Orban was speaking during his first visit to Kyiv since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine needed a 'just peace' and called on Europe to maintain the supply of military aid to his country.
Viktor Orban's visit was also his first foreign trip since Hungary assumed the EU's rotating presidency on Monday.

What we have is great. We own a lot of our rights to EU, our power of negotiation against big companies, our trade power, even rights like returning the products you buy and being paid if they cancel your flight they are all EU. The safety standards in the products that you buy from electronics to food, they are all eu and they have been attained through the power of negotiation. @@wojteks4712 Russia did not threaten Europe until Ukraine wanted to join NATO, an anti Russian military allliance which stations US nukes in it's member states which would Ukraine if they were accepted into the alliance. Russia doesn't want nukes this close to it's borders, just like the USA didn't want Soviet nukes in Cuba (Cuban missile crisis).

The unity of the EU has been shattered by the EU weaponizing the EU budget and legal apparatus against national electorates that dared to vote in an "incorrect" manner. It already achieved regime change in Poland in this manner, threatened Italy with the same, and Hungary is holding on by reaching out outside of the EU. Curious to see what they will do if France votes "incorrectly".

well, It looks like Viktor Orban is attempting to help both Ukraine and Europe simultaneously. He could potentially play a key role in negotiating peace in Europe by engaging with Putin and other NATO members. If he can facilitate discussions between them, he might just be able to bring about peace.

I'm glad that the EU can only decide based on consensus & not at the whims of Orban. Conceding those Russian occupied areas in Ukraine in exchange of ceasefire would be inviting Putin to continue on with the annexations & that bogus referendum conducted outside of Russian jurisdictions.

It is paradoxical to note that Viktor Orban opposes immigration on the grounds of incompatible values and incapacity to adapt to one's country's values. Yet he himself rejects the values of the European Union, of which his country is now a member, in contradiction with the rules of the game it accepted then, when it joined that club. Today's Hungary is all about "do as I say, not as I do". Out.

Hungary is the only country capable of creating peace in Ukraine and Europe. We all know what Russia wants in Ukraine, and they don want any piece of Ukraine, but they will take a half or all of Ukraine if Ukraine wants to be a satellite country for the US and NATO. Hungary understands very well these dynamics and they are able to assure allay Russia's fears, just as the last leader of Germany did. Unfortunately, European countries are led by people who are not old enough to understand several things in history and how Russia works, and that's why we ended up here. The Ukraine war would have started a long time ago, at least 20 years ago, as far as Russia had been warning of NATO expansion. But Russia has been patient and understanding. It was the build up of American troops and NATO troops and war games in Ukraine that led to the war. 1963 Cuban missile crisis is the exact useful solution for ukraine, and the Hungarian leader knows that. The Americans don want that coz they want war in Europe coz it creates jobs in America and makes America rich from sales of nato-grade weapons.

The EU is not a monolith. The EU as an organization is more or less just a framework which a member state (or a region) may or may not be able to make good use of. Some are thriving, some not that much. I think those countries and societies that are ecologically-minded thrive quite to a large extent..

@@Joey-ct8bmyes and as a consequence the EU is bending over to take it from behind with no lube. The EU has no resolve it’s just a meaningless talking shop. The Ukraine conflict shows how utterly useless it is and how incompetent the EU leaders are. Sanctions on Russia but still buying 20% of its lng directly from Russia and buying Russian imported oil via india.

So DW is now taking side? How about another headline that says... "How much damage has Zelensky done to Europe, especially Germany ?" For DW's information, Europe is in the grasp of the far-right, and it has much to do with the fact that the EU fell in line behind the US on everything. No Macron may be drastically weakened, and Olaf Scholz may face the same fate as Macron does.

The winds of change are palpable now…Orban came to America to speak directly and exclusively with Trump, and I’m sure, he maintains a live line of communication with Russia, now he’s executing what was verbally agreed between Putin and the president to be, Trump. Contrary to popular belief, Ukraine is the least “popular” topic here in America, and Trump will make that clear if he becomes the next president, and despite what this disgruntled profesor says, Orban is the only rational actor in the EU and probably NATO…and if you’re wondering, the jester Zelensky will do as he’s told
