Eurovision: Entries getting points from every country but one!

By popular demand - i.e. 2 comments* - today we are looking at the entries that ALMOST achieved points from every other country before their dreams were shattered by just one country. We are looking at the countries that shunned, blanked, ghosted and snubbed otherwise highly popular entries!
Before I go on, I will remind everyone that NO ABUSE will be tolerated in the comment section. Do not insult each other. Do not insult countries and ethnicities. Be civil. Eurovision is supposed to be fun. If you're finding something triggering or frustrating, take a moment and come back to it later with a clear head.
So, with that out of the way, for this video I went all the way back to 1957 and I looked for the entries in the finals that got points from every other country except one. I had to exclude the years 1971-1973 when a grading system was used that meant the lowest number of points given could be 2. I did have a look though and it turns out that in the span of these 3 contests, 16 entries only had one low score of 2.

Following up from my previous video on entries that got points from everyone (video link in description), I present to you the entries that were just one step away from joining that elite group before they got blanked by one country! Credit for the idea goes to Álvaro Navarro and Quang Minh Trần! Please refrain from using strong language about any country that didn't vote for your favourite song! Let's keep it positive! Also in the meantime I have managed to finally finish my master spreadsheet of every point ever exchanged in the contest, which makes the analysis and pattern recognition a lot easier, hence why I included the pre-1975 entries in this video! If you have suggestions for videos you'd like me to make, I'm always happy to listen! Although with Eurovision actually approaching, I will soon start focussing more on this year so they might have to be delayed a little!

Italy doesn't give points to countries which haven't good lyrics. Their voting pattern is similar to Sanremo, because they are used to Sanremo 's voting. In Sanremo, 90 % of the time the best lyrics won the competition, not the best music. They usually don't give an f* about staging, rhythm and coreos because in Sanremo you actually evaluate vocal performances and lyrical content of the song. So, it's not rigged or sus: it's a voting pattern they have because of Sanremo.

@@naewsqrg but… they voted for party for everybody yet they didn’t vote for euphoria. I think it’s pretty clear which of those that has the better lyrics. This might just be an exception though.

@@chilihunter7392 Yep, because they think it was a funny troll act... Grannies were kind of a meme, back then. Btw, italian televoters didn't vote for Euphoria too, so is it just too difficult to understand maybe Italians don't love that song as much as others? If we Italians will point the finger everytime we felt robbed in this competition called Eurovision Song Contest, we would not finish 'til tomorrow, just saying... We even sabotage ourselves (or so it seems) twice (in 1993 and in 1997) to prevent any chance of winning because RAI didn't want to host back then. And you are talking about Eurovision where every single year Nordics vote Nordics, Baltics vote Baltics, Balcanics vote Balcanics. Italy didn't have a locked 12 from anywhere in any year, not even from San Marino, which gave us low scores some years. And you surely know where San Marino is and what language is spoken there, just saying. And how many times Italy placed second or third because of this voting pattern? In 2015 for example, even if I don't like Il Volo, I defend those guys because every eastern European gave 12 to Polina Gagarina, every Nordic gave 12 to Måns. Wasn't that sus that everybody in that area had the same preferences? It was so sus that made EBU eventually change the rules, splitting jury votes and televoting points in half. Italy is just playing fairly enough to vote who they want. And that will not change because some eurofans will say otherwise.

@@naewsqrg Okay, I’ll try to respond to your comment. First off, I have no difficulty understanding the fact that people like different music. In fact as someone who loves video game music I respect that. That’s not what this is about anyway. I get that party for everybody is a meme, but that acknowledgement hardly makes the lyrics better. Still, I see your point, and if one likes wacky lyrics, then that’s okay. However it’s obvious that the lyrics aren’t exactly intended to be interpreted or analyzed in anything below surface level in this instance. This is just my view on it though, so no need to take it that seriously. I may value certain lyrics more than others, and so may you. And this is okay, and the way it should be.

