Vans are made to carry things, but how will they behave when they have their maximum permitted payload on board? A couple of hefty washing machines should do the job, then we’ll subject them to a slalom course/drag race combo on the track. Can we take a second to point out that those vans got loaded with only about 300kg... ? Those things likely weight around 2500kg empty, how bad do you design a powertrain to crap itself under such a small load increase for something to haul things? You'd likely have those 300kg in the back on a non-panelvan version just for the seats and trim. I hate (Li-Ion powered) EVs and dont think much of them, but those things look like they were made just to satisfy some EU-Fleet Emission requirement instead of being usable vehicles. At least I don't want to think VW/Merc engineers would fail this bad in an attempt to construct a usable vehicle.

Should be at least 300mile range for a fully electric van, if your in construction and electric vans are the only option further on down the road then they need to improve vastly, for distance and how they deal with carrying capacity affecting range, these two vans at the moment are a joke.

Michael the van still has to get to the city, the depots aren’t in the cities. Plus, unless the van is Amazon logo’d up, we own or rent our own vans. We use the van to get to and from the depot. For me, just to get from home to depot to where the deliveries actually are and home again is at least 100 miles a day. These vans aren’t even capable of that when empty, let alone at motorway speed and/or with 3-400 kilos of stuff in the back.

Good old petrol-headed ignorance strikes again. These vans are purpose made. The range they have matches the normal daily use you would expect from them. Complaining that you can't drive 100 miles in a van that isn't designed for long hauls is a bit stupid to be kind. Why is it that these fossil brained car reviewers never worried about a £1million Bugatti Veyron running out of petrol in 50 miles, but an EV Van is lacking if it only does 53 miles? The vehicle is 20 times cheaper to buy and infinitely cheaper to fuel than a Bugatti Veyron, but Jason would drool over the gas guzzler. And the Veyron doesn't even have a purpose. It's just fast and that's it. It's no good as a family car and certainly no good for moving goods and furniture. The EV vans are for putting stuff in and carrying it relatively short distances. The average 18 to 24 year-old will only move 37 miles or less from their home town. So, if you're using the van to move house it has all the range it needs. But, the most common uses are moving goods around a town or city doing journeys of as little as 3 miles at a time. Also the average daily distance driven for a van regardless of purpose is the same as it is for cars and vehicles towing trailers or caravans: less than 35 miles. The furthest I've ever moved goods when helping someone move house is 33 miles, totally in line with the average. But, let's get to the nitty gritty of out of date ignorance. To drive a fully loaded van on a hilly race track and extrapolate the real world range after four miles is flawed to say the least. What Plato and friend forget is that the extra weight may use more power from the battery going up hill but it also puts more power back into the battery going down hill. You'll find in normal use, if you know how to drive an EV properly, you'll get the rated distance. If you drive it just like a petrol van then you won't. Because, newsflash, IT'S NOT PETROL AND IT DOESN'T HAVE AN ENGINE. When I drive my Nissan Leaf to my sister's house it's mostly on an upward gradient. It takes 45 miles of range to drive 33 miles. But, coming back the other way takes 22 miles of range. The total distance driven is 66 miles and the total range used is 67 miles. If I extrapolated the car's range from just the journey there it would be 66 miles when fully charged. In fact it's at least 85 miles. No, these vans aren't the king of range. But, there are loads of vans available and loads more coming. Nissan e-NV200s are all over London in all sorts of configurations and for all sorts of companies. They are doing multiple short journeys across the city just as their ICE counterparts do. Cleevely EVs do EV maintenance up and down the country in an e-NV200 and travel over 1000 miles a week all over the Midlands, the North and Scotland. There are bigger vans, vans with longer range and vans with more power. You choose those which suit your purpose. Complaining that the vans reviewed here don't do what they were never designed for is absolute idiocy. Do people complain about petrol Ford Transits not being able to carry a container 50 miles? No they don't because it was never intended for that purpose. Get real people!

Vans are often bought to do small runs as well with the occasional long run. So having something with a pathetic range like these pointless vehicles is going to significantly narrow the amount of people willing to buy one. Comparing it to a Veyron makes you stupid, not them. Thats a test track designed to seek out flaws in newly made cars, its not a race track. I’m not sure you could be any more wrong in your comment. As usual, EV’s aren’t the problem, its the way the power is stored. Batteries as a way of storing energy, are absolutely crap. For small companies doing very small journeys not very often, they make sense. Not many companies are like that though
@trevorberridge6079
@trevorberridge6079 2 жыл бұрын
@@PUNKF001 Let me explain how both wrong and ignorant you are point by point (I don't expect you to read any further as you are clearly a fact free zone): 1) The average daily driving distance of vans is 35 miles. The range is not an issue. 2) I didn't compare the Veyron to an electric van because that would make me absolutely as stupid as someone who apparently understands English but couldn't understand what I ACTUALLY wrote. I was comparing the difference in ATTITUDES regarding RANGE between a million pound gas guzzling petrol monster and an EV van that can go further in the right conditions. 3) Yes it's a test track but they race cars around it on various car programs. In any case as either a race track or a test track it definitely comes under the category of NOT A REAL ROAD IN REAL CONDITIONS. Someone stupid wouldn't know that. 4) Funny how you think batteries are a crap way of storing energy when the WHOLE MODERN WORLD is run on battery operated devices. Welcome to the 21st Century. I hope you enjoy your visit. Please return to the dark ages if progress is too much for you to handle. Please don't use toothbrushes, laptops, home phones, smartphones, radio controlled toys, car keys with smart fobs, all entry fobs, clocks, watches.... you get the picture. Probably not actually. Batteries haven't made sense to you yet after more than 2000 years since their first appearance. 5) "For small companies doing very small journeys" they may buy these vans. For large companies doing long journeys they will buy DIFFERENT vans. You buy the vehicle that suits the use. But, if someone out there with a courier company has a brain the size of a rotted walnut they might decide to buy an expensive EV Van that can hold three Euro pallets and drive 200 miles on a charge when they only ever deliver potted plants to within a five mile radius. But, I think most people are smart enough to avoid such idiocy. Most people. I'm just saying, don't start a courier company. Your bank manager and your financial advisor will have heart attacks on a daily basis. Lastly, if you're going to call someone stupid on social media don't follow up by proving how clueless and moronic you are with every word you write. Stupid is as Stupid does. And you do.
