Very disappointing from the peloton that they gifted Bardet 2 minutes within a few kilometers in the decisive part of the stage. I'm glad that nobody of them took the stage win in the end. Congratulations to Bardet, van den Broek and Abrahamsen for an impressive and very entertaining race! 👍

They knew he was there. They knew he was a former GC contender. They knew there were others in the group that were most likely a biggger threat than a former GC contender. Be honest now, when was the last time you took Bardet seriously? It has been a few years since you were able to consider him a threat to GC. This, i think is what allowed him to even be in the break as normally GC riders are policed right away. Especiallly on day one. Good rider but ive not thought of him even being a thret for anything for a few years now. If they thouught the same and you could excuse them for thinking that way, then that is what allowed him to be in the break and to even win. They wont think of him not being a threat anymore. Complacency got them. Oh, its just bardet. He has not done jack in how many years now? That dinosaur is on his last legs and retireing after this. They paid dearly for that.

Best first stage of a TdF in my memory. Cannot even think of any 1st stage coming close. Became even more exciting because of the jonas/Pogocar rivalry since most knew of Jonas accident and Pogocars positive covid test 2 weeks before start.Following if any off them were showing weakness, just added to it all. Incredibly they both looked strong which only makes the also tough stage 2, potentially just as exciting. YEAHHHHH! 5 mountain tops on stage 1! What a stroke of genius from TdF. NEVER another 1st stage TT again!

Jan HIrt, crashed in the neutral zone and breaks three teeth? And then we have people like the pver-paid and pompous footballer Neymar who rolls around on the floor acting like an axe was taken to his legs only to have not been touched at all. @@accidentalclickage1979 Eddy turned up 3 positives and also admitted to taking dope. It is highly likely that he was on dope for his entire career. I consider all his wins suspect. An unpopular opinion but i dont care what people think. The dope during eddys time was all over the place and they were all using it. Tom Simpson died of it during eddies time. Cav still wins even in the absense of his own train. He did not need a train during his hayday. Still does not as he proved last year. Has cav ever been found to use dope? No. Eddy? Yes, and he admittd it as well. Whose reputation is untarnished? People need to get off of their "dont touch eddy" ideas. Same goes for Coppi who used dope and same goes for antequil who also used dope.

The trouble with this commentary - and I admire the idea of going full-native ie DeyEzEmm (DSM) on the way to Pareeee - is that those casual enthusiasts like me don’t have a clue what or who he is talking about a lot of the time. A phonetic (an phonetic?) version on subtitles would help us know if Vanyagooor is going to beat Preeemosh etc. I’ll keep watching as the alternative is bike nause Ned who is half way between English and full-pastis
