I saw this right after learning about rubber guard and got pretty stoked on the idea of being able to blast reps whenever my heart desired. I just got done building mine as done in the video only difference for me was I duck taped 6” half slices on the knee caps and they worked pretty awesome. Very impressed with the arms especially, that Pex pipe is the bees knees

The 23.5mm clamps are the proper size. I'm using what I believe are called ear pinch clamps--used in automotive. Whatever they are called, they look identical to the pex clamps. Hopefully this helps someone.

Amazing work! This is the cleanest design I've seen so far. Im currently acquiring parts to build this. One question: since they cant be extended flat, how do the rigid arms behave for arm bars and/or transitions in top control where you want to flatten/straighten out the arms (eg transition to north-south)? Im wondering whether to leave them "boneless" to be able do these kinds of drills. Looks great for kesa gatame though!
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj2
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj2 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. The arms can be extended flat, you just have to be intentional with your movement to flatten them. The arm pins and transitions are a bit more realistic, because the arms are always trying to block your movement, and you must intentionally pin or bypass them to move from side to side. A traditional fill will also be effective for you though, so it will all work well, as long as you are using the dummy regularly.

It will go to turtle, just not very tightly. You can always play around with the joint material, or leave it out altogether. It's the classic dilemma between making the joints too tight to get in some positions, and too loose so its not giving resistance.

We use the dummies that go up to 60 lbs. I have not seen the dummies that claim they go up to 125 lbs, but I think that's probably either a typographical error, or wishful thinking. How does it work for you in a kneeling position like if you wanted to do work from guard bottom? Did you put any stuffing into the hand of the dummy at all?
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj2
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj2 4 жыл бұрын
From the bottom it works for smaller micro transition drills (gi chokes, Kimura, etc... ) but... it is not great for macro transition drills like escapes because it only weighs 40-45lbs. If I work it from the top, I can do almost all of the large movements I would do on a human partner. I did not put any stuffing in the hand, it is only pex and a pool noodle. This is different from the original dummy, and I like it better. It feels more like a wrist. Stay tuned, I am going to make a grappling dummy purely for working my bottom game. @@peterklock9879 It would be a challenge to get it heavier if you use the skeleton wrapped with pool noodles.. An option would be to only use the pex skeleton without the noodles, and fill everything with shredded cloth. Another option would be to tightly wrap old towels around the pex instead of the pool noodles. That will probably get you to around 90 lbs or so. I'm happy with the current weight, but depending on how you use the dummy, a heavier dummy might be more useful for you. Let me know what you end up doing, and how it works out.
