Breaking News: The European Union is hitting Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) with tariffs of up to 30% by 4th July 2024! This bold move is set to drive up EV prices, making them less affordable for consumers. With the EU aiming to protect local manufacturers, what does this mean for you and your wallet? Stay tuned as we uncover the impacts on the automotive market and your next car purchase.
In this video, we discuss how the new tariffs on Chinese EVs will affect prices and availability in Europe. With Chinese cars becoming more expensive, European manufacturers may face less competition, potentially leading to higher prices across the board. We'll also cover the recent security concerns raised by the White House, highlighting the potential risks of Chinese vehicles being remotely controlled or hacked in the event of a conflict.
Learn about the broader implications of these tariffs on innovation and the push for greener transportation. As governments encourage the shift to electric cars, how will these new economic barriers impact progress? Watch now to understand the full picture and what it means for the future of electric vehicles.

Why should the rotten to the core EU's import tariff affect us. We aren't in the EU and should have our own policy on this

You're assuming We have sovereignty. Unfortunately it was surrendered to the US a long time ago. All these tariffs are being imposed on us in Europe/UK by our masters across the pond. A BYD Seal costs $30k in Australia, but it's gonna cost over $52k in Europe. I can only say protectionism hurts European customers. The US subsidizes up to $7500 for each Tesla buyer, but the US asks European countries to impose tariffs on Chinese cars with excuse of so-called subsidies,what a ridiculous excuse. European politicians should learn how to refuse America’s pressure, should be more independent, as the US coerces European countries to follow America’s policies but it hurts Europe’s interest badly.

EVangelist lover you may be, but economist, you ain't! The whole reason the EU wants to place tariffs on Chinese cars is to protect the EU's interests, not hurt them. The CCP heavily involve themselves in their manufacturing system by heavily subsidising their manufacturers of cars and EV's, which makes for an unfair advantage. Rightly, the EU will not sit idly by, like idiots, watching their huge car industry be decimated by such underhanded CCP tactics. That protects billions in manufacturing, millions of jobs, supports the EU economically and reduces the CCP and it's anti-west agenda. By the way, you conveniently forgot to mention that the USA has also gone after Chinese EV's with big tariffs, for the same reasons.

Import tariffs really do protect jobs in a local market. No import tariffs would result in mass unemployment and loss of valuable trades and skills. Look what happened to the steel industry here.
@LoveEVandenvironment
@LoveEVandenvironment Ай бұрын
@@fredfred2363 EU’s protectionism actually is punishing its customers and protect those high paid CEOs who have been ripping off their customers for decades! Some people may think tariffs can save jobs, but it actually acts the opposite way. It sacrifices everyone's interest by encouraging it's car companies to produce unaffordable cars. Let give an real example. A BYD Seal only costs $30k in Australia now, but it costs $52k in Europe, the European customer have to spend $22k more to buy the same product. The Aussie can use the saved $22k to buy heaps of groceries, make holidays, pay bills, eat out, etc, which again will enhance the Australian living standard and increase Australia’s GDP as a whole, not mention it can add more jobs in many industries as a result. I guess we are lucky living in Australia as we have a free market with more competition.

It would be ludicrous for us to slap tariffs on low end cars that we don't make in this country. Far better to scrap all tariffs and give the consumer a bigger choice that let's their limited spending power go further. EV tariffs in tye EU will benefit 3 or 4 of their member states and make EVs more expensive & unaffordable for the other 23/4 states

It'll be interesting to see if we end up with 'dumping' of ChinEVs on the UK market? Will that help achiEVe the target of 22% of all cars sold being EVs or will we feel obliged to stand 'shoulder to shoulder' with our EU & US allies and impose tarriffs? It won't bother me because I recently bought a 2018 diesel, no range anxiety here. It will effect me when they plug the increasing number of EVs into the National Grid and watch it fall over. Great stuff as EVer BCG. Finger on the pulse & thought provoking.

To be honest, I refuse to buy any of those batteries on wheels death traps..... .....I'll be sticking to petrol vehicles. A far safer and more environmentally sustainable alternative is synthetic fuels (without ethanol). Toyota's approach with their multi-fuel engines (including carbon negative engines) and their keen interest about synthetic fuels will benefit many and synthetic petrol can (as far as I know) be used with existing petrol vehicles. Saving current vehicles (I think at least) is far more environmentally sustainable than constantly scrapping so-called "non-compliant" (spelt Greed Tax) vehicles.

ULEZ and other similar schemes in various cities have seen older (ie: affordable) vehicles head to the scrapyard, or become uneconomical to drive. This in turn has lead to a shortage of second hand cars which has seen prices skyrocket. Surely a cheap electric option would help bring car prices down? Although the cynic in me suspects that motoring will become the preserve of the wealthy, by design.

Statistically speaking: Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency says EVs are 20 times less likely to catch fire. American Insurance Institute reveals 25 out of every 100,000 EVs sold caught fire, compared to 1530 Petrol cars out of 100,000 and 3475 hybrids out of 100,000. The problem is that EVs fires are more spectacular and almost impossible to put out quickly.

We have a set of manufacturing safety, working conditions, human slavery, ethical and quality standards. If British, European and American governments truly respect the implementation and need for those standards here, then they should apply tarrifs to places which don't adhere to those standards, otherwise we encourage their avoidance of them in places like China. It does make products more expensive for western consumers, but then that is just, since we in the west have better morals than the CCP.
