@@chrisc1866 Are you sure you have polarized glasses? If you turn them (a' la clock hands) while looking through them, does the screen get darker? If so, then you are lucky enough that your polarization is on the same axis as the display. LCDs depend on polarization to work. I just went from 50 years of clip ons, etc to prescription sunglasses, and specified non polarized. I see no ill effects from lack of polarization, and now can read screens and displays with no issues.

@@The_DuMont_Network I have a screen protector with a matt surface that removes the rainbow effect. Maybe I can just get the same protector and cut it to fit.

I love all of the features some of the bigger displays have but I just can't get passed the size.

Depending on the manufacturer of the screen, you have a 50/50 chance. A screen meant for a cell phone is usually polarized such that it can be seen with sunglasses in normal orientation. FYI, polarization is similar to taking two pieces of a picket fence. Iine them up and you can see through it. Turn one 90 degrees and your vision is limited at least 90 percent. The science is that glare is usually polarized (naturally) 90 degrees from the incident light. Thus polarization diminishes glare.

A true heads up display would be the cherry on the top. I had one on my '02 Buick LeSabre and miss it ike crazy. Only issue was that you had to have a special windshield which had a patch on it for the display. Took 7 weeks to get a replacement. But HU displays nowadays are simple to manufacture and should be standard equipment.

I stopped wearing polarized sunglasses a long time when I couldn't see screens in other cars. But honestly, sunglasses are so much better now that polarized lenses aren't even needed anymore.

I own the Model x and model 3. There is a center console on the model x for a reason. It's easier to see the road and important info at the same time without much glancing in that location than the center display.

@@thatdude5328 They just money saving on the model 3. Model S and X have behind the wheel display and it's for the better.

No, quite the opposite actually. Especially this last update it’s so so close to being ready for prime time so to speak. The radar added just ridiculous amounts of “clutter” for the ai to process and was actually less precise then vision only. I worked with radars in the Air Force and they aren’t like what you see in the movies where it’s a clear screen with some dots with what the radar sees. It’s more like looking at snow on a television and having to figure out which of them billions of dots are doing what and which aren’t even anything at all. Judging distances is much easier and just as accurate with the cameras and that’s all the radars pretty much did anyway. I noticed no difference at all when the update disabled them and nothing but improvements since. Any difference is likely just quirks in the software and don’t have anything to do with the radars at all. It’s getting close but it still isn’t perfect.

@@tylermills79 thanks for the answer Ronald. I have exactly zero knowledge about radar so I cannot judge in good way. It is just pure my feeling. But I read Tesla is putting back the radar in 2023.

@@RibasFilms I haven’t heard anything about the radar’s coming back I do know starting in 2023 they are removing the ultrasonic sensors as well and are going to do their job (judging objects that are close to the car) with the cameras as well. They are rumored to be adding more cameras to the cars as well with two more in each headlight in the model 3 and will retrofit the older cars. They are also coming out with a more advanced fsd ai computer the 4.0 and will retro fit older cars that paid for fsd with that as too.

Yea was thinking the same about blind spot views. That would be handy. The data that are on the screen....only difference is looking down at 4 o'clock vs 6 o'clock. 🤷‍♀️ Or data that I don't care about when driving.

Actually there is not really a standardized way of abbreviations for units in the US (think about "linear yards" LOL). In Europe there is. There is an ISO approach. Still bothers me every day in my M3P to see the speed in KM/H where it should be km/h !!

Most likely. I am close to 100,000 miles on my car so it's no longer a concern. If you're still under warranty, you would just need to disconnect the screen from the computer.

I totally agree with you. The minimalistic look is one of the things that drew me to the car. I don't even miss an instrument cluster anymore. I've thought about it many times and always come back to passing on it. I definitely love the honest reviews FTG gives us.

This and the "factory look" display solve several issues, especially for us old farts who have difficulty with the horseshit GUI design in the main screen, especially in daylight. Fonts too small, and what imbecile designed a gray font on a white background? Tesla has ignored this for years. I have the in dash display which really helps. This one looks simpler to install and would do the trick for me.

@@FrugalTeslaGuy also if you drive on roads in winter conditions polarised glasses could prevent you from seeing ice on the road due to polarisation delete the reflection ice/wet surface create
