It’s halftime in the election campaign, but who looks like they’ll make it to the last 16, and who is being unceremoniously sent home early?
Camilla Tominey and Kamal Ahmed are joined once again by resident Daily T stattos, Data Editor Ben Butcher and Political Correspondent Dom Penna to see how the polls have moved in the last few weeks since Nigel Farage announced he was standing. They also highlight the new battlegrounds and discuss supermajority maths.
Plus Camilla and Kamal will discuss what a flock of very young Labour MPs will do to Westminster.

I'm a 55yr old lifelong Conservative voter. In the past I've voted for them through gritted teeth however, I will never vote for them again. Reform aren't perfect but what 3yr old is. Rome wasn't built in a day and Labour will win but this is a long term plan that can't afford to fail. They really are this countries last hope of avoiding falling apart as a nation.

The working class have always been socially conservative, they are not socialist revolutionaries at heart. That is probably why the labour party abandoned them decades ago while searching for more cannon fodder for their revolutions. I am fed up with Labour and Tories kicking the ball down the road, knowing full well that by the time they will be held to account, they would no longer be in power. Look at Social care, Blood and Post Office scandals. Fights to Rwanda, Rishi knew they would never take off so called an early election just before the promised first flight in July. I am voting for Reform.
@stuartfitch7093
@stuartfitch7093 8 күн бұрын
These people are behind the ball. I've seen plenty of comments where people have said they've voted Labour all their lives but not any longer, they will now be voting Reform. These are typically people like myself, working class people from northern, red/blue wall towns that have been left behind by both main political parties and the local people have felt for some time that they've no political home because they've been deserted by both Labour and the Conservatives since the main two have become so close there's barely a cigarette paper between them on policy. Reform is something we can vote for. It is something we can call a political home. Politics is now changing very fast and time is up for the two big old dinosaurs of politics. They are both heading towards extinction.

Looking at the last 10 polls before the election was called, the ten before Farage took over as Reform Leader and the ten most recent. This is the pattern: The Conservatives started on 23.5 and had pushed up to 24.7% before the Farage effect, now they are on 20.3% down 3.2% overall. Reform started at 11.2% were squeezed a little to 10.7%, but are now at 15.9%, so up 4.7% overall. Clearly that hasn't all come at the expense of the Tories. Labour started at 45.1% and had dropped a point when Farage took over and is now at 40.7% down 3.5. The Lib Dems started at 9% and are now at 11.6%. Up 2.6%. The Greens are unchanged on 6%. What we can say is that Labour are losing votes both to the Lib Dems, probably signs of tactical voting in Tory seats, but are also losing votes to Reform. For every two votes that Reform get from the Conservatives , they take one from Labour, and Labour lose two to the Lib Dems. As a bit of fun, if the polling trends carry on in the second half of the campaign, we would end up with Con 17%, Labour 36% LD 14% Ref 21% Grn 6%, which is pretty close to that YouGov poll!

The red wall Brexit voters only loaned their votes to Boris as a one off to get Brexit done. They would probably have voted for the Brexit party if they hadn't stood down. They wouldn't be natural Tory voters so would not have voted Tory this time round . If they want an alternative to the labour that keeps screwing them over in councils and local MPs regardless of the national government, then reform is really the only different option. Most of the other viable options are just yet more cheeks.

In 1945, the Labour Party took nearly two-thirds of the seats in the House of Commons BUT WITH LESS THAN HALF OF THE POPULAR VOTE. The combined popular vote of the Tories, National Liberals and Liberals was greater than the vote for Labour. In the Peterborough by-election, the vote for pro-Brexit candidates,.... the pro-Brexit candidate, the rabidly pro-Brexit Conservative candidate and the UKIP candidate took the majority of the votes but the rabidly pro-EU Labour candidate, Lisa Forbes, got the seat because her 30.9% of the vote was more than any other individual candidate. Parliament having been dissolved just days earlier, Lisa didn't even get to make a maiden speech because, horrified by the result of the by-election, on 4th July, the people of Peterborough voted tactically, dumping the Brexit candidate and elected Mike Greene the Conservative Candidate, the combined Conservative and Brexit vote (UKIP didn't stand) was more than 50% of the popular vote but what a shame that so many people had to abandon Brexit in order to defeat the unwanted Lisa Forbes The same applied soon after in the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election in which the majority of votes cast were for anti-EU candidates but the rabidly pro-EU Liberal Democrat, Jane Dodds, walked off to Westminster A totally undemocratic electoral system in 1945, totally undemocratic in those by-elections and a totally undemocratic electoral system now.
