I just came back from my first 2 week European trip. We landed in Paris, then went to Prague, then Venice and ended in Rome. It was an amazing trip! We especially loved Prague, you cannot skip this amazing city - most beautiful city we've been to.

FunnyRandomVids that was a while back, but I wanna say the whole trip including flights / accommodations was roughly $5,500 CAD for the two of us... we flew out of Canada. We did it cheap imo, used EasyJet to move around in Europe. But we didn’t skip out on food lol - travel for food! Haha

We took our kids to England a few months ago. We spent 5 days in London (our feet were tired but I could have used one more day to do the rest of the museums). Hampton Court was one of our favourite places to go. We did it on the same day as Windsor Castle, on our way to the Cotswolds (and Oxford) for a few days.

Great cities that Mark recommends. Something to keep in mind when planning your trip, you will use at least a 1/2 day and often more to change cities. Packing, transfer to the train station, time on train, transfer to hotel and checking in can eat up a lot of time. If you are flying from the US your arrival day may not offer you much time to sightsee. If you travel from Saturday to Saturday (over 2 weeks) for instance you will have 12 full days on the ground, divide that by 4 cities and you have 2.5 days or less in each. It can be done but you may want to limit to 3 cities and take a day-trip out of one of them to get away from the crush of city life.
@WilkinsMichael
@WilkinsMichael 3 жыл бұрын
This definitely has to be factored in. I'd say 3 full days in each of these cities is realistically a 17 day trip even with no day trips and flying between cities so really it is closer to a 3-week trip.

From my first Experience in Europe...I recommend, at least for people like me, going to only one country. I saw Spain and Portugal my first time, and I felt like I wanted to see more of Portugal, but the trip to both was considerably cheaper than just to Portugal. A tour group gives, and gave me, a good overview. Now I just want to go to one city and stay there.

@SilverSamurai12
@SilverSamurai12 7 жыл бұрын
It can be but if you book your ticket far enough in advance you can get some decent deals. The thing with a flight is that you have to factor in getting to and from the airport ($$$ and time), which isn't an issue in Paris since the station is in central Paris. Just something to keep in mind. Champagne day trip is also an option from Paris.

Hi. 1) What hotels do you recommend for each of these cities that's not far from the sights you mentioned 2) Is it difficult to make sure we have the Louvre tickets or Sistine Chapel ..do you reserve them months or weeks ahead ?. 3) How do you do a "day tour" ? Are these with tour guides etc or we go off on our own..if so, is transportation by train ? by taxi ? from my hotel to Versailles for example). What you suggested sounds very exciting. Thanks.
@tammystreasures8766

I have to say an wonderful alternative to Versailles would be a day trip to Normandy with a knowledgeable guide. I loved Versailles, we spent our first night there before spending 9 more days in Paris. Our last day, we took a tour of Normandy. I think that is the most emotional trip I have ever been on. It is a wonderful tour and it very much brings World War II history alive. It makes it real to those of us that didn't have to live through it.

Hey Mark, If I may make a suggestion, how about a video covering what to do if you have problems with your European flights and dealing with their airlines? I ask because one of my "hats" is working with a websites that caters to soccer moms and, with what happened with United recently, a few have spoken up wondering what they should do if they get bumped overseas and the differences between US policies and European policies. I believe it's illegal to overbook in Europe but a few of my moms still assume it may happen to them. Google'ing for this information just gets buried in news sites covering the Chicago incident. Thank you for your time

I am living in Prague, i visited Paris, lived in Barcelona and also lived in Tampere Finland. I think in general people should not omit former Austro Hungarian and South Germany territories in central Europe.. So do not only visit Italy and France in Europe..even though both are gorgeous countries alone, but u can visit Krakow, Vienna, Salzburg, Nurnberg , Regensburg, Budapest, Auswitz (for history lovers), Munich. All are worth to visit in the central European region to understand the complicated history of Europe especially in the 20th century. I am glad u love Prague as a representative of that central european heritage we do share with surrounding countries... here u will feel more why EU matters more in Germany, Austria or Czech rep. than in UK.

thats a nice itinerary but many Americans seem to think that Europe is England, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain only, and it's not. While, they are lovely places, as a European myself who has travelled around my continent and has been to these countries, they are among the most overrated places we have here. While yes I think you should include one of those countries don't make your trip about them only, they make up 3 out of 4 countries listed here. The following is my opinion (cause lets face it we all that to different places differently :) haha) My itinerary for Americans coming to Europe a first trip to Europe should include Stockholm, Prague, Vienna, and Amsterdam, and of the better known cities I would include Rome since you get a touch of ancient civilisations too. Some awesome things to see in these cities: Stockholm- Vasa museum, royal palace, Drottningholm, Gripsholm, archipelago, Djurgarden, island hopping, Gamla Stan, City Hall, beautiful streets Prague Charles Bridge, Astronomical Clock, Old Town, Troya Castle, Petri Hill, Prague Castle, beautiful streets Vienna The Albertina, Schönbrunn, Belvedere, Hofburg, City Hall, beautiful streets Amsterdam The canals, the Rijks Museum, royal palace, Vondelpark, Van Gogh museum Rome Fontana di Trevi, Colloseo, Foro Romano, Arca della Patria, the Vatican, Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, pantheon, piazza navona/dell popolo, castel sant Angelo Then while in these place you can have little day trips ex from Stockholm to Visby/Orebro/ Uppsala/ or even the ferry to Tallinn, from Prague take a short train ride to Dresden Germany, (so you still see a bit of Germany but you visit a lesser known but very charming town), from Vienna to Bratislava/Salzburg/Innsbruck/Budapest, Amsterdam to the Hague/Leiden, and from Rome to la Reggia di Caserta/ or villa D'este- massive palatial complexes nice for a chill day spent in a garden on a mat surrounded by the noise of fountains. So you could land in Stockholm Arlanda and work your way down taking low cost flights, and trains to work your way around, and depart from Rome Fuimicino or vice versa :) I hope this gives you some curiosity to consider places which are not usually given much priority.

Personally, I found the Albertina in Vienna somewhat a let down as there were only a few art pieces I found interesting - perhaps I'm not so much into modern art. The Kunsthistorisches Museum is where I spent 3 whole days - marvelling at Greek & Roman antiquities, Renaissance & Baroque art and, fantastic collections of the Hapsburgs.

Your children are so fortunate!! I'm 23 and I went to Italy three weeks ago (my first time to another country!! the only country i've been) and they have traveled nearly all over the world and they're only toddlers, so envious :p

Mark, your accent is so clear and pronunciation perfect.. Being an Indian I can say that. your itinerary is cool but generally many Indians go to LONDON PARIS and then Swiss.Prague and Rome can wait but not Switzerland.

1:35 That looks suspiciously like a Wetherspoons to me. Man I hope visitors to our country don't think of that as being a quality real pub meal! Perfectly easy trap to fall into, Mark - they're a big chain with pubs nationwide. P.S, I'd throw Berlin in there for Prague personally (I found Prague to be sadly overrun with stag-do drunkards when I was there) but hey, I'm sure the comment section is gonna be full of people suggesting loads of other places! ;-)
