@@Patrick.V. Because I'm a big esc fan since many years. But this year was very stressful. Do you know those things you love to do even tho it's very stressful? And I'm glad it's over because of all the drama and EBU bullsh*t and at the same time I'm so glad to see those songs at the stage, it was really amazing! Things can be both at the same time. And if you already love something you're more willing to also hold on that in the more stressful times which may be less great than some times in the past.

As a Croatian but also Eurovision fan, I am actually relieved (disappointed and sad, but still relieved). Baby Lasagna, Nemo, Slimane, JH&AA, Bambie Thug and the juries saved this Eurovision🇭🇷😻🇨🇭🇺🇦🇮🇪🇫🇷 In Croatia we are proud of Baby Lasagna, who in the end prevailed despite political telesupporters😻😻😻🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷💪💪💪

Viewers weren't necessarily political. You don't have to be that to think that protesters acted like an unfair, rude mob towards the Israeli performers, who just had been happy to get their chance to shine this year, doing something they are good at.

There’s a lot of questionable public votes this year! I’ve seen a post of woman posting about how she gave a certain country 60 points by voting with 3 different credit cards from 3 different countries. This needs to be investigated!

I thought each person was allowed to vote 20 times using one method of payment .So 3 credit cards would equal 3 different methods of payment. What's the problem?

Fact: In 2021 and 2022 the televote overturned the jury vote, in 2023 and 2024 the jury vote overturned the televote. So NOT EVERY YEAR the jury overturns the televote.

I'm Finnish so last year I supported Käärijä. I didn't have a favorite this year, although I would have liked to see Europapa in the final. We need messages that promote European unity in these times. Switzerland's, Croatia's, and Ukraine's (and btw, Ireland's) entries are well-deserving of their placings in my opinion, but here's the deal. I don't really care about the results anymore. For the second year in a row, I am left feeling queasy and uneasy about EBU's treatment of the artists and the fans. The scandals are mounting and it's overshadowing the contest for me. There's no joy in it anymore. The Finnish broadcaster YLE published an article recently that said that Finland "dodged a bullet" by not having to host ESC! Now, this is not the official stance of the broadcaster but they do seem to support ESC experts who are coming out and saying that EBU is in full-blown crisis and needs to act. It's not just us Finns or the Dutch who are put off, is it? Something really is off.

The biggest problem is the communication, I think. This contest was a nightmare for the EBU and it's mainly their own fault. Why not better explain why Israel was included and Russia not? Why not explain what happened with Joost? Martin Osterdahl got all the boo's he deserved...

Switzerland is essentially a bunch of hotels and other businesses owned by the same owners as esc, and seeing how they keep pushing their propaganda (how close they came to fully unmasking their whole operation this year) they might actually have to do more than give discounts for a hope of filling a venue next year, or avoiding a total boycott. I can even see their early announcements or moves regarding next year's contest landing as such an insult to humanity at large it does the whole thing in.

Jurys dont have to match the televote. They have a different set of criteria. Rarely an act satisfies the criteria of juries and televote equally. That will always be the exception.

We had a lot of songs winning both, 2009; 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, in the last years ist seems that televoters tend to vote more for uptempo numbers

Gotta laugh at these finns (aka Käärijä fans) still leaving bitter comments and trying to hate on Loreen lol. She does her thing and you love or hate it. But goddamn grow up people. It's 2024. Loreen even said she knows people will complain and say why does she have to do all this weird stuff and not just walk on the stage and sing. She does not care. That's why she is such a powerhouse.

Hi Matt, I agree with you about not watching the national finals. I enjoyed listening to them all at once during ESC weekend. Entering the contest with an open mind and zero bias made a big difference. France was my first choice before the semis. Still, I was impressed with Nemo's controlled singing on the moving podium, Croatia's ability to control the entire arena, and Ukraine won me with their well-planned creative staging. I did vote for Latvia as I like the song, even though everyone listed him as an NF.

I don‘t understand why it‘s so bad that the jury winner won instead of the televote winner? The televotes have the exact same amount of power, don‘t they? If they‘d all agree on their favorite, they could have similar runaway winners. They just tend to be slightly more split in their votes, so their first place didn‘t weigh as much as the jury‘s first place. But the ratio of jury/televotes for croatia and switzerland are pretty much just reversed, so I don‘t really see the problem? And I‘m glad that this year the juries balanced out the political televotes, which isn‘t always the case.

Because the jury votes shouldn't have that much power. It's a competition for the people, it's a show and they receive a lot of money by millions of people who voted and then 5 people juries out vote them? Nah. PS. The ratio was not reversed, Nemo came 5th for a public vote while Marko came 3rd with the juries. Nemo was also 2nd in his semifinal and Croatia was 1st.

The jury can be more powerful because they are with fewer (5) people per country. So a song is more likely to get big points. With the televote you are with thousands per country, so the spread of votes is very big, making it almost impossible for a song to get a landslide televote result (unless you go out of your way to buy sympathy votes).

@@Marina_-_- in terms of points it‘s pretty much reversed, which is what counts, since the total points declare the winner, not the ranking. And nowhere does it say it‘s a people‘s show, it‘s a show to award the best entry sent by the participating countries, and for this a panel of (ideally unbiased) experts is important. I‘m not saying there aren‘t serious flaws in the system, as the jury scandals of recent years have shown, and i don‘t understand why the jury part gets all of the attention during the results procedure instead of the televotes. But i appreciate having two sides of votes to balance each other out.

