Part 3: • Evander Holyfield on L...
--------
Evander Holyfield shared a unique perspective about his childhood boxing journey. At age 12, Holyfield fought a white opponent named Cecil, assuming he would be an easy win. To his surprise, Cecil beat him. Holyfield later admitted to trying to avoid fighting him again, revealing that he had cried after losing. However, his mother inspired him to keep going, encouraging him not to quit. Even when he lost again to Cecil, he didn't give up. He eventually won against Cecil at the Junior Olympics and continued his successful boxing career to become the Southeastern regional champion by the age of 15. Holyfield spoke of his growth spurt, increasing from 5’8” and 147 pounds post-high school to a peak of 6’2” inch with a weight of 171 pounds. He also talked about his childhood experience with boxing Mike Tyson and how his mom's resilience lessons helped him become a successful boxing star.

The thing with Hollyfield is he had a different kind of will. You weren't going to beat him point fighting. You had to really fight him. I know he is a man of faith and explaining what his mom instilled in him, I understand why he fought like that. In his first fight with Riddick Bowe in the 10th round, Riddick hit him with a probably a 30-punch combo (no lie) that would have likely floored 99 percent of Heavyweights; but he stayed on his feet. Most fighters would have been content with just holding to get out of the round, but he closed the round taking the fight to Bowe. Riddick was amazing too and beat him, but he set the tone on how he fought. And in second fight he even fought after the bell in the fourth to show that tone; and he reclaimed his title. He's one of the best fighters of all time.

Im from cali and one thing i always respected about southern dudes is their resilience, who can be respectful but turn it up when they need to. Yeah they have their ignorant people like most regions. But the old south in the 90s and down they were more about unity and giving you respect if you give it back. Eastcoast, midwest, and west coast had their unity but we can also come off mean from outsiders but its alot deepers than just being mean but being surrounded by a lot of shady people.

This is true. I'm from the east side of Pennsylvania, not far from Philly, and that east coast mentality is kinda shitty. People are way too blunt and straightforward and it comes off as rude, especially to people who aren't from there. I stopped in Atlanta on my way to Miami, and that southern hospitality is very real. Same thing when I lived in south Florida. Much different attitude than NY or Philly.

The Midwest was never known for being mean😂 that’s the nicest region in the country. Followed by the West Coast. Don’t confuse what was going in South Central for the rest of the West Coast. That was white suburbia America. The South was the third nicest followed by the East Coast. Southern hated sissies from the west coast and East Coast Wops. There’s a reason the mafia had zero pull in the South. They were being murdered by BOTH Southern Blacks & whites. They were able to expand in the west coast and Midwest tho. There was way too much hostility in the South. It was a “don’t start nothing” Culture.

That’s how you get better. By your losses you learn. You don’t learn as much by your victories. I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old and I was running through my age bracket in tournaments. My tennis coach started putting me in the 10-12 years olds when I was 8 years old and I was losing the majority of my matches and I was pissed. I couldn’t understand why I was losing and I hated my coach at the time. I would come home and cry about losing. Then I started training with teenagers who at first were kicking my ass. But when I looked back on it he did the right thing for me. I ended up getting a athletic and academic scholarship to the University of Arizona because of that I think. When I was in high school I was playing against men who were in their early twenties and I would loose a few matches but I won more than I lost. You have to be challenged by people who are older and wiser than you in order to get better. At least that’s my experience

The ones closer to the heavy weight class may end up becoming heavy weights. I wish david tua and mike tyson would of fought. Holyfield didnt get his size until later in his career but he was always dangerous no matter who he fought

I respect Lennox Lewis for saying he didn't fight a prime Mike Tyson but he had to beat him to establish his resume. He knew deep down a "prime" Iron Mike was a different breed. Evender Holyfied on the other hand talks like he beat a "prime" Iron Mike after beating James Buster Douglas. I just think it's not fair to pretend like the man didn't lose all those years behind bars.

I honestly dont know. Holyfield was never no punk none of his career and lennox lewis was always a beast and a lot of fighter avoided him. Look what lennox did to david tua? David tua was the closest thing to mike tyson, and mike and david dua have the same height and build but tua has bigger fist and ill even say a better chin, and of course mike also had a chin. As far as power david tua and mike were both dangerous. David tua was another avoided fighter who never been knocked out. Mike tyson is a legend but that doesnt mean he was 100% without doubt better than any fighter in the era. You guys need to take a look a lennox lewis and david tua records and accolades, bother those fighters were avoided by many, and they didnt have the best promotional team behind them. Mike had some tough fight but don king was also a match king. Promoters dont want to see their prize fighter lose because they lose money. There is too many variables to assume from just mike record and wins that he was the best because in boxing promotions and a lot of other stuff goes on behind closed doors. Like for instants terrance crawford would of been a bigger fighter if he started his career under mayweather. Tank davis is a star and he hold no belts and is 28 years old but just because he has skill, "which you dont need a lot of, if u have the right team" they can make you look bigger than ur accolades

I like tyson but im just saying from the promoters, bets being placed.etc there is a lot to lose when you have a prize fighter. Im not saying tyson wasnt capable of still being a champ, but he didnt fight the best even at that time. Tell me tyson tyson best fight against notable opponents. When i say notable people are still talking about them as being a beast in america? Old fighter past their prime dont count

You just don't see it on television and not all boxers are overtly fucked like Muhammad Ali. Let’s be real here… If they fought when Tyson loved boxing and had Kevin Rooney in his corner that would’ve been a totally different fight. Tyson after prison was too predictable and relied on one punch and intimidation. Before prison Tyson was far more disciplined, used combinations and had impeccable defense. After prison he became easier to hit and tired quicker because he didn’t train as intensely as he did before. Not saying that Holyfield would’ve 100% lost against that Tyson, but it would’ve been a far different fight.

@BigMike_RTTV
@BigMike_RTTV 7 ай бұрын
@@rafiqwashington9126What excuses? I’m simply stating the obvious… Anyone with a brain can clearly see that Mike was a different fighter post prison. 3 1/2 years would do that to anyone. Secondly, Mike beat those that were around at the time… Is that his fault that there were no Sonny Listons or Muhammad Ali around when he was fighting? You can try to discredit him all you want, but he is STILL the youngest HW champion in the history of the sport and became undisputed champion during his run. Not to mention the last great exciting HW the world has seen. And I don’t care what you say, the guys he lost to would NOT have beaten him that easily if he didn’t lose focus. The only person to beat Mike Tyson was Mike Tyson himself. So unless you could do better than he did you should keep your mouth closed. He’s STILL one of the greats no matter your opinion.
