wow, I'm impressed. that's the mother of midi setups...he must have about 30 sound modules linked to volume pedals via programmable/present tone banks routed via reverb and delays then into a mix desk....or a digitized version fun by a mac/ midi controller. he has every sound playing at once but fades them in or out via pedals...now that's clever....and remembering each pedal for each sound module...that's also clever....bit like watching an organist in church...what a great use of technology and really understanding your 'kit'. and then having the talent and taste to create something wonderful with it all.....what a guy.

If anyone had told me you could play an entire orchestra concert on two keyboards and a synthesizer, I never would have believed it. I had always thought vangelis layered and composed over dubs that took days or even weeks. Or months even. I am deeply awe-struck.
@PedroLucas-hk3vo9 жыл бұрын
akasha clanclan indeed. When i first heard about Vangelis, around 1984, I also thought it was impossible for a single man, without knowledge of music notation, to actually compose. Our Man is ingenious, he can imagine sounds, instruments, he can play entire pieces by himself and still feel symphonic-like.
@evado688 жыл бұрын
Really incredible if this was all played live by one man, without pre-mixing. The sounds, the frequency spectrum and the timing seem all perfect.
@dvamateur4 жыл бұрын
Vsngelis always said he likes to play, not "program", or "produce", or "write". So many proud terms that Vangelis doesn't use. He likes to play. And music is a performance art. But since we consider DJ's musicians these days, we've fallen too low culturally to appreciate the performance itself. Most musicians prize themselves sayng "I wrote", "I produced", "I programmed". Rarely anyone works on techniques and performance these days. Vangelis had very good technique, and excellent performance skills. Although to play comfortably in such setup, took years of not decades. Just like it takes years or decades to play organ pedals. Vangleli is not a follower though, he's a leader. That's what originality is about. He is himself. He just doesn't follow trends.
@wilhelmorangenbaum1633 жыл бұрын
@@dvamateur What is wrong whit saying "I wrote"? Practically all the body of orchestral music (the music he is imitating here) is written down, because it has to, because large heterogeneous ensembles can only function this way. Do you think that is possible replicate, let's say, a symphonic poem by Strauss or a symphony by Mahler only having one person? The Orchestra still is an incomparable medium, one that you only can exploit it's full potential if you know how to write for it. Composers have been writting down their music for centuries and there's nothing wrong with that.
@Dave15072 жыл бұрын
@@wilhelmorangenbaum163 i'd say after watching this video, yes, it is possible, because that's exactly what he does in this video. He plays an entire orchestra, and he is indeed 'just' one man.

And even changing music instrument sounds by switching knobs in that modules on the fly.. Incredible to be able to perform such orchestral complex and arranged sound by one person in this way...

I so look forward to have time soon to be a musician\channel once again. Thank you, Vangelis, for remaining steadfast and proving that nothing is impossible. Thank you also for taking the time to speak with me on the phone around '80 while you were working at Nemo Studios. Our conversation provided enough inspiration to endure at least half a lifetime, and helped me greatly along my journey. :-)

Blade Runner is Ridley&Vangelis. They dance together to make the movie. Unfortunately Ridley will not direct but only produce. I really want Vangelis to be the composer, but still without Ridley I don't know if it is Blade Runner. I don't know the new guy that probably Ridley has chosen, and I guess he will give directions as the producer. But combining Ridley&Vangelis would be a more certain bet.
@TheBent1397 жыл бұрын
It has been announced that Vangelis will not be involved in the Blade Runner sequel. The chosen composer is to be Johann Johannsson. Of course Ridley Scott is not producing either. The producer Dennis Villanueve has worked with Johannsson on 3 previous projects. The originals are never duplicated , apparently Johannsson has tremendous respect for Vangelis but I understand the disappointment and why some would steer clear of this project. Who knows? I have always believed it is foolish to criticize that which you have not yet heard or observed.
@dafyddil6 жыл бұрын
The composer ended up being Hans Zimmer, whose hands are in too many film scores in my opinion, but who always seems to do a very good job, even if his fingerprints are always all over the music. I think he did a good job maintaining a Vangelis vibe -- at least as it might sound thrown into the future. There were a couple really beautiful references to the original score.