@@Andre_stats_0111 but this lies in the inherent characteristics of the two voting systems and is not a bad thing per se. Yes, the few jury members have much more individual weight, and we should focus strongly on the selection of jury members, so they actually fulfill their duty of being neutral, openminded experts, or maybe extend the number of members per country, but in the long run I think it‘s better for the contest to not have the gimmicky party songs win most of the time. I’m afraid it would quickly turn back into who‘s the funniest, craziest, etc.

@@ChevsChoice of course it's a people's show. It's not the Voice. And you still don't get my point. A 5 people jury cannot have the same weight as millions of people. Why vote even? The point is when you look at the charts and what people are listening to, Nemo was not the winner.

I think we should talk about it, that the jury once again decided who wins. Its not a competition at the moment, it is Ebu politics. We need to speak up and demand change, not stay quiet. At the moment the only ones that are speaking about the problems are the artists, and we need to back them up. And speak about the problems of this "competition" or admit that there is no true competition.

at least this year the politics of the jury voting got it right. Switzerland winning them by a margin was the most appropriate ending. He was by far the most deserving jury winner.

@@dalilam3994yeah, at least the Israeli televotes, especially in the most progressive and pro Palestinian countries like Sweden or Norway are very sus. Either almost everyone opposed to the war boycotted the event or at least didn't vote, and the vast majority of the rest voted for Israel, or there's some rigging going on. Or those are actually their numbers and the numbers for song no 5 combined. On the other hand, I find it less surprising, if a country ruled by Giorgia Meloni voted for Italy, but definitely not in as high numbers as projected in the Italian fake sf2 voting leak.

quite possibly we would be looking at a Croatia win if the Netherlands was not disqualified, we would have 4 countries with over 300 points televote and that would have brought down the Swiss vote by a noticeable margin

I've been following Matt and the ESCUnited channel since at least 2015 and I have a vast range of wonderful memories to cherrish all along these years with them, proudly indeed, along with the countless hours of nice company they've shared combined with the information during rehearsals and the shows. I should only hope that they reconsider their approach in silencing entries in accordance with their personal ethics as a tool of opposition since it seriously overbends objectivity and professional journalism with unprecedented consequences. Maybe this form of choice of theirs ended up having the opposite result to the one intended. The audience spoke out and above all the Rest of the World showed Israel as their first choice which says a lot about the song. Please, for the sake of the contest, leave politics out of music.

To add to a question at around 1:20:00, I'm a Swiss fan and watched with another Swiss fan plus many of the communities I'm in seemed pro-Swiss; I suppose we'd be categorized in the younger-queer bubble of Eurovision fans. I also simply think the type of sing has an influence here: songs like Croatia are so wacky and so loud they kinda demand their fans to spread the word. Not to be elitist, especially as I enjoyed Croatia's plenty also, but the skill and technique on display with Switzerland's kinda peaks for itself to me, and importantly, can't be replicated by the average fan. You can dance and sing along to the former and not the latter. I hope that makes sense and isn't too up itself.

reg. Ukraine, Jerry and AA are more well known than Tvorchi abroad. it's not surprising that J + A got more votes than Tvorchi. As for votes : people in Ukraine knew Nemo is non binary, Suspilne's Timur made sure it comes across and he also repeated Nemo's pronounce multiple times during the broadcast, never slipped. But it's such a non-issue I think. The song's quality and the amazing performance did the thing to make people vote for Nemo.

The Eurovision audience in the arena, the judges and a lot of the juries are representing everything the Eurovision should NOT be about. The public has a very different opinion. I think this year was probably the start of the decline of Eurovision, it's becoming a gay, progressive event only that isn't about inclusion but about boycott, separation and racism.

I am croatian and despite it was a bit sus for almost all juries to give 12p to switzerland, I think we need juries to prevent what happened in televote with 300+ points for ukraine and israel. I don't understand how come Isr ael gets booed and hated for 2 months and won televotes in all western european countries, even the netherlands who was disqualified because of them.

I agree they wouldn't have won. But they could've made a big difference in the end result, taking points from the actual big hitters in the televote. Maybe with Netherlands in the final, Croatia would've won. We'll never know I guess.

I am sorry but it's the second year in a row when the winner is not the person that millions of people wanted to win. At this point it doesn't even make sense to compete and just think about all the people who spent their money to vote? It's useless because obviously juries decide who the winner is. Why give them money anymore? I can't see Croatia or many other countries even competening next year.

Switzerland is a considerably higher quality song and I wouldn’t want the same type of fun songs winning every year. It’d demotivate countries from sending well sung and produced spngs.

@astronautt69 well, as I said, the Eurovision song contest stopped being a contest that wants great vocals, melodies, harmonies a looong time ago. Not looking for a Celine Dion anymore. And honestly, if critics/experts say a movie is great and after 10 minutes it sucks, people are not watching. So why do we even have a televote if he was only fifth? Apparently not appealing to people. Are the juries going to attend his concerts or listen to songs, make Playlist, Spotify and all that stuff?

Not according to millions of people who voted, he was only 5th.and as I said somewhere else, even if a movie critics say that a movie is a masterpiece, I am not watching it if it doesn't grab my attention. I think it would benefit the UK more if they didn't automatically enter the finals without the viewers voting, as I think a lot of people make up who they vote on, based on what they voted on in the semi finals

@@iamdansker I agree. I dont think it would make much difference though - No-one votes for the UK because we (our governments) poke their nose into too many countries business (including the backside of the USA haha)
