Ukraine knows Russia would just abuse a ceasefire to re-constitute their military formations, re-arm themselves, and renew their attack on Ukraine when they feel ready. They would also dig in and build more defenses along the current front lines. Ukraine will negotiate peace in the absence of a ceasefire.

It is always up to Zelensky to agree but as Anglo-American politics would have it, it seems to come to naught, always! Orban's visit is nothing more than a '"pro-forma' diplomatic mission from EU" . After all, Hungary has a seat there (EU) and it is expected that it has to be driven to Kyiv while Ukraine still exists 'de jure'. Orban's visit is simply another exercise in futility, just like the laughable Swiss Peace Summit and other fancy conferences that amount to nothing! It's a free ride for presidents and prime ministers to visit another country, have a sleepover, and come home to detox. We're living in a sad world at the moment.

Orban is not completely isolated. His position is partly shared by the leaders of Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Italy's Giorgia Meloni and certainly Le Pen and Bardella if they form a government in France. They all want a ceasefire and a compromise with Russia.
