Ragebait. It will only limit your speed if it is switched on. Secondly, if your overtaking manoeuvre requires you to go faster than the speed limit, your manoeuvre isn't safe.

Funny that the average speed and speeding had reduced in the UK before these measures were introduced. www.gov.uk/government/statistics/vehicle-speed-compliance-statistics-for-great-britain-2022/vehicle-speed-compliance-statistics-for-great-britain-2022#:~:text=The%20average%20car%20speed%2C%20under,single%20carriageway%20roads%20(51mph).

Side questions, mainly based on say 10 yrs time when its fully mandatory and active Who controls the speed limit data supplied to the gps, and what would happen if that were to change to zero mph. Will speed sign recognition override the gps speed data for cases of "temporary road works" signs, and would that mean the police ( or in fact anyone) be able to use a speed limit sign to slow or even stop a vehicle?

It costs practically as much to make a small car as a big one, since the body is not the major cost component. However, people think small cars should be cheap, and when manufacturers omit some expensive gizmos to cut the prices people complain. Also, were cars ever really cheap, except perhaps in America where the economic and social environment was unique?

I live just out side of M25 but if I tried to get to work from my residence it will take a minimum of 3 hours of public transport during the daytime, but if I tried to go to work in the early morning or late evening I have to stay the night before. The distance I have to travel by car to work is 20 miles. This is going to be absurdly expensive to the common person.

So pity. In my country at once the Fiesta and Focus were gone. 2 models you saw on every corner of the street. Now only stupid pickup trucs, and big SUV's which are totally not popular compare to the establishments like Toyota and Isuzu. Ford gambled wrong and getting now its reward that customers abandoned Ford in my country. And EV's are crap, so they gamble wrong again.

I been reading car mags since I was teenager. I still would rather read a mag than look at the same thing on a screen of a phone or laptop/tablet. Probably learn more about cars/vehicles from reading mags than any other source. I do take the point about magazine titles disappearing. One mag I been reading for 36yrs finished last year .

what about slip roads the exits in mainland Europe like France it has big signs on the exit what a computer could think that apply s to all the highway not just the slip. good job it cannot hit brakes because seen soon at 50km/h 30mph so that would be a harsh slow an no good if a truck close behind. as long as you can power through it as at times you need the extra bit speed to get out danger what others caused i name a few all stuck at 50mph in roadworks on motorway a truck goes to change lane without looking you may need a bit extra speed to stoop getting pitted. or a thing what happened a few times 3/4 through overtake and idiot decides to match you or race you far more safe to power past than slam on and try and get back in lane behind esp if you overtaking a car with line traffic behind, ive even had old people do it but kept foot to floor way above limits i out powered and got back to correct side road. speed limiters and zero deaths i feel if you cannot power through its going cause more danger in certain situations. im glad my next car more simple even a key to start a real hand brake and real spare tyre not kit its a 2015/16 car but im doing all i can to have a little interference as possible and if so it can be turned off , its that or a japan import those the options for my next car/micro van

This is why they started drive by wire years ago. Older cars had a throttle cable so there was no electronics to control.

Governments should advise not dictate what the market wants. Look at the failure of smart motorways, changes to the Highway Code, hs2. The people making these decisions should not be allowed anywhere near decision making.

Western car manufacturers need to regain a foot hold before the Chinese / Koreans do , said it for years , especially with Electric cars , small light with narrow tyres , but with the basic modern safety and comfort amenities to make a driver comfortable but aware , this makes more sense than some vulgar electric Bentley or range rover .

I prefer a smaller car and I absolutely love my Fiesta. And the problem with electric cars is always going to be the battery: electric cars need to have massive batteries to get any kind of appreciable range- so they are going to be massive cars... it is unavoidable. A small electric car is by necessity going to have a fairly tiny battery, and that means a ridiculously limited range...

Fully automated speed limiters based on current technology are dangerous. Not a mile from my house there is a bypass rated at 60 mph. However, as I approach the bypass 9, times of 10, my car fails to report the change in speed so I get an alarm telling me I am exceeding 30 mph when I am actually doing 40 in a 60. Where this gets dangerous is when roads of different speeds pass over each other such as the A46 East of Bath. The road is a 50 mph limit but as the A46 passes under the A46, which is a 30 mph junction, the system gets confused. For a short distance my car is confused and reports it should be doing 30 whilst in a 50. If the brakes were applied automatically, the sudden braking for no apparent reason would at some point result in me getting rear-ended.

If it will be impossible to speed then the government WILL come up with another way to tax people as they WON'T just go without millions of pounds in fines. So look out for ulez all over the country. Pay per mile. Etc etc.