Would it be possible to make a video with the countries where their jury and televote agrees the most, to the countries where their juries and televotes disagrees the most? (I'm just throwing an idea out there, feel no stress or pressure to make it, I really understand that these things might take to much time)

I have done something similar, researching discrepancy between jury and televoters by each country... well, No surprise, Sweden is on top. Jury 12, televoters 0 is usual when it comes to Sweden. But would like you to do it... can be interesting!:)

@@denispk6228 I haven't found one single year where Sweden's jury has given 12 p to a country that Sweden's televoters has given 0 to. It was the other way around in 2022 and 2021 though, the Swedish televoters giving 12 to Ukraine and Finland while the juries giving 0.

In this year's final, there was one entry to get points from every country but one: Norway. "Queen of Kings" wasn't awarded any points by Lithuania in either televote or jury vote.

Nicole received 12 points 9 times from the other countries and had a big enough lead so Luxembourg wouldn't have made a difference. Funny how Lena also got 9 sets of 12's. Seems to be the number for Germany. What's with Italy? Belgium and Romania 2017? 😯 And both by Georgia, what a coincidence. A random example: for Switzerland 2019, shouldn't it say "all other 39 countries" since Switzerland can't vote for themselves? What I'm trying to say is: Shouldn't it be always a country less?

Your comments are always illuminating! Hadn't made the Germany connection before! The country numbers should be correct, unless I made a mistake with a particular year. Unless you are also excluding the country that didn't vote for each entry, which I included in the total numbers? Sorry if that's the case, it just made more sense to me

@@BecauseEurovision Ah shoot, you're absolutely right. I mistakenly thought 2019 had 40 participants and got confused there 😅 And for some reason, I saw 18 instead of 17 for Germany 1982 at first. I'm blind... Forget I said anything 😅 Yeah, I just recently noticed the 9x12 connection. Is Romania 2017 the lowest finisher or did anyone else finish 7th or lower? I really didn't expect them to have received points from 40 countries.

1977 is interesting. Places 3rd-5th received points from all but 1. 🇬🇧 received 3 0s (from 🇮🇪🇬🇷🇨🇭) yet still finished 2nd, given their *6x* 12 points.

Respect to Croatia for having the taste to give nothing to the worst winner of the ESC ever I don't care if you did it to help yourselves you deserved it way more! 21 - methinks Georgia wanted Italy to win and less surprisingly so did Italy. Well done Italy for dissing Slo Mo. Yes I know Croatia you should have Qed in 21 and we were crap but we got no points then and it's been a year - make like Elsa and let it go!

I love how everyone immediately thinks Italy ALWAYS votes strategically Sometimes we definitely have throughout the years, but most of the times it's clearly just a matter of different situational tastes Everyone is so up in arms that we didn't vote for Switzerland in 2021 and I respond that thank goodness we didn't because that song didn't go anywhere :" we gave points to France instead (a bigger contender to the win who finished 25 points behind us btw) who would have deserved to win the jury vote much more than Switzerland Also Chanel was alright but Slomo being voted by juries (and by almost all of them) is more sus than us not voting for it, still not sure how that happened 😂 I think most of the time we just do what we want (and mind you: I agree that sometimes it doesn't make sense) 🤷🏻♀️ With Loreen we were just idiots though, I'll give you that one lol

Italy voting in Eurovision = Italy voting in Sanremo. It is a pattern. In Sanremo people votes who have the best vocals or lyrics and so does in Eurovision. Italians are lyrical lovers more than rhythm lovers (90% of the time, the best lyrics win Sanremo, not the best composition). That explains why Loreen and Chanel are missing.

Hmmm not sure if you counted the countries right though. For verka Serduchka it says: received points from 41 countries except Albania. But in 2007 there were 42 countries competing. Ukraine can't vote for themselves, so shouldn't it say "received points from 40 countries except Albania"?
