Wow I'm surprised on how easily the bearings went in. Was super easy. Same with replacing the motor, belt, and pulley. Thank you guys for making it easier on the rest of us. Greatly appreciated

Thanks for posting this - it gives me confidence that I can take care of my two coolers today myself. Both are 7 years old, and one started making a horrible knocking sound last weekend. I figure if one went, the other's going to go soon. It's supposed to be really hot this weekend, so I really need to 'get 'er done', but they're side mounts (through the wall instead of a window) and not at ground level, so I'll be perched on a ladder doing this. Wish me luck!

I wanted to thank you for making this video, I didn't realize the large pulley had a bolt that holds it on the shaft, that was a big help for me. On my unit, which is a Champion, the squirrel cage is starting to rust, as is the outer legs of the cage. I wonder how hard it is to remove the cage. I would like to have it sandblasted and painted. The manufacturers of these units should use more stainless steel parts and fasteners. They take a lot of maintenance, but when it works, it works great.

Thanks for vid. Blew a bearing on my Mastercool II series. $20 for new bearings and a belt. Back and running fine. It's a 20 year old unit. First time replacing. Worth the $20 compared to AC costs in Mesa AZ. I too thought it was going to be a pain in the ass to fix, but not really. Took about 90 minutes of my time, but actually quite easy. Thanks again.

Thank you for the great video. I have one suggestion that made this job far easier for me. I did the non pulley bearing first, leaving the whole cage assembly in place and then went on the other side and did the large pulley side bearing. I had a bit of difficulty as someone before me had over-tightened the pulley bolt raising a ridge around where the set screw met the shaft. I used the motor pulley puller tool I had and it worked fine to pull off the pulley. I only had to use an old socket from a socket wrench that fit inside the hollow fan shaft, with three pennies glued overnight to give purchase to the center bolt of the gear puller. (fill up the hollow in the socket) I glued them on the socket end with E6000 glue overnight, Worked like a charm and pulled off the pulley easily. I just had to pull off the spacer with a flat screwdriver behind it on the shaft and that worked well also. It sounds more complicated and time consuming than it actually was. :-) Again thanks for the video.

That’s cool. 4 hours of work and you were filming. . . Good job. I was looking for a video that shows what to do when the project does not go smooth. You were fortunate, let me put it that way. I’m working on a swamped after “the other guy(s)” and I’m learning the i don’t know as much as I thought I did. It was weird to me that I could have a Brand New motor with a Brand New motor pulley, brand new belt, and a brand new fan pulley and I’m still getting a major wobble…. I’ve worked on at least 10 swamp coolers over the past 10 to 12 years and I’ve never had to change the bearings until now… thanks again though buddy.

Great video. I added synthetic oil to the bearings but I noticed the one opposite the big poly has been leaking. Today, it has been making that rubbing noise and I’m pretty sure it’s that bearing. The bearing on the poly side where the belt is is dry and is holding oil. So I think the one that is constantly making noise now is the one without the belt pulling in the way which should be an easy one. I never thought to measure the shaft whether it’s three-quarter inch or 1 inch. I guess I will measure that before I go buy a spider bearing. My swamp cooler is running now but I can hear it making the constant rubbing noise and I know the bearing will probably freeze if I keep running it but we’re in the middle of a heat wave right now in Los Angeles. Tomorrow morning I will go up on the roof and measure that shaft and by a spider bearing. I will donate some money to you on the first of the month when I get my pension check in Social Security. Thanks for the informative video I know I can handle that job.

I swapped belt this morning as it was chewed up and it had a chirp before but 3 hours later with a new belt it's turned to a 747 sound so I'll be doing this job tomorrow at 7am. Lol. Great vid slow clear directions easy to watch without getting dizzy and listen to without a hearing aid or blowing out eardrums well made except for actual Replacement of the Bushings! And WD-30? Lol really no one says that that's like saying I have a Chevy 340 V8 or I just shot my 1911 Colt 35 Auto literally a household brand name for decades and you couldn't call it by name how sir did you film and record without walking off side of roof

i am working on a old cooler got it working i guess the people that used to live here said it dont work but i got it working all i have to do know is replace a baring on left side and hiiok up the water pump and walla

I do not have a swamp cooler, but old my Lennox furnace blower is very similar. I had no idea that Home Depot sold those bearing and supports. Probably not in my area of the country. I highly recommend a lubricant known as Motor Kote. This product comes in a spray can, and far superior to the WD stuff, although everything has a use. Cheers

I am having a similar bearing problem with a Swamp cooler I am repairing for a neighbor.The bearings have not been lubricated properly, if at all, by who ever was servicing the Unit before the home owner asked me to look at it for her. The inner race on the blower shaft has roasted. And is stuck tight. this particular model has one bar, which runs across the open sides of the Squirrel cage housing on Ea side. And the bearings bolt to it. the bad bearing in on the open end of the pulley. So I will try to cut it to remove it

Here's a tip: Don't get oil in your water, it will find it's way to the pads and reduce efficiency.

Our Master Cool evaporative/swamp cooler makes a LOUD beep like a UPS truck when it turns on or shuts off. Makes the dogs bark and we have no idea how to stop the noise.

Would be nice if you didn't skip through the process of removing the pully from the shaft. This is not always a simple task. Parts rust and basically get frozen to the shaft, making it difficult to remove. I've repairs dozens of units, and you make appear simple when there are often complications involved. Some folks tighten the pully bolts and other too tight, and after years of use the buildup of rust complicates things. Just saying.

What happened at 7:51? The bearing is on the end, then it jumps to being flush to the back, how do you slide it back? My new ones won't go on, they are definitely the same size as the old ones but get stuck on the ends of the shaft. I have sanded, and oiled and they won't go on, help!

I can't figure out what's going wrong with my cooler ? My cooler keeps going off and on about every 20 minutes by itself. I the assumed the motor was getting too hot, so I've replaced my blower motor 3 times and kept swamping the 3 of them in and out, replaced the bearings, adjusted the belt many times from tight to so lose it was coming off the pully, replaced the 2 speed wall switch, and the power cord to the blower motor. The motor still keeps repeatedly shutting down after about 20 minutes then coming back on. The blowed shaft seems finest since there blower spins pretty much freely from the what I came tell. I'm going to melt this weekend. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
