Come Pet My Hornets! Well, maybe not! But I have hornets in my barn and I have been watching them grow in a clear box I built! They are amazing creatures and they are so beneficial for the ecosystem!

You: So cool, calm and collected. Talking lovingly to your hornets. You even built them a new home!!! Me: I have a small hornet's nest on the front porch. When they start buzzing, all the neighbors see a fat, old, half Asian woman doing the Highland Jig on the front porch, screaming "AHYA!!! AHYA!!! NO STING, NO STING!!!!" I'm so glad I can provide free entertainment to the neighborhood.

If they would just chill out I wouldn't mind the hornets as much. The European Paper Wasps I have around the house are so docile they could almost be pets. The yellowjackets and other hornets are just jerks.

I'm in the UK and they are native here but rarely seen. I saw one a few weeks back in woodland. I have never come across them nesting in buildings here, or in an urban environment. We have plenty of the common Wasps (Vespa Vulgaris?) but not as many this Summer, they certainly nest in peoples buildings. I am a beginner Ant keeper, there seem to be similarities between Wasps ant Ants from what I have seen. I have heard that Hornets are active at night and hunt at night, they were certainly alive and well in your barn "Waspicarium"! Have you tried red light? They might be calmer but probably harder to film...

Hey Bret... So I think I might have an invention that could help you. So I was googling these plastic domes (search: Acrylic PMMA Clear Dome) - I think people use them to cover security cameras and shit... well anyhow, I was thinking, damn! what if Hornet King got one of these, and just drilled a hole in one side of that and installed a rubber gasket or grommet such that a shop-vac hose could fit in there snugly. Then you could roll up on ground wasp nests and just pop that dome over the entrance! Turn on the vac and go have a frosty Miller High Life, the champagne of beers. Sure, the adults could escape the nest entrance hole, but would be constrained to the dome and couldn't swarm around you. Also, you could insert the hose through the gasket hole about a foot so you could still position the mouth of the vac-hose right at the wasp's entrance hole but still keep the whole area covered by the dome. Then, when the few adults that do escape capture at the mouth of the nest figure out that they can't escape the dome and swarm the customer's yard, they'll probably get frustrated and go back to the entrance and get sucked up then. Just a way to prevent them from escaping and a "hands off" vacuum system. Then you could pick off returning foragers one at a time with soapy water spray or RAID or whatever. Just an idea.

I was walking through my woods yesterday and found a huge nest...I'm still so freakin excited about it, I've always wanted to see one in the wild. I think its a bald face hornet nest. I wish I could send you a picture to get your thoughts. Great video

Very informative! Thanks to the subtitles with automatic translation, I can better follow the interesting things you describe. The fear I have for hornets remains, but thanks to you I respect them more!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

A suggestion for the next box you make might be to cut slots in so the plexiglass just slides into place. That way you won't disturb them with the screwdriver when cleaning inside & you have easy access. 🙏✨❤️🤍💙✨🙏
