Today we discuss some new lore on Shaw Han! Most players aren’t a big fan of Shaw, and Bungie plays into that in this seasons new lore card. We also learn where he got his armor. Personally I don’t hate Shaw and he could be involved in some epic stories in the future, but for now he handles the integration of new lights for the Vanguard and again is fireteamless

For a little while, I had a silly little headcanon that Shan Han was just a "dead" Ahamkara possessing the body of a guardian. I just thought it would be funny to explain how uncannily generic he is as an Ahamkara trying its best to seem human lol. Obviously, it's not accurate, but funny.

Honestly, bungie should have brought back shiro-4 for this role. He’s was an already established character, already stationed in the cosmodrome, and it would have been a nice way to bring the character back.

so what this tells me is he wished for friends like trust worthy friends but like all wishes paid the price and lost both in a matter of moments, thats genuinely really sad when u think about it

He's that blueberry in trials that keeps getting sniped in the same lane every round.

What I'm hearing is he made a wish to an Ahamkara. No questions about it, no bad luck. Remember, Ahamkaras freely twist your wishes if you're not precise in your wording. If you don't have the tools like Mara Sov does. Who's to say the cruel twist it chose to make was giving him the fireteam of his dreams, but dooming him to lose them.

I do feel some pity for him despite we all collectively clown on him for years. Also, it kinda makes sense that he feels like a new light since he is practically the first guardian we, as new lights, meet in the game. So I guess my new headcannon for Shaw is that he's the de facto 'leader' of the new lights.

As a newbie, Shaw Han gave me the energy of a character that was designed to apeal to a young kid getting into star wars. Callow, eager and kinda fun in a dorky way. I think of him in the same way I think there's a Star Wars character called Commander Cody: something a little silly but I can't hate him.

I remember there being a bit of lore showing some of Shaw's prowess, I think it was in Season of the Chosen or Risen, he essentially used his Golden Gun to buff a bunch of allies

I like to think of Shaw as being just like a private first class who stumbles upon a civilian who has somehow managed to survive through what would normally be an extremely deadly situation to any one thats not a top tier like Zavala, Shaxx, Saint, Ikora, Cayde, Osiris, etc. He''s not meant to be a crazy badass or a legendary hero. He represents our beginnings, our failures, our setbacks, us.

Remember that you can use the wishing wall in Last Wish to teleport to a chest that can give you raid loot. So you know only give him the one piece of raid armor and he isn’t an amazing guardian and it becomes clear he did the thing almost all solos do and got some free raid loot.

Somehow he got the Radiant verb during Beyond Light, so that's something...Supposedly when he pops Golden Gun(Because all story hunters use Solar, for some reason) it empowers everyone around him.

I mean, Ahamkara exotics reference the fact that ahamkara bones are a commodity, usually traded in back-alley deals, which honestly make a lot of sense; there is a symbiosis to that nature of deal-making involved. I wouldn't fault him for doing the thing that, in lore, every guardian except a few named ones and the PC has done. On top of this; i don't think his wish was solely about being safe, because... he isn't. The Hive are of the most dangerous of active threats guardians face, and the eliksni are no slouches. There is many stories of dangerous eliksni in the past, and the past two hunter vanguards have been killed by eliksni or eliksni-born creatures. We know from this seasons the particular point to a Ahamkara wish is the decrepency between wish granted and its result, and that dependency exists pretty hard. He got his fire-team, and he found his gig, but neither lasted, and both were torn apart in the same breath. We can kinda use the lore of other wishes to see that some ahamkara play with the duration of wish granted, or how some people get exactly what they want only to have it taken away. For what its worth, he's no slouch. There's a couple of loretabs where he shows off impressive feats of light manipulation and leadership qualities in the face of massive dangers after this low-point, namely his use of golden gun and his rallying call towards new lights after WQ dropped. He's not a big fish, but he doesn't present himself as that. He's not like every 3rd guardian that thinks themselves a god slayer for killing what amounts to a cult leader with magic spells, but tripss into the same traps and pits falls every other guardian walks into. He's humble, acknowledges their faults, and at some level understands the importance of a fireteam to a guardian. Which to be quite honest, would get him through a run of LW. Hell, i'd even believe he did riven without the cheese, and actually participated in mechanics.

With regards to your comment in the video about him leaving us behind (I saw the flavor text). In this regard, he left us behind to *protect* us. We were a New Light. He wanted to keep us safe from the big bad Hive Wizard. When he was left behind on Europa, it sounds like people left him for dead. Sure in both cases it *can* qualify as "leaving someone behind", but the *context* and *reasoning* is entirely different... gives new meaning to the action itself. I don't know... I only joined Destiny 2 just before Seraph launched so... I don't have a lot of knowledge from older Destiny... maybe that's why I don't mind Shaw Han as much. I felt like he was a nice intro character. He was trying to keep us, a New Light, safe, especially after having just lost his fireteam. He just didn't want to lose anyone else. Learning that he's had bad experiences with stuff in the past... ouch. Gotta hurt when you lose the one group of people you were finally able to trust. Plus, buying armor? Do that all the time. Not as often with exotics but still... not too far fetched? I wouldn't say it makes him bad but, he's certainly not as powerful as our overpowered a$$es given the lore implications. I don't know... I understand why people kinda clown on him but it also feels kinda mean is all...

I don’t think it is that he is the worst, just that he is unfortunate, can’t really stop a Pyramid from consuming Io, and those Guardians that left him were likely jerks. And with the Ahamkara armor piece it is a monkeys paw, it takes what it gives. But he does make the best with what he’s got, and did give decent fights in other Lore.

