also the Jura mountains are quite tourists free, and very nice. To save money: Take the biggest meal at lunch. Many restaurant offer lunch offers, where you can get a full meal for 15-20 CHF, specially on the country side.
