Everyone seems not to get that life expectancy and lifespan are two different things. Life expectancy can be change by disease or death by childbirth. Lifespan has pretty much remained constant. If you survived the disease or not dying at birth you would probably live to be 70, 80, or even 90 years old.

My great-great-grandfather (1821 -- 1896) was a farmer and a preacher. He had 4 children by his first wife, and 11 by his second. My genealogical research has located (so far) over 100 grandchildren and at least 254 great-grandchildren, one of which was my father (1909 -- 1967). That makes a big bunch of cousins!

Samuel Whitmore having 10 kids isn't really of note, my family goes back to 1635 in New England and the majority of the families in the 17th and 18th century had 6-12 children. One of my ancestors was part of that force that chased the British past where Sam would have made his stand.

The checking for 10 windows for 10 kids on the house at the end made me smile. Smart. That kind of curiosity used to apply logic was a skill sought out by some of the best spies in history. Ever watch Inglorious Bastards? There's a scene where a guy's cover is blown when he seemingly does nothing wrong. What he did do in fact was use a hand signal not native to whom he was pretending to be. The enemy immediately picked up on this mistake. Such a seemingly small detail can be life or death. Another great example of this in practice is in the movie Taken, when during the abduction, he stays calm and says to shout everything she sees while she can. All that extra information became vital for her recovery. Even small details. Anyways.....great job noticing that detail :)

I've seen this video before...actually all of them. However this time I did catch something that I missed previously. I believe it was a historian I saw on t.v. who said that Samuel Adams would not have been yelling "The British are coming!" because the colonists themselves were still British citizens. But I get the point: The colonists would have differentiated themselves from the British military seeing them as opposing occupiers.

My Grandma was 38 when she had my Mom who was her 6th child. My Mom has nieces and nephews as old or older than her. I'm the 35th of 36 first generation Grandchildren and grew up playing with 2nd and 3rd cousins the same age as me. My Mom and me recently tried to figure out how many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Grandchildren my Grandpa, her Dad, had just by the time he passed away at 92 and we just weren't sure. Having anything from 2-6 kids with the average being 3-4 kids each in my family has caused me to make my kids find out what last names are in a family before my children date someone in our state. Particularly from 4 of the counties in our state that my whole family mostly just avoid dating anyone from anymore because my Grandpa was something like the 12th or 13th out of 14 or 15 kids from his parents. I have 2 daughters, one is still in Highschool but my oldest moved states away and married into a family from that state so that I also have one Granddaughter so far.

There were a bunch of bad ass dudes in America in those days . An ancestor of mine was a farmer on the frontier in western Virginia in the 1750's .One day he had gone into town to trade and while he was away a Shawnee raiding party came,burned down his house and kidnapped his wife and kids .He came home saw what happened and took off after them ALONE . He tracked them all of the way back to their village in Pennsylvania ,walked into the village and said something like "you've got my wife and kids and I'm here to take them back " . The Indians were impressed by the size of his balls so they didn't kill him on the spot .Instead they said " We will send your wife and kids back ,but keep you prisoner " . They sent his family back and burned him alive at the stake .

Average life expectancy of 60 is because so many died as infants and children back then, so the average age at death was quite low, but once one survived to adulthood many lived into old age.
@JonathanH1253
@JonathanH1253 6 ай бұрын
Having so many kids was actually very common back then, you have to remember, the infant mortality rate back then was very high. Parents would have a lot of kids because it was very likely that at least a few of those kids wouldn't make it to 5 years old. Sometimes Parents would lose over half their children, sometimes they'd get lucky and lose none. They were very different times, remember, their medical knowledge back then was primitive at best.

@@tonyaosborne6881 A perfect example for the exaggeration is, even though Paul Revere was captured well before midnight, he's the only rider of many remembered because his name rhymed easily, for a particular writer who penned a poem, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." I suspect much more is made up of exaggeration than is true. As in the video's title, "Angry old veteran vs 700 Red coats." He took a few pot shots at them and was lucky to have lived. That's hardly him taking on 700 men by himself.

@@Atheos-1 Revere, Prescott and Dawes were detained but were later released just after midnight and Revere made his way back on foot to Lexington to witness the latter part of the battle on Lexington Green. So he accomplished what he set out to do. To notify the Sons of Liberty and the locals. He even hit up John Hancocks house and went in for a few minutes. So my supposition is that the event ocurred, and the writers of history may have taken some poetic license but it does not diminsh what he and many others accomplished.

Also the "Your New Zealand Family" is doing a release tomorrow, early evening (here) on checking out Terry Blacks. Also there's a Swedish guy who did a video about BLACKS (Just not Terry - who is a 'breakaway' from Blacks - I dunno, but reviews I've seen by ppl who have compared the 2, swear Blacks is the better all around. I've only ever had Blacks, not Terry Blacks, so I can't really say for sure). BUT! Next time I head SW.... I'm doing it... head to head comparison.

Don't believe the average life span. Was 60. I've seen too many videos of people older than 60 during that time frame. There was a cemetery near us with graves of people born in the 1700's who lived to be in their 70, 80 and 90'ss in that cemetery

A big part of the low average lifespan is because of high infant mortality. If you lived past early childhood, your life expectancy wasn't _too_ far from today's life expectancy.

Don’t know where he got the idea life expectancy was 60 back then, it wouldn’t have been anywhere near that. Probably more like 35 to 40. However that was largely due to people dying young and child mortality screwing up the statistics. If you made it into your 50s YOUR life expectancy probably was 60 to 70 I’d guess.

You say you don't have a lot of reactions, but you laugh, and pop in saying NO WAY. Plus if you could see your face as you react to these, it is just as much of a statement as your words.