People judge Shaw bc he's not even close than our guardian... Forgetting that, if power was a salary, we are like the Elon Musk of power level, while Shaw is just the tipical guy who works 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch. I think he's not bad, just sheer bad luck he had, and the steady gig he wanted is welcoming new lights and keeping the Cosmodrome relatively clear for them.

Let’s be real for a minute. He’s got potential to be an amazing character. I’d love to see a redemption arc from him where he does some really cool shit to show us who he really is.

It'd be hilarious if in what ever raid we kill the witness in the final shape; in a cut scene at the end, the witness gets a second wind, knocks us back, and then this guy comes in and straight up solos him. 😂😅

I got the full Great Hunt armor set from the secret chest at the Shuro Chi wish wall teleport/checkpoint before I even attempted the raid even once. You don't have to do the raid to get any of the Last Wish armor or weapons, except One Thousand Voices, unlike other raids where the secret chests only give you raid gear you've already gotten before for that raid. That bit is weird.

Nothing about his story sounds like he's a bad guardian. I've been abandoned by so many random fireteams just trying to rush through the game, and I'm well above average.

I always thought that Dungeons, Raids, and Strikes had cleanup crews after the VIP lore entry in Season of Arrivals, and it was confirmed in Ghosts of the Deep. Maybe he was one of the teams to the DC after us and that’s how he got the legs given the repeating curse the location has.

There is one chest you can get last wish armor solo just by putting in the right code on the thingy and do some parkour. I go there every week as a solo blueberry. So it may not be intentional but in my mind it fits even more for his character.

As a hunter, i hate him because he gets to have his hood down with a basic ass helmet.

He seems like a hero in the beginning when you just started then as you get better you realized how bad he is.

Shaw’s there to create an aspiration in new lights to be better. His biggest play was getting an exotic for glimmer, and that’s where his wins end.

If you ever got an exotic from Xur you aren't allowed to judge Shaw. Also he had some friends bring him into that one chest under the bridge in the Last Wish Raid. He hasn't really done the raid, but was shown how to cheese a raid chest.

I honestly don't mind how generic and lame Shaw Han is. The only other guardian NPCs in the game are faction leaders or powerful badasses. Shaw is just a regular guardian doing his job, well or not. I wish there were more characters like that, even if they only show up in a single quest or as set dressing. Makes the world feel more alive.

Zavalas armor is actually the Archons Forge Titan set from Rise of Iron (Minus the Massive left Pauldron).

I remember restarting my playthrough on PlayStation and wishing I could be like the hive. Never liked anyone after what happened to Cayde-6. Both Shaw and Crowe will always be on my hunt list 😂

This may explain why he wasnt at the Final Shape fight. His wish made him to be conveniently forgotten in such a dangerous mission.

He got recruited to go through the last wish but died at the first encounter, didnt get rezzed cuz he was terrible, aurt rezzed after the encounter and than got booted lol. The boots were his encounter chest drop lol

By the time Oi was taken the dreaming city had already been raided by the guardians and reven was dead. It’s very possible that Han just scavenged some of the loot we left behind or bought it on a second hand market

Shaw is just like me, I only got to Last Wish to farm Kali with random people of LFG, but never make it completely.

I’ve got a really weird hunch that the Vanguard doesn’t even know that Shahan exists other than the fact that he’s a regular at the patrol board. I’ve heard Zevala mention him by name. But even if you’re a regular at a coffee shop they’ll know your name after 100 times being there in a row… Maybe zevala just assumes he’s helping people lol

Not to steal what little benefit of praise you granted him but I've gone into the Last Wish raid just to snag the easy solo chests and I have only received those boots.

I wish there was a vet version of the new light quest where shaw acts like an arrogant character who looses his team due to his hubris whilst trying to impress the guardian. I feel there would be more character development for him it would also be good for returning players as it would show that even guardians (not just saint-14 during corridors in time) look up to us and wanna be like that, you know just give the player a sense of gratification for what they’ve done in before there hiatus from the game. Like you could make it that he doesn’t even take patrol mission to the cosmo seriously so it would cause him to be brash, maybe have him get cut off from his fireteam because he go to explore only to get caught in a hive trap that we save him from. The deaths of his team could also play out similar to how the new light base version does, instead though he scolds his fireteam for dying in what he assumes is an easy low level area. And we need to tell him off for not taking his guardian duty seriously to which he would show off to us and brag about what he has done (most likely very little like bragging about an expedition in the last wish raid that he got carried in [but in his delusions of grandeur he actually was “useful”] it would explain where he got his boots from for players and show that he didn’t really “earn” them). Just some food for thought.

I tried Shaw Han cosplaying in D2, his cloak and shaders seem unique, I have found similar cloaks, but none that are hoodless

So shaws lore is that he is literally just a new light blueberry. My guess is he got the raid legs from a time he was carried through the raid and only got the legs as a drop

THe most interesting thing for me that this reveals is that his fireteam was just a bunch of randos. THe timeing of the words shows that this takes place right between the end of Arrivals and before Beyond Light, that he landed on Europa briefly and had a short run in with House Salvation and Stasis surprised he didn't warn the Vanguard about it and that the player wasn't the first Guardian to journey to Europa. It's not long till he went to the COsmodrome, lost his team, then met a newly ressurected Guardian.

So what I’m hearing is that new lights were possibly “wished into being”

So the awoken were made some time after the collapse. When did they return? Because it shows Zavala at the city when it was starting out. I just don’t understand awoken guardians because I have never heard how they became it because they all started in the cosmodrome what worthy in doing there that went and killed them all?

I mean it’s easy to figure out that Shaw Han and his fireteam are and we’re terribly unskilled from the get-go as almost all of them got final deathed by a strike boss
