Sikorski's arguments show that with his Oxford Uni. political science degree, American journalist as a wife, and coming from Poland - a country with a thousand-year experience with Russian imperialism - he knows what he is talking about and is a perfect contributor to this discussion.

The Polish Foreign Minister is certainly brilliant and a welcome contributor to this critical discussion about supporting Ukraine and the advantages of a strong NATO alliance. Hence his comment about not sending an invoice to America for 2,500 Polish Soldiers going to Afghanistan while 10,000 American Soldiers are stationed in Poland was even more shockingly absurd. Like many Oxford educated, European politicians and American journalists, he calls on America to do more for Ukraine after 75 years of America always meeting her commitment to NATO spending 6% of GDP for defense, covering 70% of NATO's financial expenditures in 2022 and sending $70. He employs that Oxford education and journalist wife's knowledge demand more from America while ignoring those 20 NATO allies, like Germany & France and Poland until recently, failing to spend at least 2% of GDP after committing to do so in 2014. Like the American saying, "You only beat the hardest working horse to get more work done and never the rested, lazy horse." Brilliant! He's a natural for the next President of the EU Parliament.

@@Blanka1100 As an American Soldier, I am grateful for Poland's increasingly strong contributions to NATO and Ukraine. My point is while the Foreign Minister calls on America to do more for Ukraine touting Poland's efforts, he would do well with the American people comparing Poland's efforts with America instead of only mentioning invoices for Polish troops, Poland's most recent percentage of GDP for defense and recent Polish contracts for advanced American weapon systems. Percentage of GDP: America's 6% GDP for 75 years compared with Poland's 2% of GDP average beginning in 2015, invoice for 2,500 Polish troops annually to Afghanistan compared with an invoice for 10,000 American Soldiers in Poland, and Polish military contracts for Abrams tanks, Patriot air defense and F-35's fighters (All top military technology America spent trillions of dollars researching & developing) compared with America's millions of dollars pumped annually into Poland's economy also good for Polish business as those 10,000 American Soldiers spend on the local economy, local nationals on American bases pay, etc. According to Polish government information, Poland spent 2% annually for defense 5 times over 15 years 2009-2022, 2.1%, (2015), 2% (2018 & 2019), 2.2% (2020 & 2021) and 2.4% (2022). From 2000 to 2011, Poland spent 2% once in 2007. Poland is a great ally and strong force for NATO's collective defense. America demonstrates her commitment to Poland and NATO always meeting her NATO commitments and putting American lives on the lone stationing 10,000 American troops in Poland in addition to the 100,000's of American Soldiers in other NATO countries.

@@marcinpok4264 I would agree with you but then we would both be wrong. Having worked for two US Army Generals in Europe, 2013-2017, I understand the difference between host nation financial support and the much larger unreimbursed expenses to the American taxpayer. Poland will pay about $300 million for infrastructure like barracks, naval & aerial port improvements, etc. The largest initiative is $93 million for new Army barracks & dining facility in Powidz, a major aviation and logistical hub for the U.S. military. Other projects include a $35 million rotary wing apron in Powidz, fuel storage and rail improvements in Swietoszow, and aerial port and taxiway upgrades in Wroclaw and $16.2 million to establish a “company operations facility” for U.S. special operations troops doing missions in Lubliniec. Source - Stars and Stripes Poland will recover most if not all its expenditures through the millions of dollars injected into the local economies and Poland assuming control of these bases whenever the American forces withdraw.

Wrong. Actual government (with Donald Tusk as PM) has stopped all important infrastructural investments in Poland (Central Flight Port combined with fast railways infrastructure, Odra - river regulation for transport, Baltic Sea container port near Szczecin and more - all this moves are very welcome by Germany, by the way). Tusk`s government is also questioning military contracts signed both with South Korea and the USA industry - the future of polish armed forces is very uncertain now. Moreover, Tusk's government brutally violates the Polish constitution, undermines and ignores court decisions, takes state institutions (state television, the General Prosecutor's Office, etc.) beyond all legal regulations, places its people in state-owned companies etc. - all this is the so-called "restoring the rule of law". As to Radek Sikorski speach, I can not dissagree. Maybe He is the only one in this government whom we can trust, but it is really difficult to convince myself He is out of all described wickedness. Biden has not criticised the contributions of EU NATO members as far as I'm aware. Also, the U.S has already made significant contributions to Ukraine, which isn't a NATO member but is still critical to Europe. The U.S is obliged to continue this funding, and Trump is causing significant delays to this funding which is causing ensuing chaos.

The USA Senate passed a law in 2022 with the annual defense budget that no president can withdraw from NATO without Senate approval
@cbarcus
@cbarcus 2 ай бұрын
Trump can fundamentally undermine NATO despite the law by just refusing to honor Article 5. Besides, it is his plan to purge the government with Project 2025 so that he may consolidate the power of law enforcement and the military to serve him instead of the Constitution. There is little doubt that his election to a second term will end democracy in the US, and plunge the country into chaos. I think the purpose of the law was to convey the importance of the alliance to voters, but we can see that the GOP no longer cares about such matters, preferring isolationism, lawlessness, and dictatorship. Perhaps GOP should now stand for Government of Putin instead of Grand Old Party as it seems to have more in common with Ukraine’s pro-Putin Party of Regions.

Radek was also historically accurate that it was President Trump who sent lethal military equipment to Ukraine after Russia's two invasions and annexation in 2014. President Trump also provided military advisors to Ukraine. Biden withdrew these American Soldiers in 2022 before Russia's third invasion. This training is producing some of the best results on the battlefield in Ukraine. Additionally, President Trump pushed for critical military and civilian hierarchy changes from Soviet to Western leadership models and tactics. Biden's idea of supporting Ukraine was offering President Zelensky a ride out of Ukraine and delaying for months and years in some cases critical military equipment and ammo requested by Ukraine.

Our relation with China: China is our ancient friend, Neighbour, enemy, business partner, BRICS partner, SCO partner. Religiously, the two nations are very much related to Buddhism. We live side by side for thousands of years and the two great ancient civilizations on Earth. Only one time we fought with each other. This is a world record for the world. We, Indians, keep all our doors open. So that any country may advise us on what to do and don't. But it is up to us to decide what option is appropriate for us and serve best our national interest as we are a sovereign country. We are not like Japan, South Korea or Germany, Historically China once had severe ties with Russia but India never left Russia. Our friendship has been steady since our Independence. The US and USSR made great contributions to the Chinese Revolution. So their relation is multi-dimensional. Common understanding cannot measure these. We are for business and global peace.

I share these wise words and think this is the way forward, Germany has unfortunately lost its way. However, I hope that a new government will leave the wrong path.

So comforting to see and hear such unity amongst these stalwarts of NATO. World democracy will continue to survive and thrive as long as we have such leaders. No argument: Sikorski possesses a towering intellect.

As a German, I feel shame when I see Bärbock speaking for our Country. The worst foreign minister in the last 75 years by far.
